View Full Version : MS Import Problem

Hi all!
It'd be great if someone had any suggestions or even answers relating to a problem I have been having in getting movies and voice clips tranferred from my Clie to my PC. MS Import connects to my computer fine. I can browse my Memory Stick and see all the files. I can copy small files over without trouble. However, when I select a large number of files on my MS through Windows Explorer, select "copy" and try pasting them on my computer, the first few files are copied OK but then it always gets stuck on a file. The screen on my NX70V then returns to the "Connected to the PC" screen (in other words, the additional words "Do NOT Remove Memory Stick", indicating a transfer is in progress, disappear). After a couple minutes I get a Windows error that just says "Parameter is incorrect". Multiple palm and PC resets do not solve the problem. Even if I try ONLY copying the one file at which it got stuck after all this, it will not do so. In some cases Windows Explorer will freeze up just by clicking the file icon of this file. I CAN open the file with winamp (in the case of a voice clip), and it will play fine. Selecting a couple other files to copy works fine, but that file will not copy. I know it is not corrupted, as it plays both on my Clie and in winamp by opening it from Windows Explorer. I also know this from the fact that I have had this problem several times, and eventually it has always let me copy the file in question. (Sometimes only after over 24 hours). I tried removing and reinserting the MS into the clie as well, of course.
So, thanks for bothering to read about my trouble if you did. Has anyone experienced similar problems?
Thanks in advance for any help.

You didn't say what OS your using. In Windows XP there is an option to limit the amount of bytes that can be transfered, highly unlikely, but it's there in my computer, hard drive properties. I can copy all of my 128mb MS with no problem. Is your desktop running low on system resources? Easy to do these days with all the threads that run with added apps. I ran into a problem when I upped my RAM to one gigabyte, when I put it back to 512mb, everything was fine again.
Removing your MS while connected can easily trash the MS, even if it looks like data isn't moving.
Have you applied the latest Sony patch to your desktop PC?

I have this problem too! Has anyone else had this problem? It hink it is fairly common... Using a Lexar 128MB mem stick.

Don't know, have not experienced it. One way to narrow it down is by process of elimination. Trying different memory sticks, cradles, desktop PC, and so on to pin point exactly where the malady exists.

I ran into a similar problem in which my computer would actually lock up when during an msimport. I stumbled upon a solution to this while on the phone with Sony tech support. They wanted me to remove the CLIE MS SCSI driver and the MS Export seperately rebooting each time. I accidentally deleted them both then rebooted once, reinstalled, rebooted and it worked great!
Try this and let me know.

Do these forum work? I posted here and there and no response...sigh.
MSimport was working at one time.
During the use and installing other program, I ended up reloading again. I can't get the msimport to work. My computer cannot find the driver for Sony Peg Mass Storage. Oh, I installed a 6 in one reader hardward. Is this causing a problem.
Any suggestions?

Did you do what kdn102's post suggested? It's possible that the new reader could cause you grief. I had it with a Zip250 USB drive, I had to uninstall the Active Sync software to get my stuff to work. Have your Sony CD available for reinstall. Something has corrupted your Sony USB drivers. This seems to be common with Win XP and Win 2K.

I'm having the same problem: I can't copy large amounts of files from to/from my 64 or 128Mb Memory Sticks.
I have both used MS Import and a Sandisk 6-in-1 USB 2.0 Card Reader - same results.
I even tried the Card Reader in 3 different PCs (an Athlon 1GHz WinXP with both USB 1.1 and 2.0, a Pentium II WinXP with only USB 1.1 and a Pentium 4 Win2k SP4 with only USB 2.0)... guess what? same problem!
Do anyone knows about a Mass Storage Driver os BIOS settings or something that better handle the file transfer without dying in the middle of the process?

I ran into copying issues when I installed the software for my Fuji digital camera (it had it's own USB storage driver). I uninstalled MS Export and re-installed, rebooting after each step of the process, and it's been working fine.
The only problem now is when I activate MS Import, the camera picture viewer also loads up (which is kinda handy anyways, because it's a decent picture viewer for my Memory Stick).

Similar problem here.
When I use windows and copy about 100 megs of mp3s to my nx80 it locks up randomly during the transfer.
When I use msexport it works everytime. I have sony 512 memory stick pro

There is a problem with the SanDisk 6 in 1 USB2 reader, if you use any cards besides SanDisk. Yes they have acknowledged the issue, but not issued a fix, nor will they! Now, I don't know if that would carry over to the memory stick or not. I uninstalled mine, but never had trouble since I used SanDisk media, CF & MS. This was discovered during the beta testing phase of the EruWare CF driver!
