I earlier posted for info on nx80. Thanks to everybody who helped. People seem to be very nice here. I will get my nx80v in about one hour.
The first program I will need is a good PIM. which is the best one? If convenient give links.
My PIM should have filter by field and find/search. sort. Should take 3000 names, addresses, phones. should be fast.
To Do-list view, detail view, 5-10 priorities, sort.
Calender- different views-list,day,week,month,year.
Good sync.
convert to text files, if possible.
Print if possible.

Later I need good database, word, excel. with printing.Sync to MS Office
Presently I have canon BJC55 printer.

I will register on this forum as soon I get my pda.
Thanks

I highly recommend DateBk5. You can read about it here (http://www.pimlicosoftware.com/). There's also a terrific Yahoo group that offers outstanding support for new users. It syncs with Palm Desktop, so you have your printing options via that route. Regarding addresses - it interfaces with the built in address book, so the only limitations you have are the ones inherent to Palm OS.

Somebody's bound to suggest Agendus eventually, and while it's a very 'pretty' program, the support is seriously lacking, and I DO NOT recommend it for 'newbies'.

LOL...I'll be somebody! ;)
The trial version of Agendus comes bundled with the NX73/80v, so you can try it out if you want. Popular concensus is that they have lousy customer support. (I've had good luck with them so far...knock on wood!)

Datebk5 is very nice and (like ZLauncher) the support is very good. Heck the manual is huge...many nights of reading to learn all the features, yet you can jump right into it as soon as it's installed.
I just don't like the way it handles To-Dos compared to Agendus.

To each his/her own...grab trials of both and give em a spin.

For calendar and address book, I highly recommend the combination of DateBk5 (http://www.pimlicosoftware.com/) and Super Names (http://standalone.com/palmos/super_names/), respectively.

For other "must-have apps", check out this thread (http://www.cliesource.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=58&highlight=musthave+apps).

i don't use the PIM apps mentioned so I dont know if they have a decent find feature, however for a really good "find" tool that is PDA-wide I can recommend FindHack http://perso.wanadoo.fr/fpillet/
You can define app sets in which to search, it support wildcard searching, keeps searcg patterns and results in memory, and many more great features.

I'm with hherbzilla, Datebk5 and SuperNames! But it's a very personal choice so you should shop around. Sometimes you find an app that has one feature you just love, that for you makes it more useful than the most powerful/popular app of that kind.

For databases, the two big names are SmartList to Go (formerly ThinkDB) http://www.dataviz.com/products/smartlisttogo/index.html
and HanDBase
http://www.ddhsoftware.com/handbase.html?UID=2003091315124424.215.164.158

I've been a registered user of both for years, and have switched between them as one has gotten better than the other. I've recently gone back to HanDBase because they've added more powerful features and a form designer. My new favorite thing about it is this third-party add-on which just was updated and allows you to take pics with the camera and attach them to your DBs. http://www.palmgear.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=software.showsoftware&sid=0959FAFF-9BC4-41D0-B06642D1C017036A&prodID=45798

If you're looking for a really powerful ToDo app, Shadow is the most advanced. http://www.codejedi.com . It may be overkill, as it's a very complex outliner that I find a bit "much" for quick ToDos. Personally I tend to use Datebk5's built-in ToDos. They're part of your regular Todos, so they still get synced, but when you view them in DB5 you can add other features like alarms and repeating reminders as well as icons and colors and font sizes so you can make stuff really stand out.

Hope that gives you some ideas. Congrats on your new purchase!

I personally prefer agendus, since it has an accompanying desktop "palm enhancement'. It is true that iambic customer support is not great. The only complaint I have with their most recent version -6.14- is that the alarms don't work :(  I am sure there will be a fix sometime...

if you want a colorful and more functional desktop application as well, you should check out agendus.

just my 2 cents....

For an Word and Excel for your handheld, I'd suggest Documents to Go. It's a powerful program that allows you to view and edit Word douments, Excel spreadsheets and Powerpoint presentations. It also allows you to view pdf files.

I does sync with documents on your desktop, and without any loss in formatting. For example, I had a word document which contained tables and the works. When I copied it onto my handheld, Documents to go displayed it exactly the same as my desktop, without any loss in formatting.

Definitely a must have if you use a lot of Ms Office.

I like Datebk, but my schedule revolves around my contacts so for my situation Agendus serves me best.

I use Agendus Pro and have had no problems whatsoever with with support.
