I just recently got this clie and before I could get a screen protecter the screen got scratched. Although it's faint and not noticable straight on, knowing that they are there and writing and feeling the grooves slightly, I am rather annoyed. I did an extensive search for remedies for this problem and I came up with people using car wax and rain-x. However I found two commercial products that claim to repair screens for pdas and they are Displex and Plexus plastic cleaner. Has anyone used any of these two products? Knowing that my clie got scratched before I was able to protect it is driving me crazy. Also applying writerights are a pain...I've already wasted half the pack due to dust and air bubbles and I've pretty much given up just trying to apply it until I can find a fix for the screen thats driving me crazy. Please help. :(

Its about $130. This I saw on a website. Definitely more expensive if you send it back to Sony. then again, for your warranty to remain valid, you will have to send to Sony.

I used Meguiar's #17 Clear Plastic Cleaner when I got a couple of scratches on my iPod. Worked perfectly. It takes a lot of rubbing though, and I'm not sure how that would affect the Clie's screen though.

It really sucks though when you know your screen is scratched, but if you showed it to anyone else, they would think you were crazy for being worried about something that is barely noticabe, and had to pointed out to the other person.

Good luck

I've had some success with glass polish (which they use for polishing away scratches from windows), but it's not easy.

thanks guys...i guess ill try the #17 glass cleaner first and if not i might just get the glass replacement and use companionlinks screensaver as soon as i get it or something. and as for other people wondering why i would be so critical about it...guess they wouldnt understand unless it was theirs or liked their pda so much cuz they thought it was the best (665 is the best =D). just my two cents and again thanks.

It will help your display, but I doubt it will remove scratches on your Clie. One of the benefits of Plexus is that it removes static so you have less dust on the screen. On screens like your cell phone or even CD's, the scratch removal factor is more apparent since the minor polishing that it does actually will help the scratch become less visible.

I have found that when your T gets scratches, an aftermarket stylus is less sensitive to the scratches than the stylus which is very small pointed.

For prevention of future scratches, I have used an inexpensive alternative for years on my Palm and now my Clie. Get a sheet protector used for protecting 8-1/2 x 11 paper in a binder. Cut out an area 13/16 x 2-1/2 and slip behind the edges over the Grafiti area, which gets most of the wear. A little hand cream rubbed on both sides reduces friction and holds in place (remember, a "LITTLE"). Flip over when necessary and replace when this gets scratched. For the cost of the screen protector, (25 cents?), you'll have enough to outlive your Clie.

I had the same problem - scratched my screen in the graffiti area and it drove me nuts. Got a Sony screen protector which was expensive but easy to apply and barely noticeable on the screen. I don't notice the scratch any more.

Displex works great, though it's hard to find. It's designed for cell phone screens but talking with the tech support it works well on PDAs as well. I've tried it and it did a pretty good job.

OK, in order here:

Plexus is GREAT and did a very good job on my NX which had scratches (bad ones) on it's casing.

Don't buy WriteRights, they BITE. Buy these, they are the BEST:

Displex works very well. A screen protector is highly recommended!

i read up on displex and some people had some really positive reviews while others gave it negative ones. has anyone here actually used displex on their pda and if so what are the results/recommendations?

I've used it on all of mine (though I did try on the cheapest one first) and I love it.

I bought my dad a can for his Clie too!

I tried Displex for scratches on my Clie screen, and have been very disappointed. Now instead of small scratches, I have "cloudy" areas where I rubbed with the product. They're more noticeable than the scratches.

Ouch.

If you get "cloudy areas" you'll probably need to use a finer polish. As I said, I used glass polish and that worked fine for me.

What exactly is glass polish and where does one get it? Thanks.

Great News about Displex! My 615 has minute scratches in the graffiti area, and although they don't look or feel like much, they are quite noticeable when I run the stylus across them! I will definitely give Displex a try!

Thanks!

Glass polish is polish that people use for polishing their windows. I guess it's mosty used by professionals, but I guess you should be able to pick it up in a DIY store.

Also try the finest rubbing compound you can find, along with an orbital or other electrical sander using a small detail pad. Make sure you move the sander around and don't just leave it in one place. You don't want to create a depression.
