I am a devoted gadget junkie.... Casio in the early 90's. PalmPilot and PalmIII. Three years ago, I became a devoted PPC fan after landing a HP Jornada 540/560 series. Moved on to Audiovox Maestro, Genio e550G and now my beloved Toshiba 755. I vowed never to return to the palm OS platform but will have to break the promise. I have become obsessed with the idea of obtaining a UX 50. My only concern is battery life. I use my PDA daily for approx. 2 hrs per day -- text references for work and routine PDA activities. What is a realistic battery expectation?

I've seen anywhere from 4.5 to 7.5 posted. Giving them a little leeway , depending upon the backlight settings and wireless usage, I'm hoping we can get at least 3 to 6 hrs a day. LONGER if the screen isn't running for ever. So I'd say you're safe to get buy, but you might find yourself recharging daily...

I'm still watching for some hands on reviews that give some real stats myself. With the alternate battery pack as an alternative /additive power source - I'm not that concerned. Its a definate bonus to have that capacity. How many other PDAs have secondary batteries like that?

the iPaqs have their battery sleeves, but adds additional bulk and significantly 'uglifies' their PDAs..

The battery life is at least longer than PPC....

Oh yeah, a lot longer. The NX80 is advertied at 14 days, now the UX is advertised at 16 days, using it 30 minutes a day.

My PPC dies after about 4 hours of use if that. The worst part, is that it uses a backup battery that's not rechargeable.

I think we will be pleasently suprised at the battery life of the UX50. I look at the NZ, which actually way outperforms peoples estimates, and the reports on the NX80 which have been incredibly, almost amazingly, positive. Although with the UX50, more than any other PDA, with the adaptive CPU speed, battery life will be an extremely individual thing.
