I was messing with a Ipaq at work the other day and I like the transcriber feature.
Is there anything like that I can get for my NX?

There are a few programs that let you write anywhere on the screen (Jot for example) but I don't know of any that will 'transcribe' full words...anyone out there know of one?

The Transcriber program definitely is one of the best things about my Compaq IPAQ. I too would be interested in someone producing a similar piece of software for the Palm OS.

Do a search on Palm Gear for Teal Script.

Tealscript is not the transcriber function.
The transcriber function is a handwriting recognition utility.
You write a word and the iPaq or whatever interprets that word, like the newtons only it actually works pretty well.
I got about 75%-80% accuracy with no training when I was playing with one for a couple of hours.

the one thing I like better about PPCs is their version of graffiti input. It just seems so natural and intuitive. I like that fact that there is a seperate category for capital as well as lower cased letters. I hate having to stroke "up" in graffiti to capitalize a letter.

transcriber was hitch number one I had when trying to decide between a PPC and a CLIE. transcriber is the kryptonite to my CLIE.

Tealscript lets you tell the Clie what to recognize-you can even make multiple ways to recognize each letter.

I'd love to see a transcriber program developed for PalmOS. I obviously don't know of any... Seems like it would have to be OS5 only though. The hit on a Dragonball chip would be pretty big.

AFAIK Paragon Software is working (http://www.penreader.com/technologies/Handwriting.html) over porting their Pen Reader recognition program to Palm OS 5 . It is not so powerful as Transcriber (it can't recognize cursive writing), but anyway you can write words as a whole, not letter-by-letter, and in any place on screen. Besides, it can boast multy-language support, including cyrillic etc

I'm not sure why anyone wants handwriting recognition. Do you know anybody that can write nearly as fast as they can type? I don't. Unless they can't type at all, in which case they probably aren't tech heads using these fun techno toys.
I use MessageEase by Exideas.com. It is a way to type on Palm OS devices. I can easily get 40-50 words per minute. If I really try I'm sure I could get 60. Since I bought Message Ease, an external keyboard has become a nicety instead of a necessity. I couldn't even imagine using standard Graffiti ever again...
Just my two cents...
