I am brand new to the pda world with my clie t615c. I have a huge database of names and address on an excel spreadsheet that I would like downloaded into the clie. I do not have any data management software, only outlook express and shudder at the thought of of inputing that data individually. Is there any software out there that can convert the data into a format that palm os can except?

Do you have outlook? I guess as you have excel you have office and therfore outlook.  If you do, save your excel sheet as tab delimited text, go to outlook, import data and you will have to create a custom map, ie show the map name in the tabbed file to name in outlook.  You can then use outlook to manage all your contacts and hotsync this with your clie.

I use outlook as my master source and that updates my contacts on my clie and on my phone, it works really well.

You may even try out Sheet To Go it works too.

I just have outlook express and can't figure out how to input all of this data in the right format so that I can access it on the pda by the individual names and addresses. I have already downloaded that actual spreadsheet into the clie but it's a bit of a pain to scroll thru the info.

You can import csv's into outlook express.  open your spreadsheet and try and make sure that the data is consistant (ie firstname always in column b for example).

Go to file - Save as and save as an msdos csv

Go into outlook express, open your address book and go to file - import - other address book, choose text file (csv) and browse to your csv.

You then need to go through the process of mapping your column in your csv to the relavent type.  Can be a bit tedious but should get your contacts into oe and certainly less tedious than doing it manually if you have a lot.

Thank you so much for your suggestions.
I now have a slight problem. I loaded outlook onto my computer and transfered my spreadsheet data to the address book and it worked beautifully. I am confused as to what to do after you import the data into outlook. How do you customize the map? When I tried to transfer the tdt. file info into the palm organizer fields, the imported data all joined together and would not separate.
Not to be outdone, I tried your suggestion on outlook express and got most of my data in the right place on palm org fields except that it won't read my state and zip code info that was on the original spreadsheet. It saves as a csv file correctly but when I import the info I get everything in the right place except for the state and zip code. My original speadsheet fields are first name, last name, street address, state, zipcode and telephone number.
What am I doing wrong, o wise one?

I also downloaded several files from the net for my clie but their icons are not showing up and I can't access them. I can see that the files are in there but how can I get to them?

If the downloads are apps that you have installed to your Clie, are you viewing ALL categories? Many apps find their way to a particular category upon installation; still others land in the "unfiled" category.

Happy Hunting :)

I do view all catagories and I still don't see the icons and can't access the programs. When I go into the info catagory from the main app menu, I do see the programs listed.
