This might be very simple but it is driving me nuts! Has anyone had the problem of the Sony folder popping up every time you turn on your computer?? This is after UX software installation. I have already looked in the startup folder to see if this was a misplaced shortcut, but have not found the cause. Any ideas?
Greatly appreciated!

I thought it was just me and I haven't had a chance to investigate why it is happening.

No problems with that here. It may be you have a defective OS.

I'm using MacOS X and there are no annoying pop ups when I have to reboot my computer (which is only about every other month, and just for fun).

:p

No problem here. Installed with IntelliSync to Outlook. I have Sony TR1A notebook with Win XP running.

I also am having the same problem. I thought I noticed it after updating my MS drive to work with MS PRO cards but if it is happening to others it must be since I installed the UX50 software. If anone figures out how to stop the folder opening on startup please post it here.

the folder i have that pops up contains data export and image converter sub-folders. i think these programs are causing the pop-up folder and i HATE it!

Rename the folder. Doesn't seem to hurt anything.

Sure does stop it. I searched all through the registry trying to find where the damn thing was coming from, finally just renamed the folder out of desperation. Did the trick and haven't seen it since.

Cheers!

Rename the folder it's opening. On my laptop I think it was "c:\program files\sony". Renamed to "c:\program files\sonyxxx"; if I don't miss it after a month or so I'll just delete it!

Cheers!

Now WHY on EARTH would someone want to come here and start a flame war about which platform is better????

OH! Figures it's a Mac person! Ever notice how PC users never START these things? I wonder why that is...

And I'll tell you what, if I had as much money as Bill Gates, I don't think some pissant Mac user's opinion of me would even register.

Sheesh!

I haven't noticed any ill effects. I you run into a problem just change the name back to the original name; just don't delete anything until you're sure it's OK...

YMMV!

I ran msconfig on my Win XP machine and discovered there was a new entry for a sony configtool.exe program that was launching on startup. I unchecked it and the folder no longer pops up. Not sure what this program does though?

Me too! It's damn annoying

I called sony support, and they said they are working on a fix,and will post it on their site as soon as avail.

For the meantime do the following.

1) From your "start" menu, select "Run..."

2) Type in "msconfig" (withouth the quotes) and click OK

3) Select the "Startup" Tab and uncheck "Configtool"

4) Click Apply

5) Restart your computer

6) After your computer restarted, there will be a pop up window stating something about your configuration. Simply check the box, do not show again (or something in that nature), and close the pop up

7) That should do it!

The above information was supplied to me by one of the Sony Technicians

The sony techs said disabling the configtool on your startup will not affect anything. So they told me if I find the Sony folder to be too annoying at each startup then I should disable it.

The fix is on its way sometime soon.

Thanks for the "disabling" information. It has definitely stopped the pop-up and I have not been able to notice any other difference.

this worked like a charm for me too!! but I'm running windows 2000 pro on my pc, so there is no "msconfig" program. I was able to edit the registry though and delete the "configtool.exe" entry under:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE - SOFTWARE - MICROSOFT - WINDOWS - CURRENT VERSION - RUN

as always, be careful editing your registry, but it doesn't seem to negatively affect my machine... I guess you can always export the key before deleting it in case something bad happens, you'll have something you can easily restore....

I had the same problem too, but tried the solution that unreg. posted, and so far so good.

Why would sony have that stupid folder open every time you start up??

You might try Startup Control Panel, a small freeware app. I've been using this for some time with no ill effects. It lists all startup items - both in the Registry and the Startup Items folder.

Sadly, the site tries to get you to install a Gator component before you can download. JUST SAY NO! The program itself does not install any spyware.

Sony has an update for this problem.
Go to th Sony page, find handhelds , got to support, then to clies handheld, look for PEG-UX50 and in drivers and updates you can find the update.

Thanks for this as this has been driving me insane too! If I try to rename the Sony folder a message pops up saying if you rername, move etc it may cause some programs not to work (or words to that effect). Is it defintely OK to proceed?!
