I just recieved an email from Mergic:


Hi,

There is an initial Mergic VPN for Palm OS 5 Beta release available for download at http://www.mergic.com/OS5Beta.php. To download the beta you'll need to enter your e-mail address. This release will expire on Oct. 15, 2003.

My apologies that getting this out has taken so long but there were many issues to resolve. As far as I know, other than Tungsten C's built-in Mergic PPTP client, this is still the only VPN client available for OS 5. And the good news is that the release should work on all OS 5 devices and connection types including the Tungsten T w/Bluetooth and the Sony CLIE w/WiFi adapters.

Please keep in mind that this is Beta release. There are a couple of limitations that are listed in the readme.txt that comes with the release. The readme is short and I recommend reading through it.

If you would like to be removed from this Beta mailing list go to:

I haven't been to campus (where PPTP is required) to test the beta yet, but I'm looking forward to being online when I should be taking notes. ;)

Ya, I have to go to my campus to try it out too. I thought with the upcoming Palm OS6 Mergic just gave up on the idea of a OS5 VPN.

Also, you have to be part of a beta list to get this trial VPN, not available to the public (if anyone wants to know).

yeah, that's what i just discovered....now the question is, how do i become a beta poster, or can someone post the zip file. i keep both a nz90 and h5555, one of the main reasons for the h5555 is i need vpn support....so i'd love the os5 version.

i also noted this on mergic's faq site - i hope it is fixed with the beta.

A: No, the Sony PEGA-WL100 Wireless LAN Card doesn't use the Palm OS virtual driver interfaces that are required by Mergic VPN to encrypt network traffic.

Sorry, shoulda made that more clear. However, it may be worth your time to email Mergic and ask to test it. All I did was ask if there was a version coming for the NX, and that was a few months ago.

Thank you anyway, I have no need for it currently. I went to take a look at it and then tried to download it. I only wanted to look at the program.:)

From past posts by other members, there is definite need.

As a follow up, I tried the VPN driver out on campus today and it appeared to work just fine. The VPN server was having trouble today, so I could only load pages within the campus domain. But it looks like I can finally use my NX70 on campus!

Are you using the wl100 or the wl110 to surf? Also, should it matter?
