it seems to get me 3 to 4 times my battery life, i can't tell as i haven't had a full 12 hours to test, but it's good.
i kinda wish it didn't require to be in the cradle to charge, when traveling it would be good not to have to bring the cradle just to charge and plug/charge directly through the battery.

I am lookign to buy the battery too but I was wondering if it adds too much bulk onto the clie. I would be nice to have when im sitting in a 3 hour class and dont have to worry about killing my battery playing warfare inc.

it basically like the cradle, adds the same amount of bulk as that.

Great pictures. Looks very nicely integrated with the main unit.
Please let us know what the battery life is like once you've had a chace to play with it.
I'm hoping to get mine soon. (although it looks like FedEx might have delivered it to a homeless person... ) Heh heh.

Can you charge the battery in the cradle or does it have to be attached to the Clie?

it needs to be in the cradle, but does not need to be attached to the clie.

pt, I have a couple questions before I drop my $90 on the battery.
(1) Can you use your UX without the extended battery and then when the main battery is low add the extended battery and have the additonal capacity? What does the battery gage show in this situation?
(2) When the extended battery is on your device is it consumed before the internal battery so you could use up the extended battery and then drop it in the charger while you still use your device with the internal battery?
(3) Does the extended battery just snap into place or is there some type of mechanism to release it? The cradle flops open on one side and I was curious how the battery is attached.

1. yes, once you pop the external in- that's what it uses. the clie showed it was charging when i did that. i need to see what and where it shows how much is left on the external. i think it jsut gives a percent in the battery monitor.
2. yep.
3. it snaps and slides over, and then locks. it's very secure and won't come off.

WATCH OUT FOR THIS ONE!!!
"When the extended battery is on your device is it consumed before the internal battery so you could use up the extended battery and then drop it in the charger while you still use your device with the internal"
If you use the Internal battery first and then snap on the External on, your in for a surprise - A BIG ONE!!! The UX-50 will see the battery as the charger and you can't use the BT or WiFi until the internal battery gets back to at least 10%. So rule of thumb, leave the thing connected and remove the spare to charge otherwise your in trouble if you use the wireless a lot.

i don't think that's the way it works...i'm pretty sure if you use your clie without the external battery and then pop in on later, it will simply use the external battery and wifi/bt will work fine.
i'm testing today.

Sorry to say that I tried this and the internal battery thinks it's in the
charger, and shows that the internal battery is now charging so this is
the case. The instructions with the battery say the same thing as some
services will not work because the the internal battery is almost dead.
So clipping on the external battery has to charge the internal for the
wireless items to come back to life. That's why the Battery instructions
says that you would have to leave the UX-50 off for a while before some
services become avail again.

I was looking at some other pictures of the extended battery and found that yours was a different color. The ones that I saw were whiteish-greym and yours is blackish-grey and honestly I love the color!!!

Dude, I just came back from a Sony shop and they showed me the external battery and it was of a different color, it was whitish. But from the pics that I see, it seems that it is Blackish grey!!! Can you please get back to me about this? Where did you get it?

Jus got my extended battery today and the battery is the same color as the cradle.
Also, it comes with a cool dark grey pouch... didn't expect that.
I also got my brando case which is very cool.
Cheers,
