It has been found to work successfully on the NX's. You might want to register and ask around the forums, you might get it. And I really like it.

It is a good program. I like it and use it rather than grafiti. It work on my NX70, so it should work on your NX60. I don't think you can get it here, unles you are lucky to see a URL link that work.

It's called Decuma Latin v3.0 for the English version.

http://www.decuma.com/pages/products/latin_recognition.html

The Mods of CS will remove any Decuma DL links!

Certain unscrupulous individuals have been known to take a MS with a file manager app on it to a store's display unit and copy certain files onto their stick.

DISCLAIMER: I'm not condoning the practice or inferring that I would personally do such a thing, just FYI. It just goes to show the steps that people will take to get something for nothing.

I have it, its ok, but I only use it when I let someone who doesn't know G1 use my clie.

I still like using the G1 on my NX 60 but often during the day in meetings I switch to Decuma as it is nice to see the word in the same space you are writing on. It does take some time to get the writing to be as efficient as the G1 is. I think if I took time to customize the strokes it could be better, I think that the G1 is more forgiving than the default Decuma is.

Downside is you cannot use shortcuts...who does not use those?

Hey can you use shortcuts with G2? Anybody?

I customized Decuma (had to do some tricks on the install including a hard reset and reload from MS) on my NX60 and it works excellent. It's much faster for me and more natural. Plus my normal handwriting has reverted back to something that looks like english instead of some cursive graffiti hybrid :D

You shouldn't had to do a hard reset if the Decuma files were copied from the MS. If they were HotSync'd, then that's a different story.

Over time we learn what to do and not to do:)

I only pointed this out, so others don't make the same mistake.

I have it on my NX 60 ...
I was a good girl and followed n2ifp's instructions of not Hot Syncing it, Insted had it on the MS then to the RAM..

It works nicely... But I am starting to miss Graffiti :(

Graffiti is still on there. Just chose the Graffiti silk from the statusbar.

All you need to do to switch is:

swipe your stylus from the tool bar on the bottom up to the home key and you will toggle between the silk you are running and the previous one.

One thing about Decuma that still does not have my vote is that it does not recognize Textplus (or WordComplete) on the fly. I would have to write and enter each letter for Textplus to engage word choices, kind of defeats the purpose.

Personally, I never could get used to decuma.  I tried several times.  It's too slow for me.

Long live graffiti!

You can use short cuts with Decuma, swipe from the bottom tool bar diagonally from left to right. Switch from right to left to switch from Decuma to G1.

I stopped using it mostly because of things like that -- when you're searching your address book and want to input the first few letters until the contact you need shows up, you have to either just write the whole name or tap the arrow after each letter. Unless you're writing paragraphs of text, I find graffiti much faster.

Never tried it. I think I'm pretty quick w/G1. Am I missing anything?

Very fancy when look at it. Not very practical when you use it yet. But very promising, since its the first implementation of a totaly new way for text input in Palm OS.

PDA News 24 has a complete review of it at http://www.clieuk.co.uk/decrev.shtml and an interview of their Cheif Marketing Officer at http://www.clieuk.co.uk/decint.htm. Pretty good reading, if you ask me... :D

You know why I like it?
1. I'm not that fast any ways so the speed is no problem
2. I prefer writing on top of a character to replace it rather than using a back stroke
3. The area where u write gets scratched with time, but with decuma there is much more are to write on so it tends to last longer.

Nice article.  Almost makes me want to try decuma again!  But I won't, twice installed and twice deleted is enough!  I guess old habits die hard.  I'm sure I'll eventually be forced to use decuma (as I was forced to leave beloved DOS behind for windoze), but until then, I'm sticking with G1.  I know it, I like it, I'm fast with it.

One of the reason I get NX80.

r0b456
08-26-2003, 05:41 PM
The methods of input that I use, by order of Frequency:

1.) Hardware QWERTY Keyboard
Like someone else in this thread said, one of the main reasons to buy the NX model Clie's. Used whenever I plan on doing a good deal of text entry.

2.) Decuma
I like it. I normally write in Print, so my handwriting is recognized by Decuma spot-on probably 99% of the time. Plus, it can be customized to the way you write letters. I still need to learn various shortcuts, etc. But mostly, I use it and it works.

3.) Graffiti 2 - On screen keyboard
I don't like Graffiti. I'm not an Old School fan. I used Palms a long time ago, and I really didn't like Graffiti then. I avoided entering text into my PDA when I could -- waiting until I could create that contact or calendar entry on the PC and then sync it to the handheld. I later moved to Pocket PC and had been using on screen keyboards and hand writing recognition software. I use the on screen keyboard on my NX80V when I have the unit in tablet mode and am entering quick entries (just a few words or characters).

Any chinese Decuma available?

Deaton
08-27-2003, 08:14 AM
It's available for Chinese, Japanese, and Latin characters but, with the exception of Japanese (available through Sony Japan), is only available in new Clie PDAs.

The only version available for purchase without buying a Clie along with it is the Japanese version from Sony in Japan. Sorry...

Or you can just ask people here to "lend" it to you :D

No URL's allowed on ClieSource for Decuma, both Decuma and Sony are watching. Both also complained about it being distributed on ClieSource. BTW, I do NOT have the Chinese version.

So who will have the chinese decuma? I got the decuma in my NX80 but it is in english version only.
Deaton had mentioned there is chinese version, If it is true, why decuma never give it to us? Yet they still got the cheek to complain, I will complained them as a NX80 customer as well.

If they want to imprement a new software to new device, they must make sure it is support worldwide. At least they should let install thru the NX80 CD.

Sorry that I really 'heatup' with the decuma developer or Sony for giving me to be feel like being cheated if someone have the chinese version and yet not everyone.

I imagine the Chinese Decuma is only available on the new units sold in the Chinese market. Where did you purchase yours?
