View Full Version : T615 Stylus Sliding out?

I recently gave my Wife my old T615. Now all of a sudden the stylus won't stay in the slot without sliding out. I can't figure out the problem. The stylus stays in my T665 so I know it's not a problem with the stylus itself.
I used this T615 for about a year without a problem and can't figure out what's changed. My Wife hasn't even taken the Clie out of the house yet so it's too soon to blame her...
Any suggestions?

So how do you keep from losing it? I know she's going to lose it in a matter of weeks (if not days) if I can't fix the problem.

Had the same problem. Put some clear nailpolish on the ends of the white top, to either side of the 'ridged' edge. Let it dry hard ... several hours. Should solve the problem
The top as in the pointy top? Or the top where the reset pin is?

Thanks for the idea! I'll have to ask my Wife where she keeps the nailpolish...:D

Most Clie enthusiasts use a third-party stylus, simply because it looks and performs better. I recommend that you try out an Innopocket or PDA Panache stylus for the T-series. They fit tightly (unlike the original which loosens with time) and look outstanding.

To be quite honest I really don't want to buy a replacement stylus if I can help it. After all, to me it's just a stylus. I just bought a case for my Wife's T-615 and I'm thinking of buying a case for my T-665. I also my end up purchasing an additional 128Mb Memory Stick. Enough is enough...I only paid $269 for the T-665. I don't want to increase that by almost 50% for accessories if I can help it.

Well, I got tired of waiting for my Wife to come home to show me where some clear nail polish was. I had some brush-on Crazy Glue here so I tried that instead.
Everything works great now! The stylus isn't falling out any more.
Thanks for the suggestions, everyone!

I tried the clear nailpolish on a couple styli but didn't seem to help. Did you coat the little plastic reset part that unthreads from the metal stick? Maybe I didn't put enough coats on. How many did you apply? Thanks. This will help alot of us whose stylus have become loose. Mary

On the top of the stylus there are 4 little "pins"...I just brushed on a bit of Crazy Glue on either side of that and let it dry.
So far it seems to be working fine.
Hope this helps...

Reason for this is that the stylus is retained internally by a little plastic 'finger' with a small nub on it. The finger acts like a spring to press the nub against the groove near the stylus tip.
The 'finger' breaks off relatively easily- it is quite thin.
You CAN open the Clie up and get to this with a little fiddling, then repair it. I used a tiny bit of black tape, then put some very thin foam padding (like molefoam blister pads) 'behind' the finger to allow it to press against the stylus properly. It took some fiddling to get the right combination of thickness and positioning to make it work, but it did!
Most replacement styli depend on the same groove and 'nub' to hold the styli, but the various ideas for thickening the shaft a bit will work also!

I had same problem on my "old" 770, solved by putting a small o'ring taken from a plastic cigarette lighter (I' m Italian, don' t know how to call it exactly, but I' m sure you'll understand).Squeezing it you' ll be able to gain a small protuberance that will draw tight to the sleeve.

Thanks PCMaven -
The superglue idea works like a charm. We're back in business with a tightfitting stylus without taking the Clie apart. It did take me a few applications because I didn't have the brushon glue -just the liquid. Great help! Thanks. Mary

So... now that I have used superglue on my stylus, it is indeed staying in. Now I can't figure how to get it back out. It seems pretty strongly held in now.

I avoided the superglue/nail polish on the stylus and opted to open up the CLIE. The little plastic finger to hold onto the stylus was promptly (and accidentally) snapped off by me.
I used duct tape (it had the thickness and "foami-ness") to secure the stylus in place.
Initially, it was a bit tight, but as the duct tape flattened out, it was a nice tight fit and didn't rattle or slip.
Oh yeah - opening up the CLIE is not as terrifying as a thought. Once the screws are off, the back shell comes off and the stylus tubing is very accessible. So you don't need to tamper with the other sections of the CLIE.
