View Full Version : Tiny image in built-in address book app
I had thought the built-in address book image support would be a good way to just take a picture of all the business cards I get, but even if the picture is high resolution, it seems like I can only access a tiny thumbnail from within the address book application when I click on the image. Anyone know how if there is anyway to store and access a larger image? Are there any 3rd party apps that can do this (using the same addr book database)?

Its really only meant for pictures of people's heads. But you can put any sized pic there, just click on the image and it'll show the whole thing, but I'd make the image 320x480 just to be safe.

In addition, how big a space thus the picture in the address book cover?

The problem is, it doesn't show the whole thing when you click on the image, at least not full size. When I go to the photo viewer, I can see it in full size, but not by clicking on the address book image. Are you able to see it in the same size from the address book as when you use the photo app? That's what I'm trying to do, but it just isn't working.

Hi Rob,
I have the same frustration when I can't see the full screen pictures in the address book. I sometimes put maps from mapquest for my favour restaurants and my friends' places. I just can't figure out the details in the tiny pictures attached. Eventually I have to open it with Splashphoto to get a detail view.
I know EasyAddress is coming out with a new EasyAddress-PhotoEdition soon but still don't have the details yet. I hope it does support the full size pictures. Will keep you posted.
Cheers
Stephen

Related Q:
I've added a number of pics to addresses but now I have somehow stored some pics on the MS.
As a result when I try to add them to the address book it fails - any idea why and how I can fix it? I tried copying the pics to the Clie but that proved impossible with Filez.

The reason you can't move them over with filez is because your pictures are jpegs and your ram only supports palm databases. What you have to do is transfer the pictures to your pc and then use the image converter program and hotsync them on.

Even though they were shot with the Clie? Odd. Thanks I'll convert as suggested.

No above problem for NX80 at all. It show exactly the whole image in thumbnail stylus in address book.:D

The reason why the images cannot be expanded to full screen is that when you select a photo to be included in an addressbook entry, the picture is copied and resize to a small thumbnail which is stored in internal memory about 6K in size. The filename is _AddrImg0001 where is number is incremented with the number of pics you added. Even if you deleted the original jpg file, this thumbnail still exist and since it is only a thumbnail, it cannot be zoomed to full size with all the details you expected.
Thanks for that explanation, Gorto. It's too bad that it doesn't also save a 'link' to the original full-size picture. Clicking on a thumbnail so you can see the thumbnail in the middle of your screen instead of the upper left is stupid. It should link to the original full-size picture if the picture is still on your clie or MS.

Logical explanation.

I guess that's what everyone would expected the address book application should be (that's including myself), it's too bad that SONY programmers are not in the same the frequency as we are. I wish I could attach a file in Clie Memo to Addressbook so that may be I can attach a hand drawn map direction to someones house, etc.

Agreed as I often use the camera to photo a business card or address for later entry and it's useless as a thumbnail. :)
