Does anyone have a suggested program for playing MP3 files that have been copied to the new MS Pros? I would like to take advantage of their larger size, but they aren't compatable with the Sony ATRAC software. Has anyone managed to use them, and if so, how did you do it. Enquiring minds would like to know.

TIA

You can use the existing player.  Just place your mp3s in /palm/programs/msaudio.

Greetings!

I use my NX80 with a 256MB Memory Stick Pro all the time to play MP3 files. Like the earlier post states, just copy the files to the /palm/programs/msaudio directory. No need for the Sony Sonic Stage nonsense - I didn't even install it!

Best regards,
Bawko

Not an issue, I have a 1GB Scandisk MS and plays fine. If you put a hundred plus music files in the subdir it will be slow pulling up the list, but it works.

I have been doing fine, tonite it just stopped loading files. So I formated the disc, reformated in the clie, the palm-programs-msaudio files come back up, I loaded 119 kps of stuff, its on the card, and now my audio player see's nothing! AHHHHHHHHHHHH!

First it won't take high bit rates, ok, just stay with low ones. now its on the card, and won't read it!

Heading on long trip soon, thought I would buy a 256 stick and have at least somthing,,,,,,,,,Man this makes me not want to mess with the CF just yet.

thank in advance to anyone whom can help...

Did you put it in the Palm-Programs-MSAudio folder?

The AudioPlayer does not read file names, only the ID3 tagging inside the MP3 file.

44.1KHz sampling rate

Up to 320kbps bit rate

NO VBR!!!

I had a similar problem.

One thing to check before doing anything drastic - the Clie has a tendency, at times ,to placee two PALM folders on a card. If that is the case try to delete the bottom folder, remount the card and access audio player.

If that doesn't work, reformat the CF card (be sure to use FAT not FAT32). When you reinstall and mount the card the Clie will replace all the folders with new ones, then reinstall your MP3s. It's worked well for me ever since I reformatted.

Good Luck.

I tried that, and it worked well. One problem I did run into that was interesting. I ripped my Harry Potter books from CD to MP3, and put them in the folder. It said that it couldn't find the copyright information. I thought that was interesting, since the MS Pros are Magic Gate but don't support the ATRAC. How is one supposed to deal with the copyrighted music.

Now if only we had a Vorbis player...

(Or is there one? I thought I saw one for Tungsten?)

Two things:

When you rip from a CD, the files maybe read only.

There is a hidden copy protection scheme in most MP3 rippers that should be disabled before recording.

I don't think CDex has one, since I didn't have problems after ripping 3 audio cds.

I don't know about the MS Pro sticks, but I'm using a regular 128 MB Sony MS and haven't had any real problems transferring mp3 files to it from my PC using the NX80's included Data import program. (You should install the Data export utility from the install disk to your PC first of course.)

The Data export utility will automatically create the appropriate folders in the MS (i.e. msaudio, msfiles, etc) depending on which file type you export.

Sure beats trying to create the folders yourself as the file structure that the NX80 uses in the MS is a bit confusing. ;)

I don't really think transferring mp3s directly to your MS (using third party software) is a good idea, since I read somewhere that Sony uses its own proprietary mp3 decoder. Better stick with their own bundled software I suppose.

Maybe that's the reason why some of you can't get the Audio Player to recognize your mp3 files. Just a theory. :)

The clie won't play variable bit mp3 files. A great source of where I get my music online is a per pay site called E-music.com and its high quality downloads come from the variable bit formula. It won't play.

I formated using Fat32 vs Fat which was wrong. Changing that and staying away from the higher files has worked. I want to get a big gig cf file and use eruwares new driver next week when released.

I use a card reader and just drop the songs right into it and its no problem.

A bit rate reducer might work and I have a note into the fine people at E-music to help. Older Mp3 players also could not handle the variable rate bit and they suggest not using them. But there must be a way. they make real nice cds by the way, but I would love to carry 15-20 hours worth of tunes on the card, but only at 128. I keep posted.
