View Full Version : Um....what happened?
I was just ready to try to tackle the "these NX progs work great if you do it like this and this and this...yadda yadda yadda...." project and now all those posts ARE ALL GONE!!!! WHAT HAPPENED?!?!
Ok, not the end of the world I guess, but anyone know what the best flash program is to use for the NR70? I'd really like to some house cleaning on my new Clie.

Agh, you try to do the right thing by searching the forums and the database is gone. If you still want to replace the NR versions with the NX version 4.5, let me know I could probably walk you through it. You will need the NX apps (obviously), a copy of jackflash and jacksprat no stub. It's really not that bad if you have the right copy of jacksprat...
Ok, what's the difference in JackFlash and JackSprat? Can I have one or the other, or both or what?

Jacksprat deletes Apps in ROM that "cant" be deleted. Jackflash transfer normal apps to the ROMs.

I just happend to save a text file with 2 of the explanations on how to get the NX programs in the NR that were posted on that 19 pages post...here they go:
Exp# 1:
I managed to get it working using Yishow and a Memory stick. Just place the NX address book, memo pad, todo and date book
files on the memory stick on the root directory using msimport.
I then launched yishow and went to memory stick and launched apps. SHOCK HORROR!!! No more addresses memos todos or date
book entries....!!! Very worried I made a backup of all entries on computer before hotsyncing...
Upon hotsync all addresses todos and memos and datebook entries were back and I now have hires +!!!!
Exp#2:
Still with me? OK. Armed with this new JackSprat, here is the order of operation....
1) load the new NX application(s) into RAM (as has been
documented on this thread - can be done with hotsync or by copying it over from memory stick using FileZ),
2) Time to remove the old application from ROM. This is done,
one-at-a-time by opening JackSprat, getting to the application list, tapping on the black triangle next to where it says
"OS" then tapping on delete.
With the new version of JackSprat, this process will completely remove the application from ROM. As I'd mentioned before,
the older version of Jack Sprat will leave a Stub in ROM. If you tried this already with the older version, you will have
to remove the stub. Look for an entry says "xxxx Stub" (where xxxx is the name of the already removed application) and it
will say "OLD" next to the little triangle. You'll have to tap on the triangle and select "new" to delete the stub.
Whichever of these actions you take, JackSprat will reset the Clie after the deletion takes place.
3) after the reset DO NOT DO ANY HOTSYNCING UNTIL YOU GET TO
STEP 5.
4) After Jack Sprat resets then go to JackFlash select the NX
application that is already in RAM (from step 1) that is replacing the one you just deleted. Change it from RAM to FLASH
and tap on UPDATE.
5) That's it, you've replaced one of your four built-in
applications with the new version.
6) repeat the above for the remaining applications you want to replace.
OK a couple of things more:
A) The new NX applications always launch with the virtual
graffiti area displayed. You have to tap on the arrow in the status bar to get the full screen.
B) The address application will no longer be able to display
photos. If you use this feature, you probably won't want to go with the new application (in RAM or Flash)
C) I can't emphasize enough the need to make sure you have your data files backed up (just in case). Backup Buddy saved my
bacon several times while I was experimenting with this.
Good Luck!
Hey thanks! I'm waiting to justify JackFlash (I have to panic about it. Either that or YiShow first.... ) When that happens do I just email the guy to get this "stub-free" version?
Oh rquin, as soon as do register and I get a good rom copy I'll zap it over to you! Hang in there :(
Gotcha

Yeeehaa! I just did it with with the Exp# 1! Works like a charm :))
Just copied the NX files to the memory stick, used Yishow to run them, syncronize and welcome full screen! ..... and didn't lost anything!
