I just called several companies and got varied responses as to when the nz90 is coming out. The fastest, whether its true or not, has been pcnation.com. They said it was expected on the 6th and that they would ship it out the same day. It's also the same price as from harmony computers, at $725 shipped, with the regular method. The cheapest has been techonweb.com but they said they will not get or send out the device for at least 3 weeks.

if that's true (as in THEY told you the truth - not a question of what you're posting)- they'll get my biz. I hate waiting :D

exaclty my thoughts. I just called PC Nation and they seem to be certain they are receiving units on Feb. 4th. But when I mentioned that Sony Style told me they were shipping on the 20th, the salesperson was shocked and didn't understand why they would get them earlier. If it turns out that they did get them in on the 6th, I will also be buying from them.

they must be going nuts - I just called them too. Told me that the computer shows they're getting them Friday, but cautioned me that "it's been wrong before" and suggested I call back then. We will see on Friday.
If it's true, then I just might go against my past history and buy from a vendor online that I've never dealt with before. No sales tax for me (according to them IL only) and even with the shipping included, (I GOTTA do overnight) I'll come out 80 bucks ahead. Their pricegrabber.com reviews are generally favourable, so it's looking promising. Ditto for Harmony.

it always ends up to be sony style shiping first. other companys post dates which always end up moving forward. i will probably stcik with sony style but i'm not sure yet. this is when it will finally come out in the uk by the way
I just e-mailed sonystyle asking about specific dates on when the nz90 would come out and they just sent me back a blanket repsonse giving me urls to the different sonystyle products not really answering any questions I had... however one interesting thing is they gave me the urls to the upcoming ms releases as well. Here they are for anyone interested.

I thought the tradition was Sony Style ships online first but the big brick and mortar stores already had them in stock several days prior.
@ this point who knows. As far as I'm concerned I will be calling pcnation this thursday. If they have it I'm ordering it overnight mail and I'll let everyone know when I get it friday. :)
PS - maybe with the money I saved I'll get an extra battery to take lots of pictures (w/flash) of me smiling and holding my new toy.

I wonder why/how PC Nation would be able to have the units before Sony Style? I dont think Sony Style would want to give anyone an advantage over them. Any thoughts on this?

Either PC Nation knows something we don't or they're being optimistic and trying to snag the orders, hold them til release date and let it rip

They are trying to snag orders is my best guess...lots of companies out there play this game..
What will happen is, you will call, they will say yes we have it in.
Then then will charge your card, and then say sorry but we just ran out of stock or we made a mistake, and now you can get a credit, but they will make it a hassle.
Be really careful I smell something fishy here.

Don't forget what people went through with Dell and early promised delivery dates with the NX...... Some had to wait 2-3 extra weeks beyond their "promised" delivery date...
I'll buy mine at a local store-IF they carry 'em!!!!

Davy, you make a good point, although there is a bit of a snag...Companies that sell products such as PC Nation CANNOT charge your card UNTIL the product has shipped. If they do charge your card, they are operating illegally and should be reported to authorities. Sony WILL NOT charge your credit card until the order has shipped to avoid this legality. If companies could charge your card before the product is in stock, I believe Sony would also be charging all the orders they've been receiving and sit on the money and make loads of interest until the ship date they've selected.
Just my $0.02, maybe $0.03 this time :p
I agree. Anyway I'm not even saying preorder at these sites. I'm jsut saying I'm going to call and if they say they ahve it in there ahnd I'll buy it on the spot. Further yeah the reviews aren't so good for pc nation but they are good for harmony computers and techonweb. @ the very least I would say they are shipping the 15th based on other websites and sonystyle is just being pesimistic saying the 20th.

I can tell you this store in NYC, and at their website always gets the Sony Clie a week before anyone else does.
When the Nr and NX came out they got them the first day they were available about a week before Best Buy/Compusa had them.

I have never ordered online from them so no idea how reliable they are, since I purcahsed my NR70V at the time from the store in person in NYC
They also have it listed at $699.99

Yep figured as much, I bet they never even had them in...
I am going to stop in tonight and find out from the sales rep, you have to find the right person to find out the right info, when they are exactly coming out.
Last time I went in there when the NR70 or NX70 came out, the sale guy did not even know they had them in, they were bureid behind some other stock, and I actually pointed it to him, he goes oh wow when did these come in...LOL
So it would not suprise me if they are really out that they might have them.
yeah please do so we can judge if anyone actually has them or if its jsut a lot fo smoke and mirrors. Thanks

as far as Davy19's post saying that PCnation got a so so review, I did a quick check of a few other companies and PCnation actually did much better than most companies on the sites review. PCnation had a rating of 6.19, Sony for example only got a 5.3 and Bestbuy only a 2!

I called PC Nation today to try and verify that they will be getting them in tomorrow and the guy told me to check in on Friday, cause they will be sitting on the dock most of tomorrow. However, I do not believe they would let suck precious cargo sit there and not sell it. I am also calling tomorrow and I will post the results here as soon as possible.
me too. I feel like I've become and agent of pc nation advertising dept. Maybe I should ask for a cut? or at least a discount.

Well I went into Datavision, and the guy said he was not sure...he knows a lot of people have been calling today, but he could not give a definite date and does not know why it shows in stock.
He said try back next week.
I have to though for $699 it is a great deal, I dont understand how they can mark it down so low, the NX/NR was $599.99 when they were released at datavision
I can go buy it at datavision for $699.99 and walk across the street to the compusa and get an etended warranty for $69.99, which will be worth it.
Btw, i asked in compusa and they had no clue what I was talking about, same goes for best buy, as far as dates.

Dammit...the NZ-release date has been pushed back in japan...
Originally to be released along with the new SJ on Feb8th, but now the NZ is pushed til the 15th. I wonder why.....:(
I heard from my cousin at sony japan that some of the felica readers were missaligned and so they had to recalibrate all of the machines rather then sending out faulty products.

Same deal here in Canada. Most of our stores here haven't heard of the NZ let alone know when they are getting them in.
Well I just got off the phone w/pcnation and the guy told me to check back next week so I gather they did not get them in. I will be calling all of these places everyday until someone tells me that they have it and I will continue to post my results.

zx7rgirl...before your order processes with Sony - READ THEIR RETURN POLICY. Make sure it's something you can live with (assuming that you haven't already). :)
It's not very customer friendly.
well datavision is out, they just raised there price by $100. looks like its back to pcnation.
ok now I'm confused bc i reloaded the screen and the price dropped back to 699. I guess... ignore the previous post. Sorry

Hi Littlesix!
All the sony.ca site says is 30-days for return and price protection. I'm going to "***"ume that I would be able to return it at a physical store... even if the box was opened. I'll call and clarify that, though. Do you have a particularly nasty experience to share? I can't find anyone else offering it in Toronto right now :(
davy19
02-06-2003, 08:49 PM

02-06-2003, 08:53 PM
davy,
you said before you could buy the NZ in one store and then go to CC and get an extended warranty? is that right or did I understand you wrong?
davy19
02-06-2003, 09:03 PM
I have never done it personally, but from what people said here, and I asked myself at compusa, if you buy it somewhere else, as long as you have a receipt and it is withtin 14 days of the receipt you can take it to compusa even if you bought it from lets say datavision and still get the 1 or 2 year extended warranty.
If that price is really $699.99 and datavision gets it in, I am really tempted to get one, and then go right across the street to compusa to get the warranty.
When I did ask the customer service rep about this policy she did look at me like I was nuts, but then she asked the store manager, and he said yes you can do it, just not many people do.
dimensiondvdrob
02-06-2003, 09:05 PM
so basically, i could get it from Sony Style and go to BB or Comp USA and get the extended warranty. then in the future, i can exercise the warranty directly through BB or Comp? If that's true, it's a very foreign concept.
davy19
02-06-2003, 09:21 PM
yes according to what the store mgr, just make sure you have a receipt showing you bought it within 14 days, and of course they have to make sure it works.
I personally did not beleive a store would do that but then again, these stores make tons of moeny off extended warranties, and more they sell better they look for the home office.
I think maybe only 5% ever actually use it...and those 5% are probably people who buy pda's LOL
you can also do this by buyign the mack warrnety within 30 days and its a 3 yr w. for only 30. Thats what I'll probably do. Also to return somthing form sonystyle you must call get an rma number and send it to kali. its a very long and drawn out process. If you don't have the original packaging u get charged for restocking. Its probalby easier to just get a warrenty form someone else if theres a problem.
davy19
02-07-2003, 04:39 AM
I heard bad things about mack warranty from the digital forum I go to.
Basically if it breaks, they will give you a hard time about getting it fixed, almsot placing all blame on the user's fault.
I rather just be able to walk into any compusa and get a replacement on the spot or a nice upgrade.
thanks for letting me know. if thats the case then compusa it is. I know that the sony ex. war. is horrible so i won't be doing that but compusa's plan sounds good.
Oh and bc of snow school was canceled so in a few hrs I'm going to an intensive search to find the best price on the web and then call all of the sites. I'll update the progress later.
davy19
02-07-2003, 07:18 AM
yep and with compusa they cover screen breakage, which is a real good thing to ahve.
Best Buy does not, so if best buy does not get the NZ in like reporrtedly i might just buy mine either at datavision, orr compusa.
pcnation is out to have it first. There arrival date went from 2-5 days to 2 + weeks. 1 down 10 to go. I'm starting to get the feeling based on asking sony that it really won't be out here utnil the 20th.
Here are the results. Datavision is still optimistic that they will get in 100 sometime next week. Harmony computers bleieves soemtime next week as well. PC Nation pushed their's back by 2 weeks. Dell says 3+ weeks which would be a week after sony shipped. Compusa says will ship form them monday the 17th whihc seems like the most reasonable. Sony sends them out on saturday they get them monday and then they get to most people on the 20th. Techdepot has them for $751 and is expecting them next week. Freeway tech had them expected on 2/6 and we all know thats just wrong so forget about them. Digitally unique told me they ahd them until they actually searched and could not find one Their website is shady with wrong info anyway. And finally digital etc. said they would be getting theirs in sometime next MONTH! Hopefully we will recieve next week but maybe sony won't let them out untill their orders are filled. We will have to see. In the meantime I've cleared a nice big space on my desk in anticipation. I think I will today just preorder from datavis and get it over with. What are other people doing?

I already sold my previous PDA and accesories on Amazon/eBay/and various forums. I plan on visiting CompUSA to see the NZ in person, then purchase through "techonweb.com" they still have the best price I've seen at $696.00. Of course this all means I probably won't be able to get one til end of the month... heck, maybe I should just pre-order it ..but I'd really like to see it in person first..

Hey... I have a thought I wonder if anyone has checked this out? I live near San Francisco, in the city they have a Sony store (it's in the Metreon).. they always have the latest and greatest stuff from Sony there. I am going to the city this weekend, maybe I'll stop in and ask about the NZ90? who knows if I am lucky they may have one in the store to check out?? -Maybe it's just wishful thinking on my part???

Just called techonweb - they're speculating that they'll have them on the 12th (we all know how those will change).
I'm half tempted just to get it from them and chill. They have a decent price, their people were cool on the phone and all their pricegrabber.com ratings are generally good.
Davy you should def put it up now. Our allies to the north are buying them up like hotcakes. I sold mine on ebay for 600 w/case about 3 weeks ago. It costs more for them so there was a lot of interest. It sucks not having a clie for a few weeks and i am dying w/out it but it worth it to get your money back.
Eric, yeah i forgot about techonweb. They actually come out a little cheaper then datavis but if I had a problem I could have my dad, who works not too far from them, return it; where as techonweb is not anywhere around here. They are comparable but yes I think we will be waiting to the end of the month. Def go and see if u can get your hands on one this weekend. I perosnally know that I'm preordering before the weekend is out just in case they do get them in early and I miss out on this shipment.
Well forget the end of the weekend. iI jsut preordered it from datavision. When ur doing the 3 day selcect they come out to the same price. It gave me a number w/ an ext so maybe when i call 2morrow I won't get the same genric response and I can actually give you guys a release date.

I don't know about Sony.ca but down here the return policy sucks. You have a fair amount of time to return everything, but they'll take up to 2 months before they'll credit back your card.

I've been recieving calls from customers for this product. Customers have requested that I email them when I recieve this item in for stock. One Customer has asked for me to make this post today. If you would like to be added to the list please email me your request and I will add you to the list.
Once I recieve the product I will send one bulk emailing attempt and I will then delete all your emails. I just hate getting junk email and I'm sure some of you do as well.
I have access to several vendors out there so I will monitor this for you on a daily bases.
Let me know by email only

Well, that post was very cool of him :) Thanks to whomever set that up.
OK - I'm still doing my comparison shopping online. Much as I'd love to just walk into a brick and mortar, the allure of that 100+ bucks savings is talking to me. So with that in mind:
Those of you that ordered through datavis - my question is why? You know something about them that others might not? Their ratings on Pricegrabber.Com (http://www.pricegrabber.com/rating_getreview.php/retid=595/ut=42b5604598300d81) and Reseller Ratings.com (http://www.resellerratings.com/seller1215.html) well - in a word - they suck. Hugely. I'm not 2nd guessing your decisions, but if I didn't know them, and strictly went by the above sites, they'd never see a nickle of my money.
PCNation.Com is still in the running for me. Their ratings (http://www.resellerratings.com/seller1510.html) are better than average, but Joel's post just got them some extra clout with me. Bigtime.
Techonweb.com Their ratings here (http://www.resellerratings.com/seller2098.html) and here (http://www.pricegrabber.com/rating_getreview.php/retid=208/ut=42b5604598300d81) compartively, aren't too damn bad at all. I kept one of their CSR's on the phone for about 1/2 hour with tons of questions. When we concluded, I got his name and direct extension plus a promise that if I needed anything I could come direct back to him rather than going in the call pool. Same sentiment for post sale. God forbid I have to return it, but if I do, he told me to call him direct.
So, not having done business with any of these sites, I'm treading lightly. The money I save is going right back out to an extra battery (hey - it's in the budget for this little excursion of mine. Might as well blow the whole wad) and I don't wanna get jacked on the transaction. I'd rather wait a week on a vendor that I can trust, than jump in blindly and risk it. If I turn out getting screwed, then I'd just as soon go buy it in person and spend the extra money.
Thoughts?
edit: Killed the word "lukewarm". In reading the shopper reviews, they do better than that.

to Ark (from an earlier post on this thread)
funny I sold my Visor Prism to someone in Canada...
is it really dificult to purchase a PDA in Canada?? do no internet companies ship to Canada?? why not?? I sold then shipped my Prism and many accesories to someone in Canada, it cost very little.. in fact probably close to the same price to ship anywhere in the US. I am amazed it is so dificult for them to get PDA's?
its not that its difficult, its that it costs so much. THe nx70 form the sonystyle website was like 900. Its just cheaper for them to get it from here. I recieved e-mails after the auction to sell it to them. Some even offered me money to go buy a new clie and send it to them .it would still end up being cheaper.
Harmony is a friendly site as well. I would recommend from the sites I talked to datavision, pcnation, and harmony. THye were the most informative/ lowest priced and they all think they will have a shipment in next week.

Thanks Ark for the info, I think I shoudl take the advice, I do remeber when I went to Canada, I felt much richer.
I gave them $100 to exchange, and ended up with $150 cant beat.
Question,
I have never shipped anything to Canada. Is there anything special I need to know?
Who does shipping there? Fedex?
I did 3 weeks ago. ups was cheap considering some of the rest, it was only $30. But the pain in the *** was to fill out the customs forms. You must declare all items and fill in the forms completley. It takes forever to fill them out but he recieved the package in only 3 days.

That 900 is in Canadian dollars not american. Converted you guys could it cheaper up here, not the other way around, because US dollars are worth much more.
welll they gave them to me as part of the ups psoting when I went to mail boxes etc. Its was just a pain to fill them out.

Any place/site I have checked out in Canada has the nx for 1000 cdn... which is around 630 US. However, there is a Toronto guy selling them on ebay for about 475 US right now, sealed. Awesome deal, but I wouldn't buy from an unknown. As for anyone else, check the completed items under ebay.com to see what you can expect.
Customs forms are usually included with the papers the shipping co. has you fill out. UPS is brutal! They ALWAYS charge canadians final brokerage fees - Fedex is much better.

Spoke to the purchasing head; they're getting them in on the 20th. For their kind of price, I can live with it easy.

Just played around on amazon.com
The front page says that the NZ is shipping on 2/17.
When you order it on the other hand, the ship date gets revised to 2/27.
Very subtle message on the order screen - if you're not careful you'd never see it.

so this goes back to the beginning of this post, or maybe it was another post... anyhow, why would CompUSA carry the NZ90 and Best Buy not carry it???

20 to 25 Feb is NZ Delivery date by Sony in Hong Kong priced at HK$5980 or US$767 with 32MB MS.
Yeah everyone keeps saying the 17th now as a solid date but I believe we will be seeing the 1st handhelds released directly from sony. As for datvis. They said they didn't have any instock and the website was finally corrected. Now today the website is back to saying they have them in stock. I don't understand.

no free stuff for the sad Americans. They know that they can milk us for everything we have got, but in Japan there is so many gadgets and what not out there that sony has to at least seem like they are giving them a deal.
It is a sad sad fact that America is gadget retarded.

Funny, though: With Sony's VAIO Laptop line, only the USA models come with 'free' DVD/CDRW drives... For most models, it's option-only in Japan.
Spoke with a sales rep at Best Buy today, and she told me they were getting the NZ 90 at the end of Feb. or early March. She said there are two models - one silver, which will sell for $799 and one black, which will sell for $ 899. I haven't heard anything about a silver NZ90 - have any of you?
She insisted she was correct - said the Sony rep was in yesterday and she spoke with him herself.
I'm confused...

she obviously doesnt know sheit....unless the $899 one is the rumored (mystery) clie with the 5gig internal drive and DSP chip?
(just a bit of wishful-thinking on my part:D )
Sony is shipping their supply of nz90s. hopefully all the other companies will be sending theirs out on the 17th as the compusa site suggests. We may yet have them by the end of next week. :)

yeah, i just called sony tonight and they told me they were in stock! so i am hoping to get my order tomorrow (i paid for overnight shipping) or on Monday, since they'll prolly ship mine out tomorrow if they have not done so already.
You'll have to let us know how that went. I personally didn't feel I should pay an extra 150 and so i preordered mine from datavis.com

Ditto - can't hang with Sony and pay 150 more. At this point I'm waiting.

NZ-90 is in stock at CompUSA in Deerfield, FL. They are selling for $799. They had about 6 boxes in their display window. The guy behind the counter didn't even know they were there until I pointed them out to him.

well I'm telling everyone to go with datavision now. Pcnation dosen't have them and dosen't know when they will, harmony computer is shipping monday, and techonweb.com said they would have them in another 2 weeks. Datavision has them and is shipping them out. They may be like $2 more then techonweb but its worth it.

their real price is 699
They just have some e-mail thing but if u put it in the cart it comes up cheaper
Okay, something's not right here. I called datavision earlier today and they said they would not be getting any NZ90's in until next week. They would not even take my order! Said I'd have to wait until they got the units in next week.
What's up? Does anyone know?
well they have them in stock and you can preorder through the website. I don't know why they blocked you but I've had a preorder in for a while and they said it had shipped the day before.

pre-ordered mine from pcconnection.com, just called, said they were shipping tonight, should have mine Tuesday
good bye Palm 505
I just ordered it through their website. It said they have it in stock. The guy I spoke with on the phone today must have been too busy to take the order or something - who ever heard of a company telling a person (with credit card in hand!) to call back next week? Should have got his name - maybe he needs to be reported to the manager.
Anyway, I hope I didn't make a mistake ordering from them. So far, I'm not too happy with their "customer service!"
well that one guy may have been stupid but all the others I've talked with were very helpful and imformative. They didn't just give you the same bs answers that the sony rep gave to them.
