As far as I know, without modification or a 3rd party app, no can do.

You will still need the IR receiver, which already comes with the PS2 DVD remote.

Actually that brings me to another point: are there add on files for the clie remote for lesser known TVs? like Sanyo and Amark TVs? i lost my remote a long time ago so i cant train it in omniremote.

No there are no more addon codes for Clie Remote - that would be handy though.

Keep in mind there are actually only 6-10 frequency ranges for remote controls, so if you look through the list of supported TVs you will most likely find a set that's working for your TV as well. Example: Siemens TVs use the same coding as Grundigs

You can use OmniRemote though

Is there a list somewhere that has something along the lines of a compatibility chart?

I may be missing something here, and therefore stating the obvious, but I followed the Omnilink link and it states that it works for all palms EXCEPT for the NX series.

Is there something else we can use for our NX's?

If you go to OmniRemote's web site (www.pacificneotek.com, click on downloads, then advanced) they do have a version that works with the NX...however it only uses the weaker IR, not the high power. This results in very little range, I hear it's less than 5 feet. I remember reading somewhere, but can't find the link, that they are trying to find out how to use the high powered IR.

the compatibility chart I referred to was with the cliermc not OR.
What do we do if we dont have a remote to train the omniremote with? i just awnted to know what the off brands matched up with on the clie remote.

Anyone had any luck of finding a match for ZENITH TVs? All the TVs at my school are Zenith, and I'd love to turn one on during lecture in history... :)

Got to try it on my Orian VCR. If anyone succeeds before me, tell me which brand it's on OK?

By the way, can you use the remote for sony hifi systems?

I have been exchanging emails with the OmniRemote developers. What I have found out is that they are in the process of reverse engineering the more powerful IR. They explained that Sony does not help them at all. I sent an email this weekend to get an update. My last exchange was January 13th and at that time, I had the impression that the new version of OmniRemote that would work with the NX was several weeks out (not months). That is a guess and I am hoping to have more information sometime this week ... if I get a reply.

Well, I did get some more information regarding OnmiRemote and NX70. This is the reply I received from the developer. He gave me permission to post this here:

I literally spent days staring through a microscope at the Clie motherboard. I also tried to hack it from the software end. I ended up grinding all the major chips off the motherboard with a milling machine just to figure out what was going on in there. I eventually managed to trace the consumer IR emitter control to pin E13 on an NEC gate array (NEC part number 65943, part of their CMOS-9HD family). There is very little I can do at this point. A gate array is a programmable circuit which has an internal protection mechanism to prevent people from reverse-engineering it. I know which output on the gate array I want to control, but there's no way to know what Sony programmed into it (and thus how to control it). As if that weren't enough, this particular gate array chip has over 150 pins (PBGA).

At this point I'm trying (once again) to convince Sony to give me the information (since the hacking efforts don't seem to be paying off). I have some new contacts at Sony and I'm hoping this may help.

So we are once again at the mercy of Sony. Do we have enough people here to start another petition like the CF petition? :)

I will update again if they send me more information.

Thanks,
Derecho

The only way to get Sony's attention is their wallet! I wonder how many are going to rush out and buy the new NZ90?

In other words, maybe it's time for a boycott!

Does OmniRemote only have the functions of the original PS2 remote (or whatever remote you train with)?

I was looking for a remote that could also power off or reset the PS2 (which the original does not do) instead of having to push the button on the front. If OmniRemote can't do that, does anyone know of a solution?
Thanks.

To the best of my knowledge, this is just something that a remote via the PS2's controller port just can not do. It's a limitation of the PS2 if I recall correctly.
