converting mpeg through image converter is so much better than kinoma, but i can't get sound. I tried flask and tmpgenc to mplex video/audio, what codec does sound have to be in to work? Is this possible?

All my mpegs work fine and w/ sound, you shouldnt have to convert it, image converter does all the work for you

I don't know why but I was able to view a converted 57MB Simpsons episode, but the sound was not playing either. I converted it using Image Converter, and tried to voew using MoviePlayer. Anyone have help?

I remember once reading another thread that Kinoma is better. Does anyone know if it can play MPEGs without converting? If so, how do I get the MPEG into the MS--using MS Export?

I won't deal with the play-MPEG-directly-problem now.
About your conversion problem: Your MPEG file is probably just a renamed AVI file. That's the problem in 9/10 cases.
To find out start Mediaplayer6 (Start/Run/ mplayer2.exe ), open your MPEG file, go to File/Properties/Advanced. Look for MPEG Audio Decoder & MPEG Video Decoder. If you've got both, then it's a rela MPEG with Audio!

Try looking at this post to solve your MPEG1 woes. http://www.cliesource.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=18262

For IC issues the file is probably a DIVX  file or worse yet FFDshow or XVID. You can use the above link to learn how to convert the file to the proper format for an IC conversion.

Thanx. Is there any specific reason you realize this just now? =)

Hans, thanks for the info. I have on one of the files an "MPEG Layer 3 Decoder". Is that the same thing Im looking for?

If I do indeed find other files that are "real" MPEGs with audio, does that mean I can view them in MoviePlayer? Do I do that with MS Export?
