I recently bought a clie nx70v, and many of the older apps that worked on my Palm IIIe, doesn't work on my clie, is it due to os 5? Is there a solution?

Yes, many olders apps may not work on OS5, some do. Most older apps have newer versions that take advantage of the HiRes screen that are far nicer. I could never go back, I like the eye candy too much! Additionally, some of the older apps may not even apply anymore. You'll have to take it on a case by case basis.

I think he's talking about a pixel doubler, much like on my old 625. I haven't seen any, and there seems to be no hardware support in the nx, but it still should be possible.

The pixel doubler seems to now be built into the OS. I have some apps that needed Switchdash on OS4 that run perfect on my NX. I would bet the apps that don't work involved graphics and didn't follow the rules laid out by the OS under pre-OS5 versions. But two apps that I have that contain graphics must be following the rules, since I've had no problem and the graphics seem to be doubled just as they were using high-res assist under OS4.

But keep in mind the TT still has a preference tab for enabling hi-res support much like the older Clie's. That was causing problems with some older apps like Minipolis. As an example, the new version claims OS5 support but when attempting to launch on the NX, it says to turn off that preference. I emailed them and they emailed me an NX compatible version. It seems like an easy fix for some developers. Just email them and find out if they have a compatible version out there. Most developers are really nice and usually will let you beta test their hi-res upgraded apps.

Wow, I'm very surprised to hear that. Clies had that preference since the 710, and when they dumped it for the NX, I assumed that no OS5 device would have it. Very strange.

Yeah, I was surprised to. The same thing happens for GemSlider (one of my fave games). They claim it's OS5 compatible, but when I try to launch it, I get the "Please uncheck hi-res support in Preferences" message.

Keep in mind the TT has a completely different preference pane than the NX, for all settings.

Yeah, I'm a little surprised too since my TT doesn't have and doesn't need this option.

Uhm... actually, no program that accesses the display memory directly works on the nx the kind of app you're talking about is the one that uses some kind of form. I was more talking of games
