My gosh, the new UX looks so attractive! I'm torn whether to return my nx80 and get the UX when it comes out, or just keep the nx80. The thing I like about the nx80 is the 1 mega pixel camera. But the thing I like about the UX is the wireless and the landscape view.

I have the NX73V and the one thing I'd really miss if I switched would be the CF slot

I don't know if I'll switch. As of right now, the UX's screen isn't rubbing me the right way...

I actually just purchased my NX80V, rather than wait for the UX50. Basically, all of my reasons for doing so are Personal. I have nothing against the UX50.

Mostly, I was concerned that it was too new for it to be truly usefull. Whether I purchased the NX80 or the UX50, I would be replacing a perfectly capable iPAQ that in all reality did everything I needed. I wanted a device that would be able to at Least do everything my iPAQ did. I did not want to have to wait for applications and accessories to become available for several months simply to get the funcationality I already have.

Also, related to the device being New, I am skeptical about the devices abilities relative to it's Price. While the screen is still high res (Wide Res), it is incredibly small. I know that you cannot have a tiny device and a big screen at the same time. But there is a lot of unused edging around that screen. Also, there is a lot of debate about the Memory on the unit. Mostly, I felt that the UX has potential, but the screen and RAM have a serious possibility of becoming larger in subsequent models in the series. Not only this, but right now people are going to be paying a premium for this device because it is new and because it is unique. It is simply a general rule of technology -- within a short time there will be devices like the UX50, but with bettery specs at a lower price.

Now, you can take that too far -- I could say I'm never going to upgrade my PDA because if I do, something better will come out soon. But mostly, while the UX50 looks radically different at first, there is really nothing it can do that current NX devices do not already do -- except landscape view. Once the buzz wears off, the UX is still more evolution than revolution.

I really don't see myself upgrading until Palm OS 6 or the next Pocket PC OS becomes available, and either of them offers things that are not currently possible on a handheld.

While I am not buying the UX50, I hope lots of people do. I hope it succeeds well beyond everyone's expectations. I hope hardware manufacturers for both Palm and Pocket PC see that people want devices like the UX50 and they start crackin. I really, really, really want a PDA with NATIVE landscape orientation. I just don't want the First PDA with landscape orientation.

i am switching, because i like the built-in wifi and bt. i have an NX80 and the cf wifi card, but i find myself not using the wifi a lot, because i need to keep remembering to bring my wifi card with me and sometimes i need to check email and dont have the card with me. i think that since the UX is geared more towards communications, it will fit my needs a lot better than the NX series does. also, if it's really as small as it looks in pictures, i will also like that a lot more too. i am not saying that the NX80 is a brick, i am just saying that for me, the smaller the better, without sacrificing too much on the features and screen size. The UX looks to balance both well, for me.

I TOTALLY agree. You hit the nail on the head.

It took 3 or 4 models of the NX series to get it right and put all the nice additions onto it that we have all been asking for. The UX screen it strange too, I don't like the way the Grafitti area comes up sideways (on the right side of the screen) when you open an app. PDA's are ment to be portrite not landscape. That's only good for spread sheets and maybe web browsing.

Wait till you see what kind of battery life you get from the UX with all that WiFi and BT running even a little each day. I don't think SONY's stamina battery will handle that load of power when turing on and off and surfing and sending e-mail. That is probably why they are pushing to the new (soon to be) owners to get the extra battery pack for another hundred bucks. Plus it will add to the size and BULK of the small little wonder, oh yeah and then there is the case issue that new case they give for free will not hold the battery and the unit.

I am waiting for the UX 55 or 60 or 70 or... :D

Well, I for one, salute Rob on his trailblazing ways since I'm buying his NX80 and WiFi card...

For me, the decision to stick with the NX and pass on the UX has less to do with it's "newness" and smaller screen-size, and more to do with being able to have a full-size keyboard and maintain portrait orientation. Sure, once the UX is released here we won't be seeing many applications that take advantage of landscape, but that will change shortly. I'm still using my NR70V, which was purchased almost the day they came out. Did I suffer for a lack of hi-res+ applications? No. I had the newest machine on the block, which was enough to make the gadget freak in me happy, and the applications came out soon enough. So will it be with the UX, I imagine.

I think many of us will be casting a jealous eye over at the UX forums in the near future, as soon as developers start modifying their apps...

I'm switching too. I love the landscape screen and builtin WiFi!

I'm not tempted to switch... one because of photo capture size, the size of the unit, and as mentioned, the battery life... and two, because i dont need a better PDA!

I spent a good few hours in a shop in Japan playing with both NX and UX before deciding on the NX. Firstly the smaller screen of the UX was a negative, which also seems to be not as bright as the NX's, despite adjustments I made.

The NX is a true "palm device", it fits comfortably in my hand. The UX which is 30% wider isn't as comfortable to hold in one hand, you keep feeling you're going to lose your grip.

Coming from a Psion 5 with a huge landscape screen, I don't feel bothered about the portrait NX screen at all.

Now that I've had the NX for a while, I also think that the UX cradle isn't as comfortable for desktop operation than the UX, which is flatter meaning that the screen may not be as visible.

The major plus points of the UX is the built-in wifi and BT, but as others mentioned battery life is still a moot point. The keyboard is also much better than the NX.

An NX with BT, wireless and an improved keyboard (there's space after all) will be a true winner!

I am tempted to change, mostly because the integrated WIFI, but i really love the resolution of the camera in the NX 80

The battery life on the UX cannot be worse than the NZ90! I had an NZ90 before switching to the NX80. The reason I am switching is I love the built-in wifi.

I wouldn't choose until I held an actual UX in my hands at the store. Though I don't own an NX today, I used to have the NX60, and a plus side of the NX that few people mention is the comfort of reading the NX in clamshell mode while reclining back. Having the extra real estate on the bottom of the keyboard lets you prop the NX up on your stomach or chest for comfortable reading. When I switched from an NX60 to a TG50, I missed this feature ergonomic difference, but I went for the smaller formfactor which has its own ergonomic advantages!

So though I'll probably stay with the TG, if I had to choose between an NX and a UX, I would check the ergnomics for reading and inputting when sitting, standing, lying back, etc. and make my choice from there.

And of course, you can't do that until you test both! I love seeing how impatient others are here to see the UX, even if they don't necessarily plan on buying it. I'm not alone!
