Best Buy just upgraded me from a T615C to a NX60 (!!!).  What are the essential NX utilities?

On the T615C I used:

SwitchHack
ClearHack
ClipHack
TealScript

ThinFontFix

Thanks

Welcome to the NX!! I would suggest the following replacements.
SwitchHack - Try McPhling5

ClearHack - For this, I use Colorize (freeware from Palmgear), Click on Edit, Click the Field tab, and then set Lines to be the same color as Background.

ClipHack - not sure
TealScript - not sure

ThinFontFix - Try TT4NX, though something better is coming either tonight or tomorrow from the same author.

I also would highly recommend OKey v1.1 and also Photoskin if you're interested in changing your Virtual Graffiti (VG) skins.

Make sure you get the newest version of PowerRun -- it really saves the MBs!

I've just installed Power Run 1.2 on my NX70V and it's acting completely differently to how the manual says it should.

I installed it on my Clie and started it up and got a screen saying, "You can use this program for 30 days" and then a shortish listing of about 15 (mainly) 3rd party programs.

The manual says, "When PowerRUN is launched for the first time, You will be asked if you wish to "Activate PowerRUN?". You should answer "Yes". Your Palm will then be reset and PowerRUN started"

This didn't happen.
There's no mention of apps like Clie Mail, address book, memos, to dos or any of the other stuff I want to move so what exactly am I doing wrong?

(Or have the lagers completely screwed my logic cells tonight?)

Apps such as Address Book, Memo Pad, Datebook, and Todo List are all in the ROM. They arn't taking up any of your RAM, so there is no reason to move them.

All of rldunns suggestions are great ones, but the two above are absolutely of the ::DON'T BE WITH OUT 'EM:: magnitude!

Jock: That startup sequence sounds like how it initializes on OS4 devices; PowerRun started up for me in the exact same way as it did for you. Don't worry about it.

As for the program itself: All of the CLIE built in apps on the NX are in ROM, not RAM -- that's why they aren't showing up on the list. The reason for the 11MB RAM is completely unrelated to those programs.

The listing of programs on the PowerRun screen are the apps that you can move to the Memory Stick. Simply highlight the program and hit the 'Move' button. It will move everything related to the program to the MS, including its databases. Test it out with CLIE Demo (that program should be on the list).

You can also back up your CLIE using MSBackup, just in case.

Take it from me: It's worth the effort!!!!

What's the website for TT4NX?

TT4NX has now been updated to include not only the TT font, but 4 additional fonts (SansSerif, HandEra, HandEraBold, and Tahoma), and it's now known as Fonts4NX. It's available from Palmgear. See my other thread in the NX forum if you want more info.

powerrun (newest), backupman, flyzip, mcphling, mcfile, wordcomplete 3.0, spellcheck, jot 2.0 (or graffiti anywhere), all MUST haves for me :)

throw in uninstall manager for good measure if you're really feeling randy...

I'll second McPhling. TealScript isn't out yet for PalmOS5. TealPoint says that it's coming.

1. PowerRun
2. TT4NX
3. LCDAnalyzer (most important right after purchase!)

I strongly feel that these three are absolutely essential.

My Essentials:

1. a file manager (i use filez, mcfile, super utility, and my workbench. can't decide which one I like best)
2. Mcphling (for launching recent/favorite apps when I press capture button)
3. Fonts4NX (different font makes a really big difference)
4. color changing app (have used colorize or khroma. colorize mainly but new version has been causing lots of hard resets for me)
5. PowerRun (best utility app!!!)
6. Okey (so I never have to open up my NX. can use solely in tablet mode)
7. LightNzip (for zipping files I don't use much. heard Flyzip XR also works good)
8. Backupman (built-in MSBackup works fine but Backupman backs up my RAM files for me daily)

thats all I can think of right now. I don't think I would be able to operate without these!

What does LCD analyzer do?

it lets you analyze the LCD to see if it is working correctly by displaying different things on the screen. It is great and very comprehensive but I don't really think it is important unless you think you have a problem with your LCD

LCDAnalyzer's most important use is to check for DEAD PIXELS when you buy your Clie. My first NX had a dead pixel and I returned it for a replacement. I had LCDAnalyzer on a MS so I could check my replacement unit before I left the store!

As a side note, getting back to the original post, there is now a TealScript beta on their website that works with the NX line. Macros don't work yet, however.

Thanks, Eric. That's one app I miss from my old T615C. In fact, has anyone posted this info in the NX thread?

Stupid question but...
Why would you need PowerRun if you can install most of the app right in MS? And I use Mc Philing to luanch app from MS?

Isn't Clie Files just a rebranded McFile? Why buy McFile when it comes free on your device?

I posted a new thread in the NX forum on the subject, if that's what you mean. I'm looking forward to some of the things that might be/will be new in the next version of TealScript. They're working on the ability to have multi-stroke characters so that people that get used to Graffiti 2 or Jot can use TealScript to customize it. They're trying to add the ability to write anywhere (like NewPen or Graffiti Anywhere), but they're not sure if that's going to make it in.

The problem is you cant run most apps right of MS without problems. Some apps that are a single file will run fine but apps that have more than one file (databases, records, etc), often don't recognize the other file if you have installed it in the MS. powerrun moves the app and all related files to a folder on the MS and then moves them to RAM when you run the app. Mcphling also works great for files moved to MS with powerrun.

Does anyone know if there is a calculator replacement that will pop up, but let you stay in your current program - and that will work in OS5?

There is a silkscreen plugin that you can get that puts a calculator in the VG area...I saw it in a post earlier about silkscreen plugins
