Hi!

I've been looking seriously at the UX50 after hearing of a bunch of defects in the Tungsten C. This unit does so much more than the C and is only a little more expensive for me, considering I need bluetooth as well as WiFi and was gonna get the bluetooth SD card as well.

One thing that's important to me, though, and one thing I've never seen properly tackled in any review of the system - is the keyboard\thumbboard any good? How does it compare to something like the Tungsten C\W? I thought those were quite nice if not a bit too cramped - and if the UX50 happened to better it, I'd be very much interested in the unit indeed.

Can anyone with experience using this Clie offer any opinions on how good the keyboard works? I'd love to be able to use it for light IMing and email-writing - is it adequate or painful?

Thanks a lot.

you can not use bluetooth sd on tc because there is no bt sd driver for os5.........

Yeah, I know. :P But there'll be one in a month or three.

Those who have used the UX say that the spacebar is the only problem because they can't hit it easily with the side of the thumb (due to the wavy aspect of the keyboard). Otherwise, it reportedly has decent tactile feedback and the keys are easy to press unlike the TG.

I, too, would like to hear someone compare it to a Tungsten C. I've kicked myself several times for not waiting for it and buying the TG instead.

I actually thought every review that I've read all mentioned how the keyboard is very nice.

Anyway, the keyboard does fantastic job for me. It's very typeable, and I can type faster than the TC that i tried in electronic stores. One thing makes it obviously superior than the TC's is UX's key size. It's bigger and easier to locate than TC's. It's very adaptable (i'm comparing experience with when I first used my UX and when I first tried TC in store).

Overall i think the UX's keyboard is better than any of the keyboard device on the market, but i wouldn't think it's something that you would want to type school notes with since some of the symbols requires pressing a particular key to trigger (same as any other keyboard device). I do however, type my web blog draft on it tho.

A note about the space bar, I dont' seem to have any problem with pressing space bar since it's reachable by both of my thumbs. For example, if i type the word "GUI" while pressing "I" with my right thumb, my left thumb is already positioned on the space bar, vice versa for the other side of the keyboard. Basically if one want to simulate the use of UX hardware, try gameboy advance!
