BTW, I love mine. Best bet is to get a wireless access point with a built-in router for the easiest setup and not requiring the PC to be running while using the Clie.
Most of the time I find surfing with the Clie on Wi-Fi to be a little slower or about the same speed as dial-up. The network I sniff onto at my workplace is very slow, sometimes unusable, but I think it's located a couple floors up, and I'm just glad it's there at all.
The slow speed combined with the small screen make Clie surfing something I very rarely do at home when I could just wake up my computer and have a real screen and broadband speed. But when you're out somewhere and need info off the web, and your options are to surf on your Clie or not surf at all, it's worth the wait for pages to load.
When you get the Clie and Wi-Fi card, you'll have lots of questions about what settings to use, for networks at home or work, or for sniffing onto random networks. The answers for just about any situation are already in the wireless forum, and a search should turn up whatever settings you need.
