View Full Version : How Useful is the NX's CF Card slot?
I'm thinking of getting a clie so I'd like to know if the NX's feature of using CF cards can be maximized in terms of data storage (like vidoes, pictures, mp3s)? From previous posts, I heard it's not that useful at all. TIA!

On my nx-70, using the Eruware Software, the CF slot has become very useful since it essentially emulates a Memory Stick. I can not speak for the other NX's though.

Odds are if you have a digital camera, it uses a CF card. Popping this out of your camera and into your handheld to display pictures is very convenient.
The CF slot also alows you to connect the handheld to the Internet with Wi-Fi, which raises the whole device to a new level of usefulness.

on my NX70 I used a CF card constantly- for pix, videos, mp3s- I bought the wi-fi card too, although don't use it as much as I thought I would.
also the CF slot is fixed on the 70 (vs. hinged on the 73/80) so it's the same size with the card in or out- I left my CF data card in there ALL the time.
curious- where around here did you hear that the CF slot is 'not useful at all'??
Oh talk about the Sony WiFi Card, I had that one too when it was 1st released, it was costly, & neither have I used it often as I thought I would. :p
Since the release of Eruware to other patched drivers. CompactFlash was the main hardware that sits in the CF Slot.
I use it with my NX70 & I just can't imagine myself using my CLIE without my 1G CF Card.
I store one full length movie on the CF, also other short video Clips. Lack of storage space was the least of my concerns.
Also store over 50 songs within the CF Card but never have I had the time to listen to them all.
Also I use the extra space to store valuable applications for both the CLIE & home PC as well. (Always around with my 6-in-1 Card Reader/ Writer) :p
It's as useful as you make it! I use it for CF storage (Mainly backups), MP3s, long vids, WiFi and with a CF to MS converter for copying stuff to a friend's MS (much faster than IR beaming). ;)

It's a great tool to be used in the NX.

After I bought ny NX80V, I bought a 256MB MS Pro and a 1GB CF card. I store video and MP3 on the CF card, and I store all the other stuff like applications, data, etc on the MS. I also have bougth WL110 for internet, althought I don't use it that much.
1GB MS Pro is just too expensive, I could have bought 2x1GB CF with money left. Using CF, I saved a lot of money on removable memory. I think this is the most important of all for me.

I'm planning to use it as a digital wallet for my Cybershot when going on a long trip or vacation. 1 Gb CF is still a lot cheaper then the 1 Gb MS Pro... and it will be easier to categorize the photos per day, for instance putting them in a "day" directory.
And of course for the WiFi card.
