Listed below are some common problems and highlights:

(combined for future reference)

The primary pc name has to be !!(double exclamaition points) only!

Only works with the long preamble.

The Sony PEGA-WL100 is the ONLY card that works!

Use static/manual settings for IP and DNS addresses

Leave power save unchecked

Use infrastucture mode when on a LAN, even for the wireless HotSync

May not necessarily work on all Wireless Access Points, does work with Linksys, Dlink, Apple's Airport, and some others.

You can use an SSID of ANY.

Windows XP firewall can block a wireless HotSync.

First step is to get to connect with the LAN, then try to get the WAN side to work(gateway and DNS addressing)

Right click on the HotSync Manager Icon in the PC's system tray and select network as a valid HotSync method in addition to Local USB.

Lots of patience...

The following info was supplied by Xaositek:

network = ; wireless lan
go to details
if you havent added a profile do so now.

ProfileName: (whatever)
Network ID (SSID): Any (case sensitive)

Go to advanced setup and turn off "PowerSaveMode""

Go to your hotsync program
go to menu
"Modem Sync"
set to "Network"
under LANSync, make sure its set to LANSync

Primary PC Setup
Primary PC Name: !! ;-- another must have this way
Primary PC Address: (the IP address of the computer to hotsync too)
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 (unless different from Admin)

Click ok

Go to the main hotsync screen
Click on the "Modem" box
then choice your network as "Wireless LAN"
DO NOT ENTER A PHONE NUMBER

"....The Sony PEGA-WL100 is the only card that works...."

The only card that you can use for wireless hotsync or the only card that'll work in general for wireless on an NX? The Sony is about 50-100% more expensive. :(

I searched around to answer this but am requesting specific confirmation or not.

Thank you,
Frank

It's the only card that works on the NX in general

I have had no problems using DHCP with the wireless card. I use a LinkSys AP, and a NetGear Firewall Router.

I also have had no problems using the device with Power Save enabled. I am able to use it throughout my house (which is a large two-story, about 4000sf).

I appreciate the hint on using the !! for the Primary PC. Sony notes in it's manual (p33) that you might need to delete the Primary PC name if it won't sync. It would then read the Host anme, and enter it in itself. I would have to erase it ever time I synced, but no more ! Thanks, Larry.

The actual setting of the SSID will also depend on how your WAP is set up. Mine is set to NOT broadcast the SSID, so I *must* enter mine into the Sony. I don't broadcast it because my other WiFi cards' WEP system isn't compatible with the WAP's, so I don't use any WEP.

I am using this to sync with a Windows XP on the LAN.

Okay, now my question: what can I do to access/manipulate my files on the desktop? What software do I need? Any suggestions?

Here are two: Win-Hand or PalmVNC, I prefer Win-Hand both are free, but Win-Hand has no security on the free version.

http://www.win-hand.com/menu.htm

http://www.btinternet.com/~harakan/PalmVNC/

I have my WEP Key setup on everything to 128 bit hex, SSID is my last name.

I use the Linksys WAP11 and the Linksys 4-port Ethernet Router/Switch.

With power save checked neither Clie will work, no matter how hard we tried. It can also slow down the connection speed big time!

Everything was set manually to prevent clashes with the wired and wireless. There are at least 8 computers and two brothers in a two story house :) I assigned him a block of IP's and some for myself.

Hmm, 4,000sq ft is rather large  ;)

I also use the WAP11, but the older version. I bought three WiFi cards on ebay for $34 each. (Enterasys Networks RoamAbout). The all work fine, except for the WEP issue. I've discovered that without the SSID, you can't even see the WAP, and so cannot logon. My small form of protection until I get around to buying an up-to-date system.

I have three wireless laptops, two print servers, and four desktops. The NetGear acts as the DHCP server, and provides the gateway/firewall to the cable modem. Everybody seems to be happy....so far.

(4000sf isn't near large enough ;) )

Thanks for the links, Larry; I'll try them out.

OMIGAWD! The Win-Hand is absolutely perfect! It works on my LAN, supports hi-res (though not full-screen), and it actually was easy to intall. And it's free. (I actually posted this via my NX!) Who needs NetFarce, or whatever it was that Sony was pushing. This takes up only a very small footprint, and I can do anything. Sure, it's limited in refresh, but so what? Thanks, Larry. I owe you one. ;)

I have a Linksys Wireless Access Point Router and a home network.
Connected wirelessly I have a Ipaq 3975, and an Imac, both work fine. I also have a Sony Desktop wired.
I recently purchased a NX70V and the wireless card from Sony.

I cannot seem to be able to surf with this Clie machine.

I connect or it seems that I connect but cannot get any pages to show up.

These are my settings:

Service: Wireless Lan
details...
Profile Name: Avi
Network ID (SSID) linksys
WEP: None

INFRASTRUCTURE

I manually input the IP Address

I turned off the Power Save Mode

It seems like it connects but nothing seems to happen. Then I get a network timeout.

I can ping the PDA from my Sony computer.

Please help me to connect with this Clie.

Thx

:)

Did you enter your ISP's DNS's?

The gateway is the router's IP address

Make sure the IP isn't clashing with your other PC's

I can't rename the Primary PC in the HotSync setup, does this mean I need to rename the computer to " !! " on the network???

That's crazy and unacceptable!

...but is it true?

You DO need to rename the Primary to !! on your Clie, but you do NOT need to rename the actual PC on the Network! I did NOTHING to my PC that I hot sync to other than activate the Network option in addition to the USB option in the Hot Sync Manager. It still has the same name as before. It is the Primary PC Address that is important. The Clie and the PC must match.

Ditto, I too have followed ALL of the guidance here to sync using my WiFi card with my NZ90 but to no avail?

I have no problems with getting online or using my e-mail with WiFi though.

Any and all help would be appreciated!!!

Just waiting impaitently for my 17" AI Powerbook to arrive so I can replace my 15" TI Powerbook...

But thanks, I wholeheartedly agree! That's why I switched from Windows last Janary (2002) and haven't looked back since, I was just waiting for a really decent Bluetooth Palm OS5 PDA to appear to complete the package.

Too bad Steve hasn't let an Apple PDA out of the gate as yet, but this is pretty damn close in MHO!

Larry,

I can wireless hotsync to RAM.
Wired hotsync to memory sticks works fine too.
But I can't wireless hotsync to memory stick.

I keep getting timeout errors and the PDBs got corrupted.

I don't believe it is possible to wirelessly hotsync to MS.

Really? Is it documented?
I guess you can't get yours working too.
Hmmm..... I wonder why...

There is a couple apps that can, one of them is Avantgo Beta 5.0, I don't remember the other one.

Avantgo did work for me, slow, but worked. At the moment that's it, but who knows, things are changing all the time.

For Mac OS X: My understanding is that the capability to HotSync wirelessly does not exist. In the Mac version of the Palm Desktop application, under the HotSync menu. There is no Network item to select. We are left with USB.

It works with MissingSync. I can do a WiFi hotsync (I just tested it now) but normally choose not to because a/ I need to turn my firewall off (and I can't bothered sorting out which port is in use) and b/ the documentation I have read indicates that the information is sent "in the clear" - I'd prefer not to broadcast my calendar and contacts to the world. Perhaps if I set up a VPN?

Anyway, my point is that if wireless hotsync works with MS then it might work without it. Then again, I haven't used Palm Desktop for some time...

Cheers,
Tim
