Just curious... has anyone gotten MS Backup to work flawlessly? I think this is the biggest piece of crap software on my Clie. Didn't work for my NX70, and still doesn't work for my NX80. Always end up getting a fatal error.

Opinions/advice, anyone??

I do a MS Backup almost every day, and have done about 3 restores.

Has worked flawlessly for me on my NX80.

I haven't had any problems with the MS, but then I use it for storing my ebooks.

There has been nothing else as reliable as MS Backup.

If your having a problem, then you may have a corrupted file being backuped or some clash with another app! Overclocking can cause issues too.

When beta testing, I have restored many-many times from MS Backup. No other backup app has been as reliable.

ditto!. MS Backup has saved me many headaches. Very few problems.

Backup works fine on my NX80. Just curious, did you hotsynch your NX70 backup directly to your NX80? If so, n2ifp may be correct in suspecting a corruption in RAM or on your MS. If you had problems on your NX70 AND you are now having problems with MS Backup on your NX80, you might have transferred a preexisting problem to the new Clie.

I find the MS Backup works fine..

However if you do a backup then, once it has completed hit the hotsync button, without pressing anything else then it crashes and you have to rest your clie..

At least this is what happens on my NX70V/E

I use MSBackup everyday of the week except Saterday and it works flawlessly. I've had to restore twice (both because of trying out new software). This program is great.

I originally tried hotsynching my NX70 to my NX80, but then had to start from scratch b/c it didn't work right. I really do suspect that a program is causing the problem, but I don't know which.

Unfortunately, I prescribe the hard reset, start-from-scratch method of troubleshooting. Others claim that removing one app or utility at a time can sometimes uncover the offender. I tend to believe that the problem is often deeper than an app alone and might be caused by some leftover or corrupted code in a preference-type file. I am not a programmer so this is my 'educated hunch'.

If you do a hard reset and synch only your four primary conduits with Outlook or the Palm Desktop, try running MS Backup and see what happens. If it works fine, then something in your current system was causing the problem. Next, start loading apps and any corresponsing databases one (or two or three) at a time and test. Load, test and repeat till you are done.

If you never find an offending app, then you can pretty much assume you had a corrupted file. If you do find an app that conlicts with MS Backup, let us know.

Michael me boy, methinks there is something afoul with your setup. I use MS backup at least once a week and have restored from it a few times. It works flawlessly on my NX70V.

Do you use PiDirect II? I had problems until I went into PiDirect II settings and had PiDirect II turn itself off while MSBackup is working. I went through several backup programs that kept crashing until I figured this out.

I use MSBackup regularly it works flawlessly. After I restore my handheld from MSBackup, I run PowerRun, restore my shortcuts and voila!

i use MSBackup before installing any new programs, and have (thankfully) only had to restore once. It worked fine with me.

Does MSBackup not work on Saturday?

The only reason I use BackupMan is 'cos of the automatic scheduled backup everyday. If MSBackup did that ...........

Never had a problem with either. BackupMan is just as reliable on my machine and I've done many restores.

NICE!! I gotta get me backupman.

I use both, just in case, some have had bad experience with Backupman. One major flaw with Backupman, since it is one big file, if any part of it gets corrupted, it's done for. With MS Backup, it has individual files that can be manually copied.

True but I've never had it corrupt ever but I suppose it could happen in a rare case. You'd have to be pretty unlucky though. BTW you can still restore individual files through BackupMan (as long as the archive hasn't been corrupted) for those of you wondering if it's possible or not.

Irregardless, I don't trust it! I had problems when doing restores on my NX70. MS Backup saved the day, you have been forewarned!:D

OK Larry, but you make it sound like it's a big problem and I'm just letting others know that I've never suffered from it. There were some issues before version 1.3 due to some files from OS5 being backed up that caused a crash with restoring but that has been corrected now.

BTW when are you not online? ;) You are everywhere mate!

I never had a problem with it either, Dags. So obviously, it isn't universal :).
