transfer Pictures without a Memory Stick

The pictures I shot with my camera are stored on my Clie, and when i HotSync my Clie the Picture Files are transfered in my backup directory.

My Problem is: How can I open the *.pdb files. If I rename these files they couldn't be opened.
How can I convert the PDB files back to jpg files?

Your best bet is to get a memory stick, you cannot put jpeg files in RAM only as pdb's. I don't know if they can be converted back to jpeg on the PC's desktop.

But thats not the way i want to do. There must be a possibility to habe my pics cirectly from my NX to my computer.

palm stores only pdb's in ram; it might be possible to beam those files and the receiving devices converting it. if so you need to beam it to your laptop then.
once you use hotsync, the pdb is stored. there might be conversion tools but i'm not sure.
anyhow, best thing is to get a memstick (at least a little 4-8mb one if you want to save money), then you can save your pictures as jpg on memstick (which is not possible in ram). positive side effect: pictures stored in ram take ~150kB per pdb whereas the jpgs are only ~35kB in size

Well, I tried, nothing I do or no app that I have will convert the PDB file back to jpg. Everything is PC to Sony Handheld. Without a memory stick, I do not see a simple way of doing it, Sorry!

Hi Guys,

I had the same problem to convert a JPG Sony PDB file to a PC one.

I just wrote a little utility to do this. It's not much tested and I think there are some holes, but with my pictures it workes well!

the PDB that are copied to the desktop are JPGs with useless bytes that need to be removed. All you have to do is strip these bytes with an HEX editor and rename the file from .PDB to .JPG.
To find what bytes need to be stripped you can send to yourself an e-mail with a picture attached and compare the .JPG with the .PDB

If you can't figure it out I'll post it here as soon as I find sometime.

You are right, but it's not so easy to find out witch bytes are to be removed (the file is saved in blocks). I consulted the Palm File Format documentation to find out how the format is.

I'll attach the PDB strip tool. It's in German but easy to use. If anybody needs help, mail me. Maybe later I'll create an english version.

Use the Clie Mail app that comes bundled in the Install CD. Attach the picture to an email addressed to yourself.
