SmbMate Server, now you can swap files via a WiFi File Manager between your memory cards and the desktop PC's shared hard drives and/or network printers on the WLAN.
Please check out this thread, BTW it's freeware and it's great!!!

I still have chills down my spine over it. Many have been looking just for an app like this. Almost too good to be true, but I am not complaining. Many more will be thrilled, when they discover it. I just wish I could advertise it more without being an annoyance, ha-ha!
I am certainly glad to hear you like it and your Welcome!!!

Ditto! I'm thrilled beyond repair. :)
Now I'm more interested in finding a TXT file reader and an offline HTML file viewer than I had been (Hmmm..... QuickWord ought to be able to do the latter.) I'm off to do some investigation.
Has anyone tried connecting to a printer and dumping a file to it? How'd it go?

Works great for Windows. Anyone try Mac OSX?

Greetings!
I've been doing further experimentation with this application. While I still think it is the best thing since the invention of the toaster, there does seem to be at least 1 bug in the program. Maybe it is a memory limitation? I'm not sure. What I am experiencing is that if I select a folder with several thousand files in it, it will return an error message instead of listing the files. Has anyone else confirmed this?
Best regards,
Bawko

I saw that too, and have tried but can't figure the settings. I'm a PC guy, and good with MACs too, but can't seem to get the settings correct.
I've got the IP, not quite sure I have the path right, and I know I have the right user name and password, but don't know what the group/domain should be. These settings I think are called different things on the MAC side. Anyone set this up for their mac?

I'm the one that said I had it working on a Mac. It took me a bunch of tries, but this is what I have.
Under General:
Name: User-definable, I called it "Mac"
Resource Path: my computer's network address on my home network, followed by my user name on the computer, in the format:
\\x.x.x.x\username
Resource type: Disk
IP Address: Again, my network address (if you need to find this, check under "sharing" in system prefs, it should be displayed near the top.)
Under Login:
Username: My user name for the computer, same as above
Group / Domain: The group name of my network, which is "HOME" though I couldn't for the life of me actually find where this is displayed. Just now I tried it with this field blank and it still works.
Password: My user password for the computer
Under More: (Left unchanged)
Translate charsets unchecked
PDA's charset: Win1251
Server's Charset: Dos866
Hope this works for you.

Oh, thanks! I will try this tonight when I get home.
Did you prepare a folder and set its share options, or did these settings allow you to see everything that that log in user can see when logged in on the MAC?

One of the things that I think was originally preventing me from getting it working was that I didn't have windows file sharing activated. Sometimes it seems to get unchecked by itself. On the services tab of sharing preferences, I have everything checked now. I didn't have to set up a shared folder, I can see all my files.

KP*, thanks for the info. I was doing everything except using the IP address in the resource path. I am able to access the guest, and the one, other created user i have, but not the Admin user.
It seemed I had to attempt the loggin several times before getting it to work. any thoughts on why I can't loggin as the administrator?
This is really cool-very fast. I have configs for both my PC laptop and imac, now.
Hi to all users!
Does anybody know the email contact from this guy, who wrote smbmate? It would be really helpfull!
thx

I don't really have enough technical knowledge of the Mac to figure out why it wouldn't work, but I can tell you that my account is an admin and it works, so there's not a block against logging in admins. I'm using 10.2.6, if that makes any difference.

Your Welcome!
It's not that old, but I agree it's fantastic app. I was hoping more would spot it and use it once they realize it's capabilities, with more to be added! On top of all that, it's FREE!!!

Yes! Get the SmbMate app and read the excellent documentation that comes with it.

Go to either Windows Explorer or to My Computer. Right click on the disk drive or drives, internal or external. Select properties, everything you need to know or populate is right there.
For printers, then you need to go into Control Panel, select printers, and basically do the same thing. Printers may not be fully supported yet and that is covered in the documentation I believe. If not, it was covered in the thread by the author in the wireless forum.
Right, only doctor's have patients!:D
