Ok, so my dad just gave me a m505 because he got a tungsten t. I had a m100 but was not so into pda´s since the m100 is kind of, well, archaic.
Now that I have this one, I´m hooked! I go on for hours searching for new apps and stuff... just to realize that the "cooler" and mainstream pda´s are os5 and hi res.
Now I´m actually considering to upgrade, but I want to get it right. I don´t have a lot of money so my two choices are either a zire 71 or a TG50. I´m in college and use my current pda for homework tracking, etc., but if I got a new one, I also want to have fun with it and not just use it for strictly one thing.
The main pro I can think of the Zire is the built-in camera, but the fact that the os can´t be upgraded is a BIG con...
So, bottom line, what should I get??

Greetings!
I don't know if this makes a difference to you or not, but the OS on the TG50 probably can't be upgraded either.
Good luck in your decision!

I too am a college student, and I've had a Zire 71 in the past, which I later replaced with the tg-50. I replaced it because the tg-50 has a very high build quality with the integrated flip cover, and its faster then the Zire 71 too. Plus, mp3 player implementation is superior.. But that's just my opinion. In the end, it all comes down to how much you need an integrated camera, and what you want in general. Either choice is a good one, but if you get the Zire 71, make sure you get a better case then the one it comes with, because it WILL BREAK EVEN IN YOUR FRONT POCKET without protection.

Even though its theorically possible for Sony to offer upgrades to it's OS 5 Clies(except the newer TG50s), they most probably won't... the last upgrade offer was way back for the N710 from OS3.5 to OS 4.1...
If you are hoping for an OS upgrade, go for the Tungsten T or T2? The chances of Palm offering an upgrade is way higher than Sony. You probably can't get a T2 with a Zire level budget, but I think a T/T should be within budget.....only problem would be the lousy screen and multi media function of the T/T...
if I were you, I would consider a refurb NX70 at your budget level..

Hey!
I'm in the exact same place you are. Going to uni next year, want to upgrade to an OS5 device. I looked at the zire and the TT and the TG, i'm going to try and get an nx70 second hand or buy a TG.

Hi,
I am a college student too, and I would highly recommend the NX series, I have the NX60 but if u are looking for a camera go for the NX70 :)
By the way, The cameras quality is not that much, it's useful for snap shots not real pictures (thats what I heard!!), If you are really hooked up with the idea of a cam, get urself a Digi Cam :)
Cheers,
I agree with the above posters, if you can find an NX70 for about the same price as the others in your budget, go for it. Otherwise I'd choose the TG50 because it has the better Sony multimedia stuff, and if you ever think you'll use Bluetooth (like to send stuff to your dad's T|T) you'll have that as well. Unless you really hate keyboards, of course.

Hey, thanks for the posting!
Say, were can I get a refurbished NX70? (I´m starting to like the idea). Do you think I could eventually upgrade to OS 6? Only problem is I don´t want to buy on line, though.

Well I've owned a Zire 71 in the past and I have to say I was pretty impressed. With Palms new transflective screen the Zire's screen is a thing of beauty, something I can't say about the TG-50. The TG-50's screen isn't the best. At the bottom of the screen there are some wavy lines that really annoy me. Most people say that they forget their there but it just ins't possible for me. So if you think you can live witht the screen and don't need a built-in digital camera, then I would recommend the TG-50. I feel in that in all other aspects this PDA is a much better choice.

yet another undecisive buyer...
indecisive. I recommend Wordsmith with spellchecker. It'll tell you there is no such word as "undecisive". ;)

If you can stand it, it might be worth your while to wait a couple months. If the T3 is released (that's Tungsten 3), it would be the one I would get . . .
Just my nickel's worth.
