View Full Version : Rationalizing Colour...

So I went to Best Buy today determined to buy a PDA (the SJ20)....Right now it's $189.99. I would get the unit, some protective covers, the 2-year service plan and a 128 meg memory stick. All told this would cost me ~$400 CAN.
My problem is that I kept on getting drawn to the SJ22 for the colour screen. Even though the B/W screen of the SJ20 looks great, any colour screen seems to put it too shame. The SJ22 is $249.99 right now.
My question - Is the extra $60 worth it for the SJ22 over the SJ20? Is the SJ22 essentially the same unit, just lacking some software (which I do not really need) and being colour? The unit itself would mainly be used for storing medical information, directives, etc...a few games, I am not a power user.
Money is not really an issue, but I definately can't rationalize spending $350+ for MP3 use ala SJ33 or Zire 71.
Would you recomend the SJ22 as a solid unit for the average user and worth the money over the SJ20?
Thanks.

I think you should go with the SJ-22. I made the mistake of buying an SL-10 (which has a grayscale screen) and after awhile it got dark and had very low contrast. I've had my SJ-22 for about 4 months now and I love it.

Color is worth the dough, trust me. I had a Vx and moved to a TG50. It's a dream!

I went from a visor platinum to the SJ-22 a few months ago, and wish I had switched to color long ago. I use mine for basically the same things you will, and I think the color screen is much easier on the eyes - not to mention making games way better. I too recommend going with the color screen.

Well if your going tobe using it medical texts etc. Go with the SJ20 it saves battery life and its not worth the mula for color for your purposes:cool:

I'd go with the SJ-22 personally. While color may not seem important now, you will come to appreciate it, as it makes using the Clie a much more pleasant experience, even for routine day-to-day tasks. I've found the color Hi res screens to be much easier on the eyes and afer a while, you learn to use the color effectively, especially if you purchase a good aftermarket datebook and/or launcher.

Personally if its 249.99 i would rather get a OS5 device like TG50. Ive seen a few deals for 249.99 for a TG50. Its does all of SJ22 and more! :)

Color is definitely worth it. Before I got my NX70V, I started out with an SJ20 and then upgraded to an SJ30 a week later. What a world of difference!

Absolutely go color.
It's a completely different world, and one we live in anyway.
Treat yourself well.

I believe that's $249 CAN for the SJ-22, which is about US $170 or so.........

I too initially was going to purchase the SL-10.
Then, upon seeing the SJ-22 on display, I immediately changed my mind and haven't looked back. I am very glad I decided to get the colour model because I am getting way more enjoyment out of the colour model.
Mainly, everything just looks and feel natural in colour (since most everything I do on the computer is in colour these day). I can highlight text and notes in yellow and various other colours in WordPro. DayNotez (my journal) is colour coded as well by personal, work, etc. And also, I keep colour photos on there just for the heck of it, but find that I do view them every now and then during idle momentst at work.

I went from a S300 to an SJ30. Then I bought/exchanged for newer devices. I could NEVER go back to B&W. Glad you're joining the club. :)

Don't buy screen protectors (ie Fellowes WriteRights) at Best Buy though. You will pretty much ruin your opinion of your new screen with them.
Order from Boxwave or Brando.
