Two failures so far, with my new Clie SJ-33
1.) I haven't been able to put any music on my 33, because I don't know how. I thought I was doing it right, I used the supplied utility programme, but it wouldn't recognise my Clie as being there to load into. In the devices list there's nothing. MY 33 was connected, with its memory stick in place, so what am I missing?
2.) Adobe Acrobat is on the Clie, but when I send pdf files to the Clie from my desktop they don't seem to arrive. They show on the list on the PC. I followed the instructions to sync, they appear to be snycing, but they sink without trace. Acrobat reader on the 33 has an empty list, no files seem to be detected.
Is there a solution?
Have you installed the MSExport in order to install the MS driver to PC?

Possibly not, since I didn't have the MS when I first set the machine up. Thanks, I'll do that when I log off, but it begs the question, why doesn't the Clie or the PC end software tell me (us) that there's something wrong, instead of appearing to be doing its stuff?

You should use MS import (need to have MSexport installed), you just have to put your MP3 (not in variable rate) in the folder
/PALM/Programs/MSAUDIO
For PDF files I recommend you "Repligo" it will sync almos ANY file in ANY format, the rule is simple, if you can print it, you can view it with Repligo

I guess they assume people read the "Read This First" manual, before they venture out. Reading that manual first really saves you a lot of time.

Get something else to read PDFs besides Adobe Reader for the Palm......that is probably the worst behaved app I've ever used. No matter what I did, it would not consistently sync and find PDF files on the MS.

...And in fact I had read all the docs, and already installed the msexport software, when I looked. But I'd still like to get the thing working the way it should, MP3 and PDF files loaded across and useable.
The real issues still remain, why the music software doesn't see the Clie, and why the Acrobat s/w doesn't see the pdf files.

I doubt if you will ever get the Acrobat software to read propoerly. I've followed ever direction, installed, re-installed, reset....nothing. The Adobe software just does not function correctly on my SJ-22. Others have had success, but I have never been able to get it to work properly. in fact, in a recent thread on CS, Adobe Reader for Palm OS typically was right up there as some of the worst software ever released.

To get MP3s on your Clie, install MSExport on your PC. When that is done, hook up the PDA and run MSImport on it. You should then see a new "removable media" drive in My Computer, which you can use to interface with the Memory Stick. Drag and drop MP3s to the PALM/Programs/MSAUDIO directory. They should then show up.
Sony's SonicStage app only works with white MG MemorySticks ...

Once MS export and MS import are running, you can also just drag and drop the MP3 files onto the MS export icon on the desktop!

Acrobat Reader for Palm has always worked fine for me, and I think the people who're having trouble getting their files to transfer or whose Reader program can't "see" the files they've transferred are simply failing to use the supplied Acrobat Reader conduit (as directed in the supplied User Manual). Doing a simple HotSync with pdf files selected will transfer the files, but your Reader program won't "see" them unless they were transferred via the Reader conduit. The Acrobat system files installed on your Clie ('finger' and 'AdbeDeviceInfo') seem to depend on certain behind-the-scenes functions that are performed by the conduit also, so even if you manage to manually move your pdfs to a directory where the Reader can "see" them, it might not be able to "see" all of them and it might not be able to load the buffer properly. User Manuals are your friend...don't be a Manual hater.

Ok o have a similar problem, i can copy the music to the Memory Stick, but when trying to playback i get an error about copyrighted or wrong file type, and they are in .mp3 format.
Thanks Glenn
What are the bitrate and recording speed of your mp3?

towboy - are you using a MagicGate stick? If so, I think there's some kind of special security encoding required. I think some kind of conversion program comes on the SJ33 CD, but since I don't use MagicGate media I never bothered to study up on that stuff. Regular MSs (without MagicGate encoding) seem to do fine with MP3s for me.

Hi,
I run Adobe straight off the MS, it saves space for more important stuff (on a SL10) and seems to run great, although it takes a few secs to change pages, I can live with that.
Also it is free :-)

The Adobe Reader for the Palm has never worked properly for me, and I've tried all the versions up through 3.0. I have to transfer my PDFs to my MS as I am generally dealing with rather large documents in the 2-4 Mb range (emergency plans, etc.). I've tried both ways to transfer the files to the MS, using both Adobe's conduit as well as third party file managers. There just seems to be no consistency with the reader. Most of the time, the Reader cannot find the files even though they are in the default directly set up by the Adobe conduit. The page changes do tend to get annoying for me though, as a large occupant emergency plan with several graphics of floor plans sometimes takes forever to move from page to page. Part of that is due to the slower processor in my Clie I know.....hmmm, maybe there's a good reason tto suggest my employer buy me an faster machine! :)

Remember that the file should be encoded at sample rate of 44hz or +.
Some programs tend to reduce the sample rate if you encode the file in a low bitrate (<128kbps)

OK OK OK ok ok ok
I finally got it to work. I had to use the MS Export and the MS import on the sont to transfer the files onto my SJ33.... My problem was that i was using a Zio to transfer files from my Pc to the MEM Stick. Thanks for all the Help
