View Full Version : Ready to buy NX80V but...

After visiting this board for the last week I'm ready to buy an NX80V. And I've decided to purchase it from a local BM so that I can walk in for repairs or replacement. I have checked and locally the prices are full retail, so that won't affect my decision.

The deciding factor will be which store will offer the best after sale service in the form of an extended warranty plan.

I've narrowed it down to Circuit City and CompUSA. Our mistreatment at Best Buy has eliminated them from the running.

So... what's your experience with the extended warranties at CC and CompUSA? I'm open to other retailers in Northern California, but haven't found any.

Thanks in advance,

The problem is that all of them are now going through major changes. Additionally, treatment at every store isn't necessarily the same. CompUSA did give the best coverage for screen breakage and upgrades, but now someone reported that it is no longer a walk in the store deal now, if your looking for exchange. Of course CompUSA is also the most expensive. Basically it's a crap shoot anyway I look at it. It's what is in writing that counts, not what the salesperson says.

YOur wrong! Compusa may have crappy stuff behind their name but I just bought my NX80 for 539 there(advertised price) and got the Carry-In plan where it includes cracked screen and all the things that CC and BB include but with some extra stuff. SOoo say in 2 years you drop your pda and cracked the screen, the manager that sold me my clie told me that I would be able to return for the same one(if its in stock) or get the money back for how much you bought for and get the newer model. BUT im not sure if they did in fact changed the plan.

P DaWg:

I was at CompUSA yesterday and they want full retail ($599). I just checked their website and it's $599 there too.

Was there a sale that passed me by or were there special circumstances that made it possible to get it for $539? Finally, what do I need to do to get that price?

Thanks in advance,

It was a one week sale. You could buy online at $539.00 or print out a PDF with some specials on it. One of the specials was 10% off ALL PDA's.

I just ordered a NX70 online and I am now waiting for delivery. Hopefully Friday.

Thanks for the info.

I can wait until this weekend to see if any similar offers are available, but I need to order the NV80 ASAP.

I bought my NX80V with a $75 off $500 at Office Depot. I took that coupon to Circuit City because I wanted the warranty, and they honored it. In fact, when I went, I realized one I got in the store that I had left the coupon at home (I had to run other errands). So I asked if I could get on a computer to pull it up and show them.

Get this: They said don't worry about it, and they gave me $75 off my pruchase right on the spot without ever seeing the coupon. And the coupon was for use online, which they knew also.

Nickster,

Thanks for the idea. I'll check and see if anybody who would be considered a competitor has any on-line coupons available.

We could shortcut the process if anyone knows of any available coupons.

I just talked to the salesman I usually buy from at CompUSA and he said there are some changes being made, but they will honor the terms of the warranty that applied when I purchased it. You would like to think that this applies at all their stores but, at the risk of sounding a bit self centered, at least I'm covered!

Same here in DC, MD, VA area. And they did not honor the full price!!! They give me the street value for my PPC which I trade in and upgrade to NX70, have to pay more money for it. And they try to force me into buying another warrenty from them.

Nickster,

Thanks for the link. I checked the site and couldn't find anything that could be used for this situation.

I decided to buy the NX80 today with a 14 day low price guarantee. I'll keep an eye out for discount, promotions and coupons for the next two weeks as I enjoy my new Clie.

Thanks to everyone who helped.

My expieriece with the CompUSA coverage is VERY bad!!!! They tell you one thing when you buy it and then do the opposite when you need to use the insurance policy!!! Beware!! Also, the restocking fee that they charge on things is criminal! I don't shop there anymore.
