Installing Palm Desktop and other applications

Hi,
This is not really an handheld problem but .......

I'd like to get Palm desktop and other software installed on the network at my university. However the system admins told me that my only option was to see if I could install the software on my network space.
Does anyone know if Palm Desktop can be installed within a certain directory only without touching the main operating system..... Is there a way to specify the path for installing palm desktop?

I would say only if your end terminal was a PC and has it's own OS.
