codec for playing voice recorder LP files?

voice recorder SP .wav files will play in Windows Media, but trying to play LP files results in a codec error  - does anyone know where to get the appropriate codec for desktop use of these files?

Yeah, it's called "QuickTime".  No, really, the QuickTime player is the only one I've found, so far, that will play the LP wavs.
