just in case you guys did not know there is a program at palmgear called icon manager.
"Icon Manager lets you create or edit icon sets for use with HandyShopper, DateBk5, DataShield, and Agendus (formerly known as Action Names). Icon Manager also supports high density icons on Palm OS 5.0 devices."
The hi-res icons look very nice in datebk 5 and agendus.
Now I am just waiting for hi-res icon sets.
I would also want to see a program to change fonts in OS5 like fonthack.

I gave a spin the other day. A very nice little program. Unlike dbIcon+, this Icon Manager will not screw up the original transparent color when edit/save the icon set currently out there. Finally, I got my first personalized Agendus Iconset. :)

The program is nice - it lets you create grayscale and HiRes icons. But be warned - if you have an OS4 device, you can't [yet] use the HiRes icons in HandyShopper or DateBk5. It will only work for those programs if you have an OS5 device.
And don't bother with v3bhack, unless you like hard resets!!

This is a great program, and the included icons are beautiful!
However, even though I registered this program with Palmgear, I couldn't download it.
I thought that I had made a mistake with the registration which seemed to be verified by the web site, so I tried again. Still couldn't download, and now it looks like I've paid twice!
So, I emailed the developer (who is also responsible for the equally awesome freeware program: HandyShopper) and he told me that the people at palmgear will treat me right but that he couldn't help me directly - which makes sense and is fine with me, after all my business was with them.
Anyway, all this happened Saturday night and Sunday, so I'm hopeful that this will get solved now that the work-week has begun.

I've used my sony t615 for several hours now using the v3bhack and have had no problems. I'm happily using hires icons in datebk5 on a OS4.1 device. They look great!
I don't quite understand how the icons will look different since the editor is still a 10 x 9 grid to draw them? I would have thought you would have more pixels to use to make them look smoother, etc?
Need some help on this one.

There is a beta of icon manager that allows for creation and viewing of hi-density icons on Palm OS4 clies. It is available on the icon mananger yahoo group. The drawback is that datebk 5, agendus, handy shopper, etc dont support drawing hi-density graphics on Palm OS 4 clies. About v3b hack, I installed it twice and got hard resets. The second time I disabled all hacks, disabled fast cpu, and still could not get it to work. I also have appicon and butterfly installed. I would appreciate any tips on geting v3b hack to work.

So now I´m really confused:confused:
Can I create and watch hires icons in Datebk5 on a Clié T675C or not.
Plaid, can you give me some advice, please?

You will have to wait until datebk 5 supports it.
If you do not want to wait and are feeling adventurous, try v3bhack. This hack is supposed to draw hi-density graphics on Palm OS 4 clies. The link is included on the icon manager readme. I tried it twice and got two hard resets. I am using a Clie T615.
I tried xmaster and tealmaster

The editor looks like it has twice as many grids. The icons are beautiful!

v3bhack worked fine for me - for a while. I am not trying it again, ever. While it worked, it worked fine and showed me the HiRes icons in DateBk5 and HS2 - really awesome!!
The new IconMgr works really well on my N610. I think that you will se a version of HS2 that supports HiRes for OS4 devices soon [it is the same developer for both!!]. DateBk5 should also provide that support sometime in the near future as well.
Have Patience!!

Still having no problems on my T615, running butterfly, xmaster, a ton of other hacks including v3bhack. Nice hires icons. Not sure why others are having problems. Hopefully nothing bad develops later on. I'm making sure I hotsync often ;)

What editor were you using before? I am comparing to dbicon+ which is a 10 X 9 grid the same as this new icon editor and I don't see any difference in the icons?

look at the included handyshopper icons with icon manager and you will see more grids
Ok, what are you guyz smokin'???? I have opened both Icon Manager and DBIcon+ and the grids are IDENTICAL 10X9. I don't see any difference between these editors or the icons they produce?
Am I smokin' somthing maybe???

Don't you have to 'force the issue' unless you have a OS 5 machine??

no, get the newest beta (feb 03) from the iconmgr yahoo users group. The one on palmgear does not support hires icons, afaik.

i think it's also important to use the newest beta of datebk5 (preview 5 or 6)
and maybe some launchers can screw up with v3b. CRSLauncher is a simple launcher and therefore runs w/out problems.

Very confusing thread!
For Palm OS 4.x devices -
Get Icon Manager 1.1 (Chris Antos)
- register for editing capabilities (worth it!!!)
Install XMaster (hack manager)
Install v3bHack http://www.geocities.co.jp/SiliconValley-PaloAlto/7022/v3bhack.html
Activate v3bHack in XMaster
Soft Reset (may not be necessary but just to be safe)
Result on my T665c:
- beautiful icons in Agendus (use low-res display setting to best enjoy the icons)
- beautiful hi-res icons on the mainscreen!
I'm off to search more hi-res icons to use with AppIcons! :D :D

Okay, I am totally lost.
I have IconMgr working find on my 665. The Hi-res icons are showing up great with the help of the v3bHack.
But how do you get hi-res icons through AppIcon?
I can't, for the life of me, figure it out!

vb3Hack v 0.3 locks up my T665C when attempting to set an icon in Datebk5 if the icon set holds hi res icons. I wrote v3b's author, but don't know if he speaks English or not.

The latest version of HandyShopper supports HiRes Icons without using vb3hack. (note that the author of HandyShopper is the same person as the author of Icon Manager).
However, having installed a demo set of HiRes Icons, I find that the HiRes only allows the artist more latitude in making illegible icons.
In other words, the talent of the artist in making something that is clear, even though it is tiny, seems to matter much more than the resolution of the icons.

I can't, for the life of me, figure it out! Go here: http://www.pocketsensei.com/hires.htm
I recommend: Fenestrae, Bebop, and Vista to download. When you look inside the zip file, extract the largest of the .pdb files. That will be the os5 hi-res one. Drop them in your Install Tool, sync, and open Appicon. Drop down menu and select "Set," and "Import." After a second, you should see the three (or whatever files) you installed. Highlight one and select "OK."
Once you've imported them, you can delete the original .pdbs since Appicon actually copies them into its own db. Enjoy! ;)
I have converted all of my Agendus collection of icons to hi-res, over 255 of them. Even made a few of my own. I'm no artist, but it really is fairly easy to make nice ones once you get the hang of it. For instance I made a PBX (phone system) since I'm in telecommunications that looks pretty close to a real one. I'll use that fairly often.
