Alright guys I need some assistance with my recently purchased WL100 wifi card.

I had purchased this LAN card from ebay;

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3046144817&category=27968&rd=1

I had purchased it with out the installation cd and manual. The item arrived yesterday in original packaging but ripped open in the back with BEST BUY INSPECTION tape on the back to seal it.

Now my problem is installing the LAN CARD, can anyone help me getting it installed? I went to the Sony support but the only had the manual for download which doesn't help much.

Please let me know my options, thanks guys!

You really haven't given any info to help you. There is a lot more to it than you realize!

Below is an initial setup for a cable modem:

In the HotSync app
-------------------------------
Set Local/Modem to: Modem (above center main HotSync Icon)
Below center main HotSync Icon: Set to Wireless LAN
Modem Sync Preferences: Network
LANSync Preferences: LANSync
Primary PC Setup - Primary PC Name: !!
Primary PC Setup - Primary PC Address: 192.168.1.100 ***(sample addy)
Primary PC Setup - Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

Network Preference Settings
--------------------------------
Service: Wireless LAN
Profile Name: Any name you want to give it.
Network ID: any (the correct SSID can be set later)
WEP Key: None (can be added later)
ConnectMode: Infrastructure
IP Address & DNS address: Auto checked on both.
PowerSaveMode: Leave unchecked until you are up and working!
***The Primary PC address is found by right clicking the HotSync Manager Icon in the system tray. Select setup, Network, TCP/IP Settings.

I think he/she was actually trying to find out how to install it since no driver was provided.

The driver is available on Sony's site. It should be listed as an available download for your device. i.e. If you have an NZ90, look at the available downloads for the NZ90. Also, if you search for "pega-wl100" in English it comes up as one of the first few hits.

Here is one of the links returned by the search: http://www.ita.sel.sony.com/bin/support/support.cgi?whichone=1&installfile=wl100_enus.txt&downloadfile=WL100_ENUS.PRC&loc=2After you've got the driver installed, take a look at the Wireless forum and, specifically, this thread for more information: http://www.cliesource.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=52

Oh, I am sorry that I missed the "without the CD and Manual" part.:(

For some reason I thought it said with CD and manual.

Larry:
Any familiarity with a 2Wire Home Portal and getting connected? Below is some of the details of my system (I hope I give you all the pertinent information)

2Wire Home Portal on a DSL connection from SBC
Have an NZ90 with card, and a UX50.
(the UX50 did find the system on the auto scan. I changed none of the settings it populated. When trying either email or Netfront (which I know you hate), they both bomb out. Netfront says invalid network settings, email times out)

On the NZ - pretty much the same errors.

I didn't know what settings to modify (and the search on here gave me about 1000 threads to read), so I didn't monkey with any of them.

Any suggestions or guidance? Much appreciated :)

He-he, I have 3,000 posts alone extolling the virtues of NetFront!:D Actual, since my acquisition of the NX80, NetFront has been a little more palatable than previous.

Most of the advance NetFront settings are disabled unless needed for smoother sailing, or is that surfing?

If NF and email say invalid network settings, then your are NOT setup properly, so it's not seeing the WAN/DSL.

Typical setup for cable or dsl modem. They are setup slightly different in the router. Now things may not be exactly the same for the UX50. Should be close enough for government work. Below are auto settings, but in some strange situations, only manual settings will do.

In the HotSync app
-------------------------------
Set Local/Modem to: Modem (above center main HotSync Icon)
Below center main HotSync Icon: Set to Wireless LAN
Modem Sync Preferences: Network
LANSync Preferences: LANSync
Primary PC Setup - Primary PC Name: !!
Primary PC Setup - Primary PC Address: 192.168.1.100 ***(sample addy)
Primary PC Setup - Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

If using Win XP, either kill the ICF firewall or create service port 14238. This can kill the WiFi HotSync otherwise!

Network Preference Settings
--------------------------------
Service: Wireless LAN
Profile Name: Any name you want to give it.
Network ID: any (the correct SSID can be set later)
WEP Key: None (can be added later)
ConnectMode: Infrastructure
IP Address & DNS address: Auto checked on both.
PowerSaveMode: Leave unchecked until you are up and working!
***The Primary PC address is found by right clicking the HotSync Manager Icon in the system tray. Select setup, Network, TCP/IP Settings.

I'll hold up right here and see how you've progressed.:)

What I had inquired about was the driver since I did not have the cd or manual. However that's been taken care of and now I'm not too pleased to read the threads pertaining to the wifi sniffer!!!

Just out of curiousity would the KENSINGTON SNIFFER work with the Palm OS5??? I really want to be able to fish off of other wireless networks while I'm walking around in school or other places.

Now if I was in Starbucks and decided to use their hot spots, how do I access it if I do not have the sniffer? Will I have to ask the dude at the counter for the SSID???

DAMN SONY

The Kensington will only show open networks, but not identify them.

Basically yes! You will also need to subscribe to T-Mobile's special WiFi service at most Starbucks.

DAMN SONY

Larry,
Ordinarily I'm an entirely helpless geek :) Here's where I got so far.

Followed the instructions just fine until the ICF comment. I've always had XP's firewall killed; creating a service port is beyond my abilities. I'd probably rate my skill a "5" out of 10 here; knows a little bit more than some but not much ;)

Set up as above. I tried to connect and it goes into "retry" without success. I DID try it again, adding the WEP key I was told that mine was (10 digit character, starts with a 5). It "connects", or says it does, but then I'm right back to the email and NF problems.

I appreciate ALL your help :), dm

Oh yea - forgot. On the 2nd try (when I added the WEP), the Portal software on the main computer DID recognize the device on the network. Don't know if that's a clue or at all helpful but I forgot to include that - dm

Naw, I wouldn't say that!:)

It's not that hard to do, it's rather simple actually. We can discuss it at a later time. The point being if the XP Firewall was enabled, it would kill the wireless HotSync unless the service port was added, that's all. The Win XP firewall generates a log in the Windows folder on the PC and I found the needed info there.

Set up as above. I tried to connect and it goes into "retry" without success. I DID try it again, adding the WEP key I was told that mine was (10 digit character, starts with a 5). It "connects", or says it does, but then I'm right back to the email and NF problems.

The whole point of disabling the WEP Key on both the Clie and the wireless access point was to simplify things and provide fewer road blocks until all was said and done.

The SSID is case sensitve too!

If your auto settings in the Clie don't work, then we'll have to add them manually. Make sure your wireless access point is set to DHCP!

The Gateway and DNS settings are what steer you to the internet. The DNS is from your ISP, the gateway is the IP address of the router(The same IP you would use to access the router from your web browser). The IP address on the Clie would be the device address assigned by the wireless access point. It's usually one up from the starting address.

The router should assign IP addresses as follows:(The IP's are sample only for illustration purposes)
192.168.2.1 (router)
192.168.2.2 (first device address requested) (Clie)
192.168.2.3 (second device address requested)
192.168.2.4 (third device address requested)
192.168.2.5 (forth device address requested)
and so on....

I appreciate ALL your help :), dm

Think of it as a two step process. Picture a house! First you access the house by the front door using the IP addresse as a key(LAN side). Then the Gateway and DNS addresses are the instuctions on how to find the back door of the house to get on the internet.

If you can access email or the Internet, your in!:)

I hope this helps some

Larry - Saw your responses, just a bit pressed for time to try time at the moment. As soon as I can sit down and try them I'll post my results or lack there of. :) I didn't want you to think your efforts at responding weren't being looked at or appreciated. Wish me luck - d
