Hi all..ive just posted this same thing in the "Matrix Reloaded" thread but I think this merits its own Post because many of us use Kazaa but as of yet no one (that ive read about here) has succeeded in sharing kinoma vids to the masses...

My user name on Kazaa is "mynameismas"

lets try to find the way to make kazaa work for us all...

(original post)

You know i just noticed something...all my Palm kinoma videos are under the "OTHER" section in my kazaa folder..So heres what Im going to do:

ALL my Kinoma Vid files ill change the extension to ".mpg" and then under the descriptions ill have it say

"Kinoma - change video to .pdb"

THAT should make it a lil bit easier to do. Opinions????

Ill be also recording my voice and making a WAV file called "MyNameisMas" - itll simply say change my vid extensions to .pdb and share.

please tell me guys (or PM me) if youll get lucky with it

doing it all tonight at about midnight EST.

This is the most interesting suggestion I have heard to date, but the fact remains that any one search on Kinoma only searches those "nodes" nearby, or in close proximity to your computer. Thus, for example, you as "mynameismas" are sharing a file on a computer in California (even if it is cleverly re-named in another more-popular format or as a different filename altoghether that will be displayed on searches for its "more-widely-shared" namesake) my computer will fail to display your file because it isn't located in the closest node to me. Therefore, you are still left with the situation where we will still have to get the renamed file to thousands of computers (or whatever number it may be) in order for it to have the possibility of showing up on a search from any random location nationally or internationally.

Your only hope in this matter is that people will download your file thinking (and rightfully so b/c of the filename) that they are dl'ing the more popular file, and then subsequently deciding not to delete your file from their computer. In other words, it is not ".pdb" that is keeping our queries from displaying hits, it's the fact that only a small handful of people are sharing .pdb's and they are not registering on the majority of Kazaa searches.

note: insert "if" into second sentence between "example," and "you" above

In short, I don't believe Kazaa will be a viable option for "rare" files such as Kinoma unless the way the software performs searches is modified.

okay thanks...but im still going to go for it..you never know..and im sorry that you cant say who you are..it woudl have been interesting to talk further with you on PM to find a way to resolve this

As Unregistered said because of the node structure the file must reach a critcal mass before it can be found by many people. However I still think you should continue in your effort to share the file. I will give it a try and search for the file.

as for videos.....ill mention here some of the videos here that ive converted and will change to say .mpg

the size of them varies inbetween 11-17MB each and theyre relatively well known songs/videos so lets hope that it CAN hit that critical "node" as was explained before

Aaliyah - "more than a woman"
Nelly Furtado "turn down the lights"
Usher, "You dont have to call"
Busta Rhymes "woo-hah, got you all in check"
Samantha Mumba "baby come on over tonight"
Whitney Houston "whatulookinat"
50 Cent "In Da club"

I also have fullscreen versions of the latest trailers from

The Hulk
DareDevil
Kill Bill
Charlies Angels full throttle

direct connect is awsome. You can make your own hub with just clie people for instance. People might want to look into that.

Probably it's due to the Newbie of Kazaa, but how to find your UserName if I have no search results with your Username??? The Option Search UserName becomes only valid when I found something already with your name. And searching like 'whatulookinat' or 'Aaliyah' doesn't bring a result.

Did I make something wrong or isn't this findeable?

Please leave the files there and anyone else move your pdb files into the kazaa directory (u can make any folder part of your shared files). Although there wont be dozens of pdbs some ppl are bound to d/l and then theres a snowball affect so hang in there.

I too am interest in using direct connect. It seems to be a great program. However I can't seem to find any of the clie devoted hubs. Does anyone know of any?

KaZaa will *not* work for sharing such rare files. What Unregistered said was correct. KaZaa is only good for stuff that is widespread and not so uncommon.

For the best solution, please go to www.mirc.com and download mIRC. Read the intro in its help file, and type these:

/server irc.autobotnation.com
/join #clie

We have lots of file servers there, and you are welcome to join us to either download or to share your files.

How about an irc tutorial? Anyone know of a good one?

well. im not going to stop doing it just because those are saying it CANT be done...because as ive said..im renaming them all to mpg so its as if youre searching for the same EXACT video name which is popular already.

All you have to realize is that when you highlight it, it WILL say its kinoma and that you need to change it to .pdb

Ive kept this on today whilst I was working and when I got home lo and behold Ive seen over 20 completed downloads of my 'mynameismas' files. So its slow, but it WILL spread as time rolls on.

Dont stop trying...=)

Hmm, I wonder if "direct connect" might be a good idea in this instance?

Mas, just so you know, I just searched for "mynameismas" on Kazaa, and got about 7 results, all being your music videos. So it IS working for some of us at least...

AND, I just right clicked and searched for more from same user, and it pulled up 33 files total. Good work!

Hi, like iebnn said, come to

irc.autobotnation.com
#clie

some of the clieflix page (Rest in Peace :P) are there too, but most are sharing NX at the Moment, but Kinoma is coming more and more :P

Would be nice if u guys would set up an fserve too, and share your files with us.

I can write an tutorial if needed for both, basics (connection, needed commands...) and setting up an fserve.

But I think I need a view days, don`t have much free time at the moment.

I like it more than sharing tools because its much easier to communicate.

My English is not the best, so I hope that all of you will understand my tutorial ;)

Thyraz

SURE PLEASE DO!!!!!!! copy and paste and give me a PriveMessage with it so I can remember it always :D

Personally I've still been having trouble converting a 700mb DIVX movie to a 128 mb MS. I dont rip from DVD's (maybe I should try) because I dont have that much Hard Drive space left on my computer (only about 3 gigs..)

Thyraz, I'm actually in the process of setting up an FTP server right now. Just installed Serv-U last night and started playing around with it. Once I'm done, I'll post the address on here. Might be a day or two until I'm done...

OK, but i think there are users that need the tutorial.

On Chan there are already sharing some users and perhaps some more will follow now?

Hope to see u there...

I have to ask.... why bother? Even if you may be able to eventually get two or three videos pretty widespread through the US, that doesn't mean it's a good/efficient way of doing it. Also, by tricking people into downloading it, it only makes it likely that they will delete the file before anyone could download it off them.

Just use IRC. It's much better than this method.

Or FTP, that way its a dedicated place to get it. It may bog you down but I find it useful. PS: Anyone behind a firewall should be in pasv "passive" mode when trying to connect to my ftp. In fact, just use pasv to be safe no matter where you're downloading from.

PS: I've already had one customer get 8 kinoma files.

Actually, I use CaesarFTP for windows. It works pretty nice and its as easy as hell to set up.

Rob,

oh boy...another ftp thing?...can you give me a write up like Thyraz did???

rob_squared

I don't even remember where CaeserFTP's site is. So I'll have to get back to you later on this. All I can remember is that you choose a folder you want to serve as your ftp, allow anonymouse connections and limit the users (ie 5max and they can only d/l one file at a time). Its something you can play around with until I can give you more details.
