View Full Version : Some questions for those who have the UX already.

1. Given the fact that the CPU can change its speed based on need, is there a screen in Prefs to do this, say specify a specific speed for each app?
2. On the shutdown feature, how long does it take to backup all your files and shut down the system, as well as the time it takes to restore them back. Is there an app button to shut it down? Please walkthrough if possible.
3. A lot have been bringing up issues regarding its horizonal form. I think the plus to that is a bigger keybard. Is the keyboard more usable now, I mean, easy to press, big buttons, pressing shift, numlock, etc.?
4. Is the internal memory accessible as another drive in your PC, when you run Data Import? If there is a Memory stick inserted, will explorer see two drives?
TIA.

1) I haven't found any way yet to explicitly set the speed of the processor. It generally feels pretty fast, maybe a tad slower than my last Palm (Tungsten T)
2) To shut down/backup through prefs->power saving->"Turn Unit Off" takes about 36 seconds. About 40 to come back on a power on. I have not yet found an option to do that for every shutdown, but others seem to be working on this more aggressively.
3) I think I'm going to like the keyboard, but honestly I'm not there yet. My old treo keyboard was a bit shorter learning period. Things are in unexpected places sometimes. No NumLock, shift (and the blue-dot shift) are both pretty easy to use.
4) Data Import just makes an actual memory stick show up. Haven't found a way to expose the internal memory. That said, it is available as a hotsync destination.

3. I think the keyboard is very good and functional. I came from NR70/NX70V and this is much better - spacious and easy to press. You do not have to keep pressing the shift key. UX has the sticky key which means if you just want to capitalize 1 letter, press shift key once and only the next letter will be capitalized. If you need to type capitals continuously, press the shift key twice, the caplock will be activated. The same is true for the blue function key. You do not need numlock as there is a dedicated row for numbers.
4. Yes, you can mount the Internal Media. On the top right corner of Data Import screen, instead of MS, choose Internal Media from the pull down list. Then click connect, the Internal Media will show up in you Windows Explorer as a removable drive - just like the MS. You cannot mount both the MS and Internal Memory concurrently, only one at a time.

4. Then what use of the "Data Export"?

Thanks thooeu!
RE: keyboard, I guess Ed of Brighthand should be happy about the sticky key feature.
RE: Internal media, that's just good news.
Thanks again.

Reggie, I have already told Ed about it, indeed, he was happy to hear that. :D

I have to admit that I have never use this before. This is something you installed on the PC side. I use the Data Import (formerly MS Import) exclusively for all my Clies.
Greetings all...
The keyboard is so much easier to use now. I was surprised that the buttons were not raised up a bit but then found that to be just fine. There are a couple sticky key apps others have talked about that will allow the shift to be caps lock... have not tried it though.
Still playing with that 'extra' internal memory and how best to use it. As well how best to access it. The new PowerRUN sees it to move apps to with shortcuts still in the launcher (hmmm... how do you get apps in the 3D launcher into groups?!).
Question on the new jog dial. I did a restore from my PC... was using a NX70. Now the jog dial wont select when I tap it, like in the launcher, clicking the jog dial doesn't launch an app. Any ideas on where you 'turn on' the click function of the jog dial? Or did the NX70 backup/restore hose something?
Thanks!

What about when installing applications from Palm Desktop? Can you choose to install to the handheld, an actual memory stick, or the internal memory stick?

Yes, you see all cards (including the virtual stick) that the sync app knows about. (On both PC and Mac)

i have just two questions as well.
i KNOW the screen issue has been KILLED many MANY times, but ...
1)what is it like compared to a Palm TT, seing as that is the only PDA that i can mentaly/physical compare it to that would be really helpfull.
2)shutdown -> is there a way to just shutdown and it turns off/on like the palm TT, or does it always copy/restore?
it does not matter, mine is on pre-order with Sony Canada, i cant wait!!!
whoever makes the first screen rotation app, will make a killing!!
Howdy Killa-B
The screen is much nicer than the T|T. If you can go to the store... look at the screen for the Clie NX70 and NX80. The screen size is smaller than those... but it's brightness is in between those two. Brighter than the 70 but not as bright as the 80. I feel the colors are a touch richer... but that can vary from one unit to another.
You can control if the unit shuts down and if it does a back up. You can set it to 'just turn off'.
I doubt Sony will patch this device with the OS Palm just put out (5.3) that allows for screen rotation so I'm with you... where is the rotate screen app!!

I agree with Gar. I'm moving from a TT and the screen isn't an issue at all. Sure, the TT might have made a slightly better flashlight in a pitch-black room, but the UX screen is great, very crisp. Slightly tighter dpi than the TT, but when I pulled out the Tungsten to grab a bookmark, it suffered from my having just been looking at the Clie.
Plus, for what it's worth, I'm having a much easier time with Bluetooth with it than I did the TT.
