I notice that the most critical posts towards the UX have been from NX and TG owners. Is there a pattern? :)

Not from this TG and NX owner!

I look forward to getting my hands on the UX.

As long as the small screen doesn't totally turn me off, I'm gonna buy one for sure. I might wait for the 3-4 month price drop, though.

Sounds goods. I can wait for a price drop also, then all the pros and cons should be well known at that time.

I've been waiting TOOOOOOOOOOO long to replace my aging Prism. With its dieing battery, a replacement is definitely needed and SOON.

The UX hasn't won out right just yet, but at least it passed the Wife Veto test... :)

The wife's veto, I also fear that.

Get your UX50 and enjoy every minute of it. NZ90 owners have put up with this kind of thing for a long time, but it hasn't lessened my enjoyment of my NZ the slightest bit :)

I'll own the UX 50 but only when it comes out with OS 6. I've never minded spending money on my toys.... in my mind, that's what MY money is for! What grinds me the wrong way, though, is underwriting some large corporations R&D efforts as they hold back products they have in waiting.... screw 'em folks! I've enjoyed the NX 70 a lot and will, no doubt, enjoy the UX 50 (or 60) as much or more..... but only after they've come clean and given me a product WORTHY of my money. Heck.... we can only be the beta testers if we allow ourselves to be......and why PAY for that?

I've been hearing about What's New and what's on the horizon for years. Some of the stuff I saw in Popular Science 10 and 20 years ago STILL hasn't reached the mainstream market.

If I waited for the manufacturers to develop and perfect every product like YOU are asking, my current handheld would NOT hold addresses, and probably be something more like a Radio Shack Pocket Computer with a wopping 4K of memory programable in BASIC! (Think 20 years out of date...)

WE can't wait FOREVER!!!

OS 6 may have some bells and whistles SOME of us will need - but not all of us. I'll take 5.2 and be glad. Since I'm currently on OS 3.5h this is almost 2 full version levels UP for me! It will give me LOTS I've not had before. I can worry about OS levels again in 2 or 3 years...

I have to fear the parent's veto, "Is it really worth $700," "What are you going to do with it," "Why do you need a new one?! The one you have works fine"

I am a proponet of the UX, not a nay-sayer... :)

Some warn not to buy the first version of the UX series, since version allways contain some lacks. But the next version of the UX will have the first OS6 version, which will obviously lack something else too.
So, buy what you need! (And think about that first)

I've heard that one before --- which is fine as long as I don't consider ever-degrading battery life and OS incompatibilities.

I'd love to have HALF the battery life I've heard of on the UX...

OK, I'll admit it. I'm an NX owner, and Yes, I've ragged on the UX. :p

But for $700 Sony has got to offer me a REALLY good reason to upgrade. The UX is still not it.

Had it offered

1) More REAL RAM, (like the Tungsten-c 64 MB)

2) A better Camera (Like the NX-80, 1.3 MP)

3) A Option to use Portrait mode.

4) A Cheaper Price. (Maybe $599, which was the original price of my NX)

5) Guranteed upgradibilty to OS-6.

I would be All over the UX.

As such, I will wait to see what Sony has to offer when OS-6 comes out.

The UX series is not an upgrade to the NX series, something to keep in mind.

The only thing that scares me about the UX is OS4 emulation, I hope that it's not a big step back from my NR. I figured that SONY's latest offering would have been a guaranteed step forward since the previous OS5 devices were still slightly slower when emulating it.

I would like to see an OS6 device, but like with OS5 I avoided it until more applications were availble and that time has come. So I figure that when I buy my next PDA, OS6 apps will be comon place and the hardware will be available to handle it.

If my current PDA were a TG, NX, or NZ, I certainly would not consider buying a UX since they are great PDAs and are still current. But for me a NR owner, the UX is the first PDA from SONY that made me go WOW. :) I just wish the remote were offered. :( But the fact that I'll be able to use a non SONY music app with full support for other formats like OGG and MP3 will make very happy. :)

If the movie playback is as good as they say, then 1 GB of Ren&Stimpy will be a good road companion.

I wish my NX could have Audible support. *sigh*

Sony Sony Sony . . . ~shakes head~ what am I gonna do . . .

I don't think I've bashed the NX myself . . . I can't remember. :D

Is this audible support another sound API or something?

I do not know these things, please forgive my ignorance.

I just saw the UX on Fresh Gear and wife likes it just as much as it do. :D

I never recall names, I just like to look at the PDAs owned from the more critical posts. :D When the NX came out, it was mostly us NR owners making the comments. :p

Well, I've never bashed the UX myself, and up until recently, was all set to buy one. Like Jack, I'm an NR user, and frankly, nothing Sony's come out with since then has given me a real reason to upgrade. But, when I saw the first pics of the UX, again, like Jack, I said, "wow!"

Still, $700 is a lot of money, I don't need Bluetooth, a nicer camera would've been nice (yes, I know, 1.3mp would've been too big for the chassis), and I'd miss larger screen, the universal remote functions, and the control wand for the mp3 player on my NR... Also, I'm sort of used to portrait mode, and the UX's current inability to display information in anything other than landscape is irritating to me.

So, when a fellow Cliesource member put his NX80/WL100 combo up for sale, I figured this was God's way of telling me to save some cash, and stick with a known quantity. The hardware is sound, the software is available, the accesories are out...

This should tide me over until OS6...

-Adam

PS - I'm still gonna turn green with envy the first time I spy someone using a UX-50 at Starbuck's, though.
