It happened to me today - it wouldn't warm reset (hold UP) either ... I was messing with quite a bit of hacks and launchers, though ...

My only recourse was to hard reset and resynchronize my data ...

The only thing you can do is hold in the reset button for 30 seconds or more, and once you get the "erase all data" message is to push the up button for Yes. Once you do this, it should power back up to the main intitialization screen. From there you need to do a resynch and you should be back in business.

It's a lame weakness of Palm OS - don't hold it against the Clie - my Palm V did the same thing.

Umm, no - to do a hard reset a heck of a lot quicker, hold down the power switch when pressing Reset, and release it once you get the "Palm Powered" logo. Then, you'll get the "Erase All Data ..." screen - just like a Palm V.

I was thinking ... what were you doing when you started the reset chain? Sometimes, you can do the Warm Reset I mentioned (hold UP while pressing reset) - it prevents startup apps from running ... it can help if it'll work.
