I understand your situation since I am in the same one since the beginning of May.
Sony is not making friends on this point.

If you lose your Clie, do expect Sony to replace it for free?:D

I hope that you make a difference between losing a Clie and losing an install disk.

Every PC and every PDA I have ever owned always allowed me the ability to download all the necessary install apps from the web. Well, save the OS of a PC of course. Basically, if I lose the bundled CD that came with my iPAQ, I can go to any number of websites and download the latest version of Activesync. I can go to HP and download PDF and HTML versions of all the product manuals, device drivers, etc. I can go to Microsoft's Pocket PC page to download things like the latest version of Windows Media Player and Pocket Money. Basically, I never really worried about losing my Pocket PC install disc. The same thing goes with my Toshiba notebook, or my Nokia 3650 smartphone. I can go to the manufacturer's support pages and download everything I need.

I checked Sony's support site for the NX80 I now own, and they have 2 files for me to download: drivers for the car craddle and the game controller. That's it. No Palm Desktop. No Intellisync lite. Lets assume, though, that I find these apps some place else. What about the proprietary Sony apps, though? What about Data Export? What about the bundled Clie apps not stored in ROM?

Basically, should I lose my installation CD, I could be screwed. Sure, Sony might send me another one. But I'll have to pay for it and it's shipping -- even though the CD it's self only cost them 10 cents -- and I'll be unable to use my Clie for several weeks until it arrives.

But, complaining about it doesn't really get me anything. At least I know now, rather than find out 6 months from now and be left with nothing. All I can really do is cover myself rather than rely on Sony and make several copies of my desk and put them in several strategic locations that would make them easily located when I need one.

Other than that, the only real hope is finding someone who has the same Clie as you, and hope they have the time and bandwidth to e-mail you a copy of their entire CD ...
