View Full Version : T-series with Virtual Graffiti??
I received an email from Clie Vaio today (CLIÉ Communiqué - Edition 2). Very interestingly it had image at the top of the email of a T615 with the Memory Stick Camera Module and a full screen image displayed on the Clie screen (i.e. virtual graffiti)
I can only assume that someone was playing with Paint Shop Pro - as if it was real I would expect the image to have been of a T665 casing rather than a T615.
or does this mean .............?????? :D
Anyone else received this email?

Well ... the image file was supposed to be attached.:(
How do you attach an image other than putting it in the "Attach file" box???

It takes a while before your image gets posted. That is after the moderators "scanned" them for censorship.

I'm betting it's this one that first surfaced in July of last year:

Now if sony could come out with a T series device with a 640*480 camera and features similar to an NX70V (minus CF slot), then I'd jump on it. As it stands, I'm eyeing the new Garmin iQue 3600.

I think Sony would sell many of these.
You know - this gives me an idea... You ever shop on Amazon.com for a movie you want on DVD, but Amazon pulls up a page that says it has not been released yet but sign up and they will flood the label that produces it to show that there is demand? I have done this a couple of times, and sure enough, eventually the DVD is released.
Now - I know that perhaps the DVD would be released anyway without Amazon's help - but I also understand supply and demand.
I wish there was a way to take this same concept and make it work for a non-clamshell HiRes+ Clie (T-series or whatever). I image if sony got 50,000 "pre-orders" they would be willing to consider it..
Just wishful thinking.
I have 5 friends that own clamshell clie's and every one of them complains that the connection "wiggles" after a while.
No thanks - I'll wait -- I just hope Palm isn't the first one to come out with one.
And I played with an iPaq yesterday - wireless builtin and bluetooth with fingerprint recognition -- all built in.
The ONLY thing I didn't like - the screen is "big", "bright" and "colorful" but it is NOT hires! My 760C looks better with small fonts.
It WAS interesting to surf the net with my wireless hub- a couple of stylus pokes and I was online - that simple!
I want HIRES+ and I want Palm OS and I do NOT want a clamshell design. Sony- please do not make me send my money to Compaq or Palm!!!
Please!

Interesting....the pic you posted HAS the hard buttons below screen....the one on PIC does not appear to have those buttons...I knowit is prob. just marketing goof....but you'd think they would have learned....Who is their editor? ;)
I'm with MikeS16. I'd be glad to pre-order a unit like this.
Unfortunately, the limitations of my monochrome T415 are driving me crazy and I'm having a hard time waiting. I don't like the clamshells but I want all the features (minus the keyboard).
If I don't see Sony come up with a model like this in the next few months I may just switch over to the dark side and get an iPaq.

guys, ..
i'm not a developer or whatsoever, so i have a stupid question regarding to this vg (hi res+ for t665).
i'm just wondering whether some developers could build a driver or whatever programs to make the vg works in the t665, the same way in nr70, since the nr70 and t665 have the same base hardware. Could we just install the "graphiti things" from nr to t665.
I think there is a possibilty to have a hires+ with the t665.
i use the nr for the sake of the hires+ only. actually, i don't like this clamshell design and i have never used the keyboard and also the camera since i have a real 4meg digicam.
any inputs?

Do you want a virtual grafitti on top of a built-in grafitti on T665?
Why? :(

I'm aware of that. Still drooling though.......like drooling over a picture of an airbrushed model. I know I can't have it and it's not real, but I can dream! :D

I'm in the same boat, I have a T415 and want Hi-res+ but not in a clamshell. I have a feeling I will go with the Garmin iQue even though I don't need GPS.

Trust me, people from Sony from here and Japan read boards like this. They are aware of your desires. If there is a practical way of making what you want, I'm pretty sure they will do it.
However, I'm concerned it will be larger than you expect. That big screen takes up a lot of power. This means the batteries in the NX series and NZ need to be quite large. Would you be happy with a VG Clie if it were close to the size of an NR series but without the clamshell?

Obsessive PDA geeky conspiracy theorists might theorize that SONY is playing with us by sending out this tease (pae's posted photo). More practically minded people think this is just a mistake of some graphic artist that was missed by an editor, both of whom not being that familiar with models currently offerred by SONY.
Either way, applying Anselm's ontological argument for the existence of that than which greater cannot be imagined, one might be inclined to believe in the existence of the this dream machine, which, of course, would not have any battery life issues ...
Would that PDAs were more like medieval theology!

I am sold. If the Garmin unit has at least 16mb, has the option for an expandable SD card or the like and can play MP3's I will purchase this device.
Sony has a short amount of time to sway me in their direction and therby getting their hands on my money.
I have a feeling a LOT of people will buy the Garmin unit. For the price WITHOUT the GPS capabilities it would be worth $589 - I think this is a good value.
This could be the end of my affair with the Sony Clie.
Garmin here I come!

There was an article in the new york times recently saying that sony researches 1500 products per year.
Obviously they make a lot of stuff beside pda's but I would be amazed if a virtual graffiti t series isn't in amongst there.
Back a while at a sony product showcase of some sort in japan they had a long screen pda with no bottom and 2 memory sticks... one of which had a scroll wheel memory stick in it...
maybe they are trying to cover all bases (NX, NZ, TG) before they release the killer pda of all time!

They came out with replaceable batteries! Make them cheaper then $80 and give us our T665 with hires+. That's what I want although I'd rather wait for OS6 to get it. But with that kind of battery, you'd keep the same body size with more features!! Add another memory stick slot and you have a real PDA-not a PDA trying to be a camera and keyboard in one. (we all know how that turned out, lol)

Wireless! Wireless! Wireless!
If I had this, VG, and replaceable batteries, I'd sacrifice a little size.

See how they could keep that replaceable battery idea and save huge amounts of space. Take off the camera, since most people don't need it that much, and those that do go and buy a nice one. Add 2 memory stick slots that use the new or old memory sticks, and VG. See, everyone can be happy.

Yes... I realize that the T415 is just about the thinnest PDA around and I've adjusted myself to the fact that I'm going to have to settle with something thicker.
I would imagine, though, that if it had the same electronics as the NR series but without the keyboard and the two outer layers between the two halves of the shell, that the result would be acceptably thin.
(Actually something a little stiffer would probably be a good idea -- I've already dropped my Clie enough that it doesn't lay flat on a table without rocking a little bit when I write. I'm planning on dropping it in the other direction until I can straighten it out. :) )

Anyone think a T series with virtual graffiti is likely within the next 6 months, before I breakdown and buy an NR 70?
I think a T series with VG is a lot closer than you think. The Garmin IQUE is exactly what many of us want, we just want it in a sony. It does have GPS which many of us don't need, but for less than $600 the GPS feature is like a bonus. Anyway, I don't think sony is going to watch Garmin sell the IQUE without putting out a similar model at around the same time.

Good question. Does anybody know anything? SONY is notoriously tight lipped, but a rep from SonyStyle on Friday recommended to me that I wait a little longer before buying a Tungsten T.
I'm willing to go a little bit larger for a SONY VG screen but not so large as an N-series. It also sounds like the Garmin is rather large. Will need to handle it in person.
