Am I crazy or is the built-in 29meg treated more like a Compact Flash card than a Memory Stick card?

Why?

- on "send to handheld" for Palm Desktop (Mac v. 4) you can choose CompactFlash

- in the Sony multi-media apps, the icons representing the built-in memory is a blue square super-imposed on the ux50, whereas the MSPro that I have is a regular blue stick-of-gum

Could the UX50 be treating this internal ram like a CF card in one of the NR/Z series, rather than a true MS Pro card?

- When I move things to MS from ZLauncher, they always go to the MSPro rather than the built-in 29Meg thingie

?!?

Well -- being that you can play MP3's off the internal media memory, I'd say it's being treated like a Memory Stick.

That's one of the things I understand you can't do with a CF Card on a Clie.

I haven't played with ZLauncher yet. I use YiShow -- it's really customizable. FileZ's seems to be able to tell the difference and let you select between internal and external memory stick.

I'm actually more inclined to think of it as a partitioned drive than as a CF card. You can sync to it and even run apps out of it. It doesn't show up in Data Export as a drive at all.

I agree with whoever is behind this unregistered post even though he is unregistered and I dislike him.

Actually, the internal memory does show up in Data Export. It depends on which media you select before connecting to the PC via the Clie using Data Import (MS or Int. Media).

No matter how you look at it, it confuses some applications. For example, Repligo 1.3 (http://www.cerience.com/products/palm/index.htm) sees files on the Int. Media until you insert a Memory Stick. Then, it ignores anything on Int. Media. The same goes for Documents To Go 6.004 (http://www.dataviz.com/products/documentstogo/index.html). I am sure these issues will be addressed in future versions, especially with some of the new devices supporting dual media (i.e. Sony Clie UX and Tapwave Zodiac). Time will tell...

It depends on what you mean.

The "Internal Media" (30MB, 1MB used) is built on top of the NAND flash. It is neither a memory stick (standard or pro) nor a compact flash.

It acts like a unique mix of them all.

Speed wise it is similar to an MS Pro stick, or fast CF stick.
http://www.cliesource.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=25950

Functionality wise, it is like an old style memory stick or CF card in that it does not support Magic Gate.

The volume is marked as a new unique media type ('Tffs') not as a memory stick ('mstk') or Compact Flash ('cfsh'). This is why some of the old "Banned Apps" will not detect it [they only work with 'mstk' volumes]

Bottom line, it is a mix, and in some ways the best of most worlds.
The bigger problem is that many 3rd party apps don't support more than one VFS volume [the problem with the CF driver on the NX/NZ as well]. This is being remedied over time.
