To have a complete wiev of what's going on in Europe, here I write what happens in Italy. I called Sony Italia and the ux50 will be available october the 15th. The cost will be 849€ and they will start accepting pre order from the next week.

gee, that's expensive .. 1000 euros in finaland, wow, sony is crazy .. I personally woudn't pay more then 500 euros .. but I guess sony doesn't care much about me :-)

p.s. I'm happy for my TG50+512MB Sony MS pro which I bought together for the half price the new UX50 const alone and I'm also about to buy a 1GB MS..

-> sonic boy : my friend in tokyo who gets it from kakaku told me it's sold less than 500€, kakaku actual best price is 58300Y / 459€ ; i suppose taxes and shipping should be added

-> psycho
they don't even get finish !
Euroclies are sold with a french/english/german OS, they dropped spanish and italian who used to be also available

ahhh, yes, I was mearly converting the RRP, of course kakaku will beat everyone :D

*sigh* language.. it should be a single OS with language MODULES.. but that would break down trade barriers.. if my mobile phone can do it why not my PDA :P

gee 459 euros, that sounds much more reasonable to me .. anyone in japan willing to send me one ? with a small provision of course :-)

C0mm0n, I was aware of the OS only coming in those flavours, but i'll bet the packaging and manuals will be translated...

Seriously though, does anyone know what Sony's justification is? Sure, there's the cost of distribution, localization, potentially higher labour costs, the issue of smaller revenues in niche markets etcetera and let's not forget the higher VAT. But a 550 euro difference in MSRP? That's just silly! I'm already having second thoughts on plunking down 850 euros for the Dutch model, I can only imagine what the Finnish must be going through...

And why not just settle for one language, English that is? If most of Europe can do without a localized OS, then why not the Germans and the French?

Yeah, that sure would have solved my problem! In fact, I wish I had access to a GSM phone here that could do that. I wanted to buy one of the Sony Ericsson ones if I could get one that also supported Japanese, but Sony Ericsson said I would have to buy one in Japan and if I did, I couldn't get any support at all from Sony Ericsson in the US. I would have ended up the t68i and be able to Bluetooth as well as WiFi with the UX50. The phone I ended up with has no bluetooth, so unless I change phones, I can only use the WiFi half for net access.

Ah well...

Does anyone know why Sony Chile doesn't sell Clie here?!!
I'll have to buy the UX-50 online and the custom office will charge almost the price of anothe one (taxes are high here)

First of all and it makes sony pricing policy even more surprising, europe is the 1st market for pdas in the world ; this info is serious that's surprising but true so don't expect sony to dump some langage off their os but maybe to see more localised os in the coming years ;

Then i think sony's marketing is different in europe : they're branded as a very high-end brand whereas in us and japan they have a totally different positionning. Moreover, europe is known as the lastest wagon of world technology train and we're used to dreaming on us and jap release before getting them here for most tech products ; we're paying in some way the early release here.

But i also have to mention that in europe u can find sony products at better prices via good retailers or exclusive sony low price retailers ;

I also made a NX73 sonystyle price comparison, i bet on a bug on the swedish website :o. It seems sony knows how to make a global european price...
France : 549€
Suisse : 549€*
Espagne : 549€
UK : 569€*
Belgique : 558€
Allemagne : 499€
Pays Bas : 549€
Italie : 549€
Finlande : 549€*
Autriche : 499€
Suede : 919€*

I looked at sonystyle chile website..their latest clie is the nr70v and u can't even buy it on the site..;

Just try www.douwantit.com u'll be able to shop from many us only stores and be delivered at home in chile ; another way would be to wait on the european release and get it from a worldwild shipping euro store as some hk users did for their nx73
