I know this has been asked before, but I cannot remember the answer: Does afterburner work on the T615?
Thanks:)

Just tried it and it looks like it does. I owned this years ago and left it for FastCPU, but I cannot even run FastCPU without a crash:(

What version and settings are you using for FastCPU? I ran it with no problems on my T415, and it is activated on my 665, though it doesn't seem to help much. Let me know if I can help.

Fast CPU has giving me problems mainly in the new 3.0 release. I can't even get into FastCPU to set it to anything as the reset occurs upon the entrance of the program. Thanks for the offer. There is some conflict, and I just don't know with what...

Tixx, Afterburner should work without problems on the T615. I used it on my Visor Platinum (33Mhz). With various optimizations, I was running at the equivalent of 50Mhz (based on Benchmark). If you use Tealmaster, I think AB is better than FCPU, bacause TM allows you to disable one or more hacks for a specific program. With FCPU, once it's activated, it's always on, until you deactivate the program (with a reset). Even if you set the speed to 33 MHz, FCPU is still running.

Hope this helps.

AB ran great on my old T615C, as did FastCPU 2.8. AB doesn't support apps on the cards, but FCPU 2.0 does. That's why I switched. However, FCPU 3.0 locks up my T665C, and is unstable even when set to 66 MHz. I'm very disappointed in MegaSoft, as they've been unable or unwilling to address the problem.

Maybe I'll go back and try FCPU 2.8 again. Though AB is working fine at 54mhz. Helps speed up ZLauncher:)

Afterburner was a great program in it's time. But the limit of the overclocking is to 44Mhz. You can pitch FastCPU on a 615 to 55Mhz without any problems.

With 66Mhz processors, FastCPU is the only one that can handle this. As for OS5 devices - I'll defer to someone who has a device and knows what really happens! :)

I had problem with FCPU 3.0, but not with 2.8.  Besides I really like the small footprint of 2.8 (59KB) since it resides in RAM.

True. Almost 25% of the size of 3.0

I tried emailing the author of Afterburner to see if he would update it for th 66MHz Clies. Maybe if enought of us asked...?

I always prefered Afterburner, even when FastCPU was fairly stable at v2.8. FastCPU 3.0 sucks!

Yes in addition, there are other options (wait states, paging, etc.) that will offer performance imporvements. I had AB set to 42 MHz and with zero wait states and other options was running at the equvalent of 50 MHz. This was faster (based on Benchmark) that just maxing out the Mhz's, and more stable as well.

I had the HiRes Gray FCPU 3.0 running fine on my 415, and now have FCPU 3.0 (sz) running fine for a couple of weeks on my 665. Make sure you install the right version (there are 5 to choose from). For the 615 it would be Color_HR, while the 665 would use the color_HR_SZ. I set the built-in apps back to 33 Mhz in hopes of saving some battery life, and have 4 or 5 apps that I set at 82 Mhz. I have not experienced any problems at all, although the performance difference between 66 and 82 mhz is no where as great as between 33 and 55 mhz on my 415.

That is the one I used:(

As I remember, the limit was at about 83 - 84 MHz, and there were a few apps I had to back off to 66..  And that's when I gave up on it.  I have always overclocked my other PDAs using AB, but an increase of a bit more than 25%, which I really did not notice, wasn't worth the effort and mild instability to me.  If AB or FastCPU update to provide a meaningful increase in speed, I may try again.

Is FastCPU v2.8 still available somewhere?

It used to be on their website with 3.0, but it looks like they removed it.

Tried the old 2.8 and it does the same crash senario:( Something does not play nice with it.

It may be an app that depends on the system timing to operate correctly. Network, modem, and some screen-drawing apps and utilities are pretty timing dependent. I found 2.8 to be very stable on my T615C, which I ran at 48 and 51 MHz depending on my mood. To get that stability, I manually set programs like MS Import, some games, clock programs, sound and IR utilities, and the like to 33 MHz to get correct operation. Those problems were manifest by improper app operation, though, not crashes.

It used to be stable on my 615 as well. 2.8 seemed to crash during the scanning of the card.

Would you recommend FCPU 3.0 for a T415 user? I need to speed-up a grade tracking package called Teachers PET. I would also like to improve MS access.

I haven't tried it on a 33 MHz device, but it should work OK. I had no problems with 2.8 on my T615C.
