Ok, I am either incredibly stupid or you guys are all Mensa members, but I just cannot figure out this darn conversion stuff. I have a T665C. I have a 74.8mb .mov file (Scooby Doo) that I want to convert. I attempted to do it with the default settings in Kinoma for a T665C. The .pdb file that resulted was over 200mb -- nearly 3 times the size of the original file! What am I doing wrong? What settings should I tweak to get a smaller, yet decent movie. And most of all, why is the .pbd file sooo darm large? Help! At this point I am turning homicidal! Thanks in advance.

To encode full length movie you need to use LOW data rates. Use 160K for video, and if it still won't fit, try 16.5K mono audio as well.
The default settings are for rendering high quality, but that makes for very large files.

Oh, and use half the original frame rate (12 FPS for 24 FPS movies, or 15 FPS for 30 FPS NTSC video content). If the movie is still too large, cut that to 1/3rd (8/10).
You can fit about 90 minutes at pretty good quality on a 128MB Memory Stick. More than that requires you to really cut the quality to crap. I usually cut off the credits at the end of the movie to save space (and sometimes the beginning as well).
Of course, you can always split a movie across 2 sticks.
Hope that helps.

Ok first off you must realize that those files that you're trying to convert are ment for the NX...they're MQV files renamed to MOV. They use the new MPEG4 compression so when you try to convert it with Kinoma it will NOT fit onto a memory stick. I used low quality in the Image Converter (which calculates all the bit rate stuff etc. but with different results...some desireable some not).
What you'll need to do is go through the original file (MPEG File...I streamed it from my Sat TV into my ATI All-in-Wonder) which was 600mb, and start playing with bit rates, frame rates, etc...
I guess that's the short answer, Kinoma is a b*tch when you want to try to compress a movie down...not to mention the quality would be worse off then that MQV fle that you got.
BTW: This holds true for all the Links I provided on the Clie Flix thread!

PS: This is not to say that it can't be done...it's just a heck of a lot of playing around...basically ALOT of work.
Cheers!

Actually, I downloaded some of the movies from your link, and the quality was pretty bad. Not meant as a dis, just an observation. The quality I get from Kinoma is much better.

Of course, converting from an already poor source would result in an even worse movie, so using those MQV files as a source for Kinoma would result in complete crap.

Well the question has been how to get an entire movie on a memory stick...
For the NX there are 3 options with Image Converter 1) High Quality = 30mins 2) Standard Quality = 60mins 3) Long Quality = 120mins.
These are all encoded in LQ (Long Quality) and therefore the quality suffers. Some turn out better than others. The ideas of these was if you only had one memory stick you could do these movies.
If I go for the High Quality which blows Kinoma out of the water you'd need 4 memory sticks, or 2 in Standard Quality.
I know all about kinoma and now it has lots of potential (and the only option if you're not an NX/NZ/T|T)
I think kinoma shines on small flix ... because the full movies, the file gets out of hand (if you're trying to achive the same quality of the small flix)
Cheers!
Which would be better quality for file size then, to go with the kinoma format or mov/mvq format? (providing u have an NX/NZ)

Yipee! Thank you GeekGod. I re-did the settings as per your suggestion and right now I am sitting here watching A Bug's Life. Final file size was 115 mb. Quality is not horrible. Actually, I'm quite pleased. However, my expectations may be low. I figured if I wanted to watch real quality I would just turn on my DVD player. Thanks again.
