I was reading a thread where some people were changing their NZ90s for the UX50......
Iīm planning on buying a NZ90 (or was?), but since the UX50 is coming, right now I donīt really know what to do! One problem is I donīt live in the US and I havenīt seen the NZ90 nor the UX50.....and I always take my decisions on a comment-review, basis. Iīm afraid of the many comments on the size of the NZ90, but also that it has a big screen! the other thing is that the NZ90 allows CF and MS. A 512 Compact Flash would be cheaper to get, than a 512 MS! As for the pics on both cameras, I really donīt see much difference (I know.. one is 0.3MPX, the other 2MPX)...donīt know if its just my appreciation......or if Sony enhanced something from the NZ to the UX.....
I travel a lot so, aside from the usual-PDA-things, Iīm planning on using it for gaming (great on long waits in airports and while flying), MP3s and taking pictures. But donīt want to start leaving (as some have done) an expensive PDA home just because it wonīt fit anywhere!!
Any advice?

The keyboard is probably the main difference. Do you need a nice one?

Nice one? well, that is not a big issue, I know the UXīs is backlit and somehow a better layout...but I could live with the NZīs.

I'd go to the store and compare them... biggest differences are size of the unit, size of the screen, and the aspect of the screen.
The NZ is faster, bigger, heavier, has cf slot.
The UX is smaller, lighter, cuter, and wifi is built in.
You can also read all the threads here on this subject... that will save you a lot of time...

Canīt go to the corner "store".....:( donīt live in the US.....
Anyway when you say faster.....means that applications run faster on the NZ........

UX be good for your travel needs. While you wait at the airports, you can surf the web or check your emails while you listen to your mp3's. I have the NZ90 and right now, its slowly gathering dust as the UX is my lil pocket occupant now :). NZ is great for the big and bright screen, but love the compact of the UX plust the widescreen :).....just need more companys to take advantage of the widescreen to use.....

I'm one of those users you're speaking about. While indeed I am migrating to the UX50 from the NZ90, I must say that the ONLY two things I like better about the UX are it's smaller form factor and it's keyboard.
The NZ seems like a big screen TV when compared to the UX's tiny little text and screen real estate. It's a shame they couldn't (or choose not to until the next iteration) put a larger screen on the UX considering all the waasted frame space. I'll take bets that the next version (sometime early next year likely) will see an increase in the screen. I truly have had some difficluites reading text on screen whereas I've never squinted using the NZ's beautiful hi-res+ screen.
As for keyboards, I generally used Graffiti on my NZ as where I seem to default more to the keyboard on the UX. Backlit keys are nice, but since you cannot see the shift/ctrl keys that are printed on the metal anyway when it's dark, the lighting is somewhat less than useful. Just the same, the UX keybaord is much more servicable than the one on the UX.
Picture wise you can't compare them! The NZ90 is a "Real" camera that you can use to make decent 5X7 blowups from. The UX-50 is only good for fun pix, but nothing you would ever want to keep (except perhaps for web site use). Plus the NZ has a flash so night time pictures are possible!
Storage is clearly a winner on the NZ with the Compact Flash! I had a 1Gig CF in mine and had LOT's of music to keep with me and still had my 128k Memory Stick for other things like programs and pictures!
Don't misunderstand, I love the new UX (except for the screen being a bit too small to be useful at times like when web surfing) and will most likely be using it as I need a highly portable suit breast pocketable PDA. Just the same, if traveling I might just as well prefer the NZ. Why, becasue you're already probably carrying a lot of stuff and if you have a heavy jacket, brief case, or carry on bag, the size difference most likely won't matter but the better screen, faster processor, multiple storeage options, and greatly enhanced camera would prove an overall more complete travel companion.
If you're looking to travel light however and have good vision :D then the UX will most likely be a winner for you (plus the built in Wi-Fi is a nice plus). Of course with a Sony Wi-Fi card, the NZ has that too, but you'll have to give up the CF slot storage and the antenna will stick out a bit making the already larger NZ, larger still.
One last note on the Wi-Fi, I have used Wi-Fi on both the NZ and the UX. My experience was that the range of the antenna using the NZ was better than that which I seem to get out of the UX. Also, keep in mind that the NZ offers you what I consider to be a MAJOR plus for traveling, that being a replaceable battery to keep you going when charging isn't an option!
Sorry for the long winded reply, just got started and thought that my unique perspective might be of some help to you. [Down from my soapbox now].
On a more selfish note (but one that I tried not to let color my reply), I do have a brand new factory sealed NZ90 for sale with an extra battery. If interested, feel free to drop me a line. [End of unabashed plug]. ;)
Best of luck in your personal quest for the "Perfect PDA"!

I've had an NZ almost since release and my main reason to go with a UX is that I was starting to use the camera less. Weight of NZ was also since I could not bring it in sweat pants or warm-ups without them being weighted down quite a bit on one side.
Since getting my UX yesterday I haven't found one thing I dislike, with quite awhile since Japanese release I've seen enough comparison pictures and such to have a good enough idea what was up. Screen size is not an issue to me because the resolution is there and 480 width makes up for it IMO.
Size is great and weighs close to half that of the NZ. For portability I don't think you can beat the UX right now.

I'd recommend the UX unless you're REALLY into taking pictures. My guess, however, is that if you are you already have a really nice camera. In that case, go with the UX. Small, 16hrs audio, 104 megs, 30fps video, good keyboard, dual wireless, landscape, etc etc.

Ok ok Iīm almost going for the UX...I could live with the UXīs camera, seeing some pictures from Sonicboyīs site I was not dissapointed at all.......and somehow I have this feeling NZīs pictures are not that good, somewhere (cant remember) there was this review where a picture comparison between the Zire and the NZ was made and there didnīt seem to be any noticeable difference..........................
My only concern now is speed for gaming....is there any difference that one can see......I understand the NZ has a faster processor, but again the UX can handle videos and media better than the NZ..........................................or so I understand, but anyway PDA games nowadays are not that media demanding........
The other thing is that Iīm going to have to cash in some extra 200USD for the memory stick (I was planning on buying a 512 CF for the NZ).....those things are really expensive...my wife is buying these things for me in Japan in 2 weeks...she is going to kill me when she knows itīs reaching 900USD....the PDA alone.....not to mention the new laptop :)

I compared the 2 units tonight. The UX is very light. It certainly fits better in the pocket but....
The small screen is very small an not as good as the NZ
The camera is good but far indeed from the NZ
Most of the apps that I use are not horizontaly optimized
What about WonderSilk ????
My wonderfull NZ/NX status bar will disapear....
My ZLauncher will work (at least I suppose)
I did not find the unit slower.
But I found the overall quality perception to be on the light side. You do not really know if this stuff is in metal or plastic...
What is 29Mb of media memory in front a 1GB memory stick pro... I know this small memory is faster.... but still very small
The 16Mb of available RAM is an improvement... but still only 16MB!!!
And to finish, I would miss my 1GB CF!!!!
Tough decision. I did not buy.
Let's see what Sony will prepare for OS6!!!
We should not have to wait too long!

I would say, now that I am using both, that if games are very important to you you will definately want to go with the NZ. The key layout is much more suited for that. The spare battery I have for the NZ is nice, but the extended battery for the UX should solve power issues, especially on trips with a lot of WI-FI usage.

sigh...I really canīt make a decision, how do games play on the UX...specially vertical games like sub hunt (right name?).....its the same only smaller, the screen tries to fit the usual vertical screen or do you have to constantly scroll down?

I'm not sure about how the games play, but the screen size and horizontal format was a big downside for me. I never know whether sales people know what they're talking about, but I was told most apps only work in horizontal mode. I love that with the virtual graffiti area I can now see my whole day on one screen even when it's pretty filled up. Squashing that into the horizontal mode and then wasting the side of the screen seems odd to me. My biggest problems with yhandheplds generally is not having enough screen space to see all I want to at one time. I'd rather have a bigger handheld and carry it in a briefcase than make due with the smaller screen.
