View Full Version : SMS app comes with NX73V?

ultraman

I just received my nx73v/E today, euro version with bluetooth.

It comes with Decuma and Grafiti1, not 2

I also noticed this APP called SMS, which looks like a SMS app for mobiles.

I haven't found this reported on the message boards so I thought I'd share this with you guys.

I haven't found the phone drivers for my t610 yet, but will report more when i find out.

I can confirm that jackflash doesn't work on the NX73V yet.

Version used : 3.08b

From the manuals that come with the NX73V/E:

SMS (for models with built-in Bluetooth™ functionality only)

You can send and retrieve messages and data via a connected GSM wireless device using the Short Message Service (SMS) application. This gives you a two-way paging functionality, and an easy way to read and respond to messages that have arrived on your wireless device.

Send messages
You can send messages from your CLIÉ™ handheld via a connected GSM wireless device, such as a mobile phone.

Note
There are some limitations when sending files via SMS.

Requirements
• GSM mobile phone: You can connect and send PDA data managed on your CLIÉ™ handheld.
• Phone driver: You need to install a phone driver on your CLIÉ™ handheld to use the SMS application.

Where did you purchase your NX73?

I am trying to find a store or dealer in Europe that will send the European version to the states. I want the embedded bluetooth and SMS program.

Hello all, where do I get the Phone Driver.

I have a t68i and have not luck in getting the Phone Driver.

The BT MS can sync with my Mac but dialing to the t68i fails miserably.

Any help is appreciated.

I want too to try out the mobile SMS via BT on my UX. Why is there no such application pre-installed with the UX since it's got Bluetooth?

Eddy, Cant you download it somewhere?
And yes the SMS app is fantasic. In bed and away from the phone, you hear the "beep, beep" of an incoming message. Pick up the Clie, go to SMS, press the "Send/Receive" button and there it is. And messages written in the Clie and sent through the phone, (I use a Nx73v and SE T610 Ultraman) is never stored on the phone, thus not clogging up its inbox.

! Ihmorinv !
This is the link to the Sony Generic Phone Driver. Works fine even though occasionally you get an error, just ignore the warning and it Still works!!!

Eddy,
I had on the 770 something downloaded from Palm. I tought it was called Phone. I could dail and send SMS (with the same program as on the €-NX) via ir. I'm not sure if I have it anymore, but I'll search my archive :D

But doesn't the BT-stick come with the SMS program? Maybe someone with the BT-stick could post it then?

Otherwise you could try funSMS (http://www.fun4palm.de/english/index.htm). It's shareware, though. But it has some added functions over Palm's SMS, like number recognition (if number is in Adress).

Firstly I'd like to thank you all, so kindly as to reply to my inquiry about the SMS application, didn't think I'd get much response. You guys are great! & secondly, you all addressed me by name, that just leaves me speechless.... I mean... don't get me wrong. I just work in service industry & have one of those name tags with my name on them, but how often do you actually address them by name? I find the same situation here too. :D

wow, that sounds like a sweet application, & so cool that you can leave your phone alone, & just play around with your CLIE with the SMS. I want to play with it..... I'll check out the link you sent me, is that what you're currently using? Doesn't the NX73 Euro. come with pre-built SMS application? Thanks again. :p
off topic
So there's BT service for the underground in London now right? How does one apply? Is there like a one day service? I often travel so trying to find as much places where I can log on to the net while I'm going out to downtown Oxford Circus or something. :D

Thank you for the link of the funSMS, I'll check it out later, though I'd prefer something that was an original application from Sony.
& I love your new avatar, it's the NX73 Euro. with BT, looks so cool. Something that acts as a trademark, once I see that avatar, I know it's your right away. :p (shouldn't change it, otherwise it'll be harder to trace you. LOL ;)

Thank you both once again. I'll see what I can do with the SMS thing now. Cheers.

Eddy,
Yep I have a euro NX73v with bluetooth and SMS built-in. Everything there in one neat little (sic) package!

BUT WOH...what's this about Bluetooth on the Tube. I live in town and know NOTHING. (Note to self - remove head from sand!) So is it internet access or what?

Info please....?

so you mean you have the BT SMS tool pre-installed on your NX73? *Hint* :p

Well, about the underground, I just heard reviews, I don't know, I've just read an article somewhere that the underground would start offering internet service, but forgot if it was Bluetooth or Wireless. Sorry. :D

You're welcome
Maybe it's an idea for here: On the Dutch Palmclub you can put you first name under your avatar. For those who didn't use their own name in their screenname. Just like "location".

offtopic :p I think I hold on to this avatar. Took me a while to find one wich I liked. It's a photo of my own NX with Kristanna/T-X as ZL background. I like the blue-lighted eye on T-X's exposed half on the right (the rest too :D). It suits well with the BT light :D And the orange color in the name represents Holland.

for some reason those files didn't work.....
I haven't got a clie to why, there was just a prompt saying that the "localizer is not correct so the application will not run properly". By the way, I have a Japanese UX50, if that causes any difference. suggestions?

simonjonknight
09-23-2003, 03:33 PM
hmm, that's interesting. I'll see what Gorto has to say as he has the files too. If he's watching...where's his machine from and what are the results?

Hey, Eddy - off topic - are you in San Fran or Hong Kong now, only I'm off to SF tomorrow?

Eddy, you could walk with a MS and FileZ into a store wich sells the Japanese NZ90 or TG50 and get SMS from one of them.

:D

I haven't got a clie to why
So, if you understand why, you do have a Clié? :p

Oh and I think that localizer error has to do with the fact that those files are from a European (multi-lingual) machine and that prolly clashes with the Japanese OS.

simonjonknight
09-23-2003, 04:37 PM
is your japanese machine in characters or english but with character support?
Defiant might have a point, but perhaps the "borrowing" from another machine in a shop might get your collar felt!

If you need the files/assistance/help....just say the word and I'll do what I can.

Yeah, but that's the one thing hard to do in Hong Kong, it's like the sales persons are watching you constantly, awaiting to lecture you on the product features. You can't even play with their unit without them noticing. So much for freedom. :p
Oh, & all the Japanese units should be sold out already too. Because most users prefer English based OS. (I'm the minor few who uses the Japanese OS. :()

Once again I must say your avatar is really nice, it's transparrent in background so it looks cool with both white background & purple background. :D

I'm using a pure Japanese unit UX50, so that would be the main problem more or less. It the kernal that's Japanese based, not a character support application. :(

surely can use the files/assistance/help...
I don't know what to say, speechless as I am... thank you in advance for even suggesting to help. :p

I tried installing SMS into my NX80V/H, couldn't get it to work. After I copied the 6 files to RAM, no icon show up in ZLauncher. I exited to default launcher then I get an icon that look like a blue circle with a pen on top labeled SMS. I tapped it, my Clie crashed. Reset, try again, no good again. Check the files with FileZ, SMS was 0 byte, so I copied the files again. This time I got into an endless crashing loop. Tried every trick I know to get out of it, but I had to hard reset at the end.

Dear keeperkeith, is there any way to get just the "sms tool" alone because I've tried installing your file, I also get an icon that look like a blue circle with a pen on top labeled SMS. & 2 RemoteCam icon. (1 pre-installed, the other generated by the zip file.)
Also once I soft reset, goes into loop of soft-resets.:(

& since I'm using a Japanese UX50, installing that zip file also overwrite the connection settings on my UX50 (within preference), it's changed from Japanese to English now....
*something I wouldn't want.... because it might cause conflict with other applications that also uses the original Japanese connection settings. Any idea?

So I guess I'm force to leave it out for now?
Or must I download the phonelink driver mentioned above as well? Pls help....Many thanks in advance.

Well I hear a lot of great working sms-apps and got to admit, that on my european NZ90 the sms app is that bad, that I won't use it anymore. Too may people answerd me that there phone's showed error-messages or scrambled text's.

So I look for a working SMS-Bluetooth solution, but as much as I know is funsms the only bt sms solution apart of sony's build in application. And as much as I know does funsms only work with the bt-memory-stick and not for the devices with build in bluetooth like the nz90, tg50 and ux50?

Well, I am sad to say that I have tried almost every way to install the 28 files in SMS_Full.zip and the two Sony Generic phone drivers into RAM, and I still can't get the thing to work.

I get a Fatal Alert (MemeoryMgr.c, Line:3583 Free Handle) when I try to do pretty much anything (like select the SMS preferences) in the SMS application.

If I go to 'Preferences' I now have a 'Phone' option where I can select my Connection - this seems OK. but when I try to 'Test' the the connection I get another error message 'Unable to load Phone Services - Please re-install Phone Services as described in your documentation' - the last 5 words are difficult for me to follow...

But the most annoying part of is that actual SMS app refuses to work

I have an NX70V/E with 3.7M of space (thanks to Jack) and I'm trying to connect to Nokia 6310i via IR.

Any help gratefull rec'd.

TIA

Happy Birthday c0mm0n! :D

well, I'm still stuck with no luck with the "Tap & Dial" in AddressBook, it just won't work. :(

I've tried funSMS, just straight forward, send SMS, but it doesn't offer the "Tap & dial" feature. What's with this? do you have to have BT active full time, like it's handshaking with a device first before you can use "Tap & Dial"? The most funniest thing is that even the JP units don't have SMS function, it has the "Tap & Dial" so what is it there for???

c0mm0n, on your UX50, tap on AddressBook.
Tap on Properties/Option/Setting....
You'll see a check box for "Enable Tap-Dial or Dap-Mailer".
Once I checked that box, I can click on any email address & ClieMail will popup an email page. But when I tap on a phone number nothing happens but I will go into edit mode.

Did sony mention anything about how the phone numbers need to be standardised or what? :p

My gf owns japanese TG-50 and I tried to find SMS app you guys mentioned here. I could not find this program nor on the handheld itself, nor in the installation disk, probably because Japan does not use SMS but uses different messaging system within country.

Still looking for ways to make this sms app work in japanese TG-50 (although we dont go out of Japan often)

Follow this link and you will find this sms software, Dial! , it works great, it is freeware, and there is a new beta version 2.0 with bluetooth support.
Able to send , receive and archive SMS on your palm.
It even has the option of sending "flash sms", which means that the sms displays automatically on the phone (no need to open it!)
I use it with NX70 and siemens phone, it works just fine.
Have fun.
