I have a new t665c with a lexar media 128mb stick. I copy mp3 to the correct folder and tried coping to other folders and audioplayer still does not play. I have tried different files and formats. Can anyone help?
Thanks

Is it in the /Palm/Programs/MSAudio folder?
What parameters are you using?
Some Clies don't like anything fancy for MP3's or anything that has coded copy protection.

Yes, to first question, Not sure what you mean on second question, Third, I have used several different sizes and types of songs.

Most new Clies play only basic MP3's. Sony focuses more on it's proprietary ATRAC3 format and Magic Gate white Memory Stick, which most users don't use. Higher costs and difficulty.
You can't have copy protection enabled, no VBR, MP3 Pro, or other compression schemes.
Start with 44.1KHz sampling rate, and 96kbps bit rate. I use Music Match to create and rip my MP3's. Sonic Stage may not work if it's included with the T665C.

Before you give up completely, get the free program "dbPowerAmp Music Converter" at,
http://www.dbpoweramp.com/dmc.htm
Convert some of your MP3 files into a really standard format, such as 44 kHz and 128 kbps. Put that new MP3 file into /palm/programs/msaudio/ and see how it plays. If it still doesn't play, you may have a bigger problem.
dbPowerAmp is a great program. It can rip files directly from CD and convert programs between all kinds of formats.

I download that program and it still won't play them. I still shows them on the MS. The name of the track scrolls across the screen. When I press play it just never starts playing.

Hmm. I'm not sure what to suggest from here. Are you running a program that silences the sound? Do you have the headphones plugged in? Is the "hold" slider switch on your headphone control in the wrong position?
A couple of other things you could try; put the songs on a different memory stick (even that crappy 8-Meg stick will hold one MP3 file!). Or, try that replacement audio player (ajvmp). Try a different set of headphones (one without a control set). Try no headphones at all (i.e., does the song LOOK like it's playing?). Try loading and playing a video file (can you hear the sound?). Try putting the stick in a friend's Clie and see if it plays.
If you try all these things, you'll probably get a much better idea where the problem lies.

Did a hard reset and it works now. Just have to reinstall some programs. Thanks for the help.

what's ajvmp and where can I d/l?
I also have the same problem, the mp3 files seem to be protected. It's an audio lecture in mp3 format, not a song. How can resolve this problem?

If it's a lecture, chances are that the problem is that it has been encoded at a very low bit rate. Voice files will sound good at very low bit rates, so many people encode them that way to save space.
Audio player won't play MP3 files with very low bit rates (it will incorrectlt tell you that the file is protected or corrupted). Use dbPowerAmp to convert it.

Spoken word MP3s are commonly sampled at a lower frequency, e.g, 22KHz, which the clié won't play. A quick way to tell is to play it in Winamp and see if it displays a 44KHz, or lower, sample rate.

The Clie will play a wide variety of MP3 data rates. Up to 256K, and either variable or fixed bit rate. But the files MUST be 44.1KHz sample rate. If you have files at any other rate, you must re-sample them to 44.1.
The copy protected error message is a generic error message that audio player uses for any problem (I think it's the only error message it has, so it just uses it for everything).

BTW, resampling makes MP3s sound like crap, so only do this as a last resort. If you have the uncompressed source, you're much better off re-encoding it at 44.1 and whatever bitrate you want.

See if you have any luck with AJVMP3 (above).

Now, I can listen to my audio lectures. I converted the mp3 to wave, and then back to mp3 with a higher frequency. Thank you for everyone who helped out!

The NX70 will NOT play mp3's that have variable bit rate but, the NR70 can.

This is a limitation of the software player on the NX, as far as I'm aware.
