About a month ago, I asked for advice for help on a loose screen, now I am back with a problem with a loosening in the hinge. I've had my NR70V for nearly two years, so I guess some maintenance is to be expected. Still, I can't help but wonder if this is a sign that I need to start saving for a replacement.
Anyhow, I noticed today some looseness in my PDA. I checked it out and the problem is not a looseness at the base of the screen like last time, but it appears to be loose at the actual hinge. I would say there is about an 1/8 to 1/4 of an inch of play up and down, and less than 1/8 inch of play left to right. Any thoughts on how to repair it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
ryber

***NOTE THAT THIS IS FOR THE NR70. NR70V MIGHT BE SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT***
You need to get a very small screw driver (eyeglass screwdriver should to the trick) and
MAKE SURE YOU KEEP TRACK OF WHAT SCREW GOES WHERE!!!!
1. take the top screw out (next to the MS slot)
2. Remove all the screws from the back panel (5 of them) and
3. remove the battery cover screw (down from the Hold slider)
Then you need to pull the back cover off, and tighten the loose screw right above the headphone jack. Replace the back cover, and all the screws, and you should be in good shape.
I've done this surgery on my NR70 several times, and haven't had a problem yet

That did the trick. I figured there was a way to tighten the hinge, but couldn't figure out where the connection was. Thanks for your help!

No problem. Glad to help keep those "old" NR's in running order

You should also lubricate the hinge so that it moves up and down smoothly. this way, the loose hinge problem can be reduced as well, cuz there will be less stress on the screws holding the hinge together.

I had to tighten the screw 3 or 4 times when I had my NR70V. But now I have an NX80V so I shouldn't have to worry about that for a while.;)

That worked very well with mine, too - thanks for the tip.
But what about the screw for the other side? I tightened all the screws I saw near the hinges, but the right side of my NR70 is still loose...

Well - I went ahead anyway. Whatever holds the mounting bracket on the right, is underneath the Memory stick drive. I got two screws out OK, but the 3rd (underneath the camera ribbon cable was too tight for me. I thought I'd better stop before I got the hammer out :-)
Anyone got further than this and seen how it is held? Would a dribble of superglue on the centering pins (just visible) help?
Drastic measures!!

tightening the screws will temporarily solve the prob, but it will come back again. now i just live with it, not really that big a deal anyway
