Ok, so the subject line wasn't long enough. What I am trying to do is to access the internet through my laptop via Bluetooth. I know it has to be something easy? Any suggestions? All equipment works......

Yep. I think its pretty standard that when you install a bluetooth dongle you get a "bluetooth network neighborhood" icon on the desktop. So then all you have to do is enable internet sharing on the origonal network connection that your computer uses (ie: network neighborhood). Also on your clie you have to set up a new network that uses the bluetooth protocol (don't enter a name and password in the fields).
But before you worry about that, have you added your laptop as a trusted device on your clie? You naturally have to do that before proceeding.
If any of this comes through as garbled and confusing, ask more questions here.

Thanks for responding rob_squared! To answer your questions, first I am using Windows XP, i went to "all connections", pulled up properties, but I don't know where to go to access "internet sharing".
I did go into prefs on my clie and created a new network using BT as the protocol with no names in the fields. I do get an Error: PPP timeout (0x1231) on the clie screen when I try to connect. Nothing shows up on the laptop screen that anything is incoming (I don't know if it would anyhow).
I do have my laptop listed on the clie as a trusted device and vice-versa on the laptop about the clie.
I hope this make sense to you. I'm still just a beginner at this and any other help is greatly appreciated!!

1. Create an internet connection sharing on your WXP using the Network setup wizard. after the setup finished, check wether your bluetooth device have an IP address (usually 192.168.0.1)
2. Pair your clie with XP (pref->bluetooth->trusted devices).
3. Create a new connection that connect to local network via bluetooth to youe XP on your clie
4. In the network tab create new service with NO user/pass and select the connection you just made in stage 3
5. Enter to the service details, change idle time to "never".
6. If your provider require you to enter a DNS in your XP, the same DNS should enter to the clie. No IP address is needed.
7. Press the connect button in clie, and it should establish a connection with your XP via bluetooth.
8. If it doesn't work, try to change in stage 3 to connect to PC
insted of local network.
9. Now you can hotsync via bluetooth too. just check which serial port in the XP is assin to recive (not send), and configure it in the hotsync manager.
10 Good Luck.

thanks for your reply golalmo, ok i have no problem hotsyncing through BT. i just can't get PocketLink 2 (the web browser that i'm using) to access the internet through my laptop. i can browse through by t68i.
Also, when i do attempt to connect, the program that i got with the BT dongle shows that it is reading from my nx70.
Still i get the message "Error:PPP timeout (0x1231)"
Any other suggestions? I really am trying....i promise!

Ahh, I will have to defer to someone else to answer your questions because I run 2K because XP didn't support some of the hardware I wanted it too. Golalmo seems more than competent in this area though.

In windows 2K you can make a simple internet connection sharing.
Just eneter the properties of you NIC and under "sharing" tab you'll be able to you can check "enable internet connection sharing" via bluetooth.
Disable any firewalls runnig of your PC.
I must say that it didn't work for me either at the begining, but someone advice me to re-install the bluetooth driver on PC, and that solved the problem.

To MeisterMan:
from time to time I have the same problem: getting a PPP error.
i can solve it by giving an IP address to MS-BT on clie (usually 192.168.0.2)

So you donīt need Mocha to make it happen, right?
I am asking it because i saw a review by The-Gadgeteer on a USB BT module and to be able to connect to a Palm TT to a desktop she had to install Mocha.
See review: http://www.the-gadgeteer.com/mitsumi-usb-bluetooth-review.html

As far as I can understand, mocha ppp was ment for user without ICS (internet connection sharing), like Win 98/ME.
You can use mppp in 2000/xp (which have ics) but you really don't need it.
mppp allow the user to use the serial port for inc.
bluetooth ms doesn't use this methood, but creating a pan (privet area networking), same as wifi, of 2 pc connected with rj45.

You need Mocha with the Tungsten-T because it's Bluetooth is f*cked up and doesn't work right (the TT will crash and restart if you try and use the network connection, so you must use serial).
The Clie works fine with ICS. No Mocha is needed. In fact, the Clie with MSB1 is the easiest and most compatible Bluetooth I've tried yet. Better than TT, better than PPC. It links to everything I need to easily.

thanks for all of the info golalmo. i just got back into town, i'm going to try the IP address idea today.
i can tell that i am way behind the times when i comes to the knowledge of the GeekGod (i'm not worthy, i'm not worthy, hahaha). Thank you too!
i'll let all of you know, later

Okay, I've been meaning to post a long message about getting this all working. I had done it before, but it was lost on "black monday" (the database crash), and I've been too lazy to type it all up again. But I guess it's time...
I'm pretty tired tonight, but I'll try and crank this out. If any of it seems incomplete or incoherent, just yell, and I'll try and correct it. So here's the deal...
The least expensive way to sync and surf with your Clie+Bluetooth MS and computer is with one of those USB "dongle" type Bluetooth adapters (about $50). There are BT Access Points available, but they are "Holy crap! You've got to be kidding!" expensive right now.
The adapter I use is the IOGear GBU301. It is Class-1 (the most powerful with a theoretical 330 foot/100 meter range). I have also done this with the Class-3 Linksys USB adapter (10 meter range), and using the built-in Bluetooth on one of the MSI motherboards. Note that while the GBU301 is Class-1, the PEGA-MSB1 Bluetooth Memory Stick is not (it's Class-3, so don't expect that 100 meter range with your Clie - it ain't gonna happen).
For the sake of brevity, I'm gonna assume your computer is working properly, and you had no trouble installing your BT dongle.
I'll also assume you got the MSB1 Bluetooth Memory Stick installed okay. Er... uh, maybe I shouldn't assume that, since the installation CD for the MSB1 is in Japanese. Okay, so I'll briefly go over what you need to do to install the MSB1. First and formost, you will need access to a Windows XP, or Windows 2000 machine, because Windows 98 won't be able to read the CD correclty (it will show you the files, but won't let you copy them).
Pop the CD in the drive, and like all good little CDs it will autorun and show you a criptic screen all in Japanese. Click on the left blue button on the bottom to exit, and open the CD by right-clicking on the CD in "My Computer" and selecting Open.
Open the "Clie Applications" folder, and the folder who's name starts with MSB1 (and a bunch a Japanese characters after that). There will be 14 files in there, 5 of which have names ending with "_jpJP" which are the Japanese files (the ones you DON'T want). The other nine files are the drivers and English control files. Copy those files to a folder on your hard drive, or on to a Memory Stick if you are using someone else's computer to get the files. You may then copy or sync them into your Clie's memory. And you will have to perform a reset after to activate the drivers.
That was easy, wasn't it? After copying/syncing and resetting, you should be able to plug in your MSB1 stick (if you haven't already) and the little blue light should turn on. Under Prefs you will now have a "Bluetooth" entry, and this is where we'll begin...
Make sure Bluetooth is Enabled, and the little blue light is on (allow device to be discovered should also be set to yes, for now).
If you want to change your device name, tap on the field and enter the new name.
Tap on [Trusted Devices] and then [Add Device] and the MSB1 will begin searching for other BT devices. It should find your computer. If it doesn't, make sure your computer can be discovered as well. After you find and select your computer, you will be asked for a security key. Enter anything you want for a key and tap [Done].
Now look at your computer. The little Bluetooth icon on your task bar will be blinking. Click on it and your computer will ask you for a key as well. Enter the same key you entered above, and your Clie and computer will be "Paired" and ready to communicate.
Now go to Connection in your Prefs settings, and tap on [New]. Name your new connection "Bluetooth MS" (or Bob, or Spot, or anything you like), then make the following settings:
Connect to: PC (can also be Local Network - either should work)
Via: Bluetooth
Device: [tap here to find your computer]
Tap on [Details]
Speed: 115,200 bps
Flow Ctl: Automatic
Now tap [OK] and [OK] and you'll be back in your Connection pref setting with your new connection.
Now go to your Network setting in Prefs and open the menu and select New.
Name the new Service "Bluetooth to PC" or "BT2PC" if you're into geeky acronims, or "Trent" if you're into NIN (but that won't be as intuitive...)
Leave User Name and Password blank.
Connection: "Bluetooth MS" (or Bob or Spot - whatever you named it in the previous step.)
Tap on [Details]
Connection Type: PPP
Idle timeout: Never (or pick a time if you want one)
Query DNS: [X] (checked)
IP Address: [X] Automatic (checked)
Tap on [Script] and make sure only End: is there.
Tap [OK] and [OK] and you're back in Network prefs with "Trent" er... I mean, "Bluetooth to PC".
That's it! You are ready to rock and roll. Pretty simple, eh? Okay, it would have been simple if I had more sleep and could've explained it better, but like I said, I'll try and fix it later.
Tap on [Connect], and if I haven't confused the sh!t out of you, your Clie should connect to your computer.
What do you mean it didn't work? Oh, crap! I forgot to tell you how to set up the computer side. Okay, you need to turn on ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) for whatever network adapter you use to access the Internet. How that is done should be outlined in your USB dongle's manual, or you can use Windows Help to set it up.
Got it?
Okay, now tap [Connect] on your Clie. Got it? Good.
Now you can run your favorite chat client or browser. For OS4 I reccomend Xiino. It's very stable and capable. If you want a freebe, try Blazer. It's pretty good as well. Netspring is crap. And Pocket Link would be cool, if it didn't friggen lock up all the time [ARGHH!].
That's all for now. Time for bed...
Huh? What's that? What about Hotsyncing? Why would you want to sync through a slow-as$ serial connection? Because you can? Um, okay... check your BT dongle's configuration to see what serial port it is using, then activate serial sync in the hotsync manager on your 'puter and set it to that port (you can still leave USB sync enabled as well). Then, from the Hotsync app on your Clie, choose Bluetooth MS (Bob, Spot) instead of Cradle/Cable. That otta do it.
Aloha, Tim (GeekGod)
PS: Windows 98 will have problems connecting. Sometimes you can just attempt to connect again and it will work. And sometimes it won't work at all, and you will need to use something like Mocha PPP. If anyone is actually still using 98 and needs that info, ask and I'll post it later.
Okay, now I'm really going to bed.
... no kidding, really, I'm going.
Good night.

Great thread.
Just one thing that might help you to connect, if you still can't:
Try enable "guest" user under "users and groups".

One comment:
The Mitsumi USB dongle that I got from Brando DOES NOT come with Widcomm software; the Mitsumi sw suite is crappy and you cannot create a network connection for BT. I ended up having to install Mocha PPP to make it work.
If you decide to buy the Mitsumi dongle, buy it directly from the Mitsumi USA site. Now it comes with the Widcomm sw, which automatically creates the connection.

please help !! i've read all of the threads related to bluetooth connectivity with the PC/laptop, but i still can't share ICS with my palm!
hehe forgive me cuz i'm not a clie user (I WILL BE SOON THO) but i know your forums have more useful information i can obtain (rather than PIC)...
I'm using a palm m505 with the bluetooth SD card.. for my PC i use billionton bluetooth USB adapter that comes with Widcomm software. The installation of the USB dongle is fine, I can hotsync with it (like most people can). But i STILL can't access the network.
I read some of your posts and some of you suggested to enable ICS from your LAN connection. Currently I'm on a Network with a Linksys Wireless Access Point Router, which is hooked up to a aDSL modem connection.
Since my PC is on a network (wired), when i go to my LAN connection properties and enable ICS, windows would display a message telling me that enabling would change my ip address to 192.168.0.1 or sth like that, and you may lose connection with other computers, etc.
So i pressed ok, and the result is I lost my connection to the internet on my PC ! I tried to connect to my PC with my Palm using bluetooth, and the same PPP timeout is displayed.
Any ideas? please help! thank you so much!!!!!!

ok nvm i finally got it to work.
NOTE: when ppl mention to enable the internet connection sharing (ICS), you enable it IN YOUR LOCAL AREA CONNECTION, NOT THE BLUETOOTH CONNECTION. After enabling it the bluetooth connection will automatcially change the ip address to 192.168.0.1, and follow geekgod's directions and everything will be fine.

Yes, I said, "Okay, you need to turn on ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) for whatever network adapter you use to access the Internet."
Does your PC use the BT dongle to access the internet? No.
For people with broadband it will be the Ethernet adapter. For people with dial-up it will be the Dial-Up adapter.

GeekGod,
You mentioned about activating the ICS on network adapter...
I have several icons in my XP Network Connections,
1) Broadband: WAN Miniport (PPOE)
2) Local Area Connection: D-Link DFE-530TX PCI Fast Ethe...
3) Bluetooth Network: Bluetooth LAN Acccess Server
4) 1394 Connection
So which one do I have to activate the ICS? I suppose it's either 1) or 2)?
What about 3)? Do I need to configure it?
Thanks.

I enabled the ICS on my ethernet adapter. Still couldn't connect...
Do I need to specify IP or DNS in both PC and Clie?
On my PC (running XP Pro), the BT network has IP 192.168.0.1 and subnet 255.255.255.0.
DNS Server is empty.

Still Fail to Access Internet through Bluetooth
It's been a while since the last time I tried to connect to Internet thru BT...but failed. :-(
I've followed all instructions from GeekGod. Configuring the Clie side seems to be prettly straightforward. But I'm not sure if I did the right thing on the PC side.

As I mentioned previously, I can't use Mocha coz my BT serial port start from 9 & above while Mocha could only support up to COM 8.

your BT coms should start imediately following your physical com ports. For example, if you have two physical serial ports, COM1 and COM2, your BT serials should begin at COM3-...... check this in your device manager. If this is not the case, uninstall your BT software, remove any unnessesary COM ports, and reinstall.
